There's another Thursday night showdown featuring the battle of two NFC West divisional rival teams. Tonight, the Los Angeles Rams (3-1, 2-0 home) will host the San Francisco 49ers (3-1, 2-0 away) at SoFi Stadium.
Highlighting two California teams, the Rams are off to a blazing start to the season with victories over the Houston Texans, Tennessee Titans, and Indianapolis Colts. Considered one of the top teams on both sides of the ball, the offense has been potent between Matt Stafford and Puka Nacua.
While Nacua is arguably the top wide receiver in the NFL, it was Tutu Atwell who connected with Stafford for a 88-yard touchdown past week. Earning a comeback victory, it was the Rams who capitalized off Adonai Mitchell's fumble right in front of the end zone.
In the matchup, Stafford threw for three passing touchdowns and 375 yards, while Nacua recorded a career-high 170 receiving yards. Under coach Sean McVay, the offense is firing on all cylinders.
3-1 on the season, the 49ers have victories over division rivals Arizona Cardinals and Seattle Seahawks. Last week, they lost to the Jacksonville Jaguars on their home turf, 26-21.
While Jake Tonges scored a 21-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter, it was Jacksonville's Parker Washington that returned a punt return for an 87-yard touchdown. Overall the 49ers couldn't overcome the Jaguars, allowing 26 points on the defensive end.
On the offensive end, Brock Purdy totaled 309 passing yards for two touchdowns, and Christian McCaffrey led the way with 92 receiving yards. Tonight, the 49ers are massive underdogs since they are dealing with several injuries. Not only is Brock Purdy ruled out (toe), the 49ers will be without several members of the receiving core. That includes Jauan Jennings and Ricky Pearsall. Not to mention, George Kittle is placed on the IR, as well as Brandon Aiyuk.
3-0 against the 49ers in their last three head-to-head matchups since 2024. In those matchups, the Rams have covered al all three.
While the 49ers have several players listed on the injury report, the Rams are fairly healthy. Both Rob Havenstein (OT) and Tyler Higbee (TE) are doubtful for tonight, Keir Thomas (LB) and Ahkello Witherspoon (CB) remain on injured reserve.
With both teams making multiple Super Bowl appearance since 2013, they are ranked in the top ten among sportsbooks to win this season. Currently, the Rams have +1300 odds to win the Super Bowl, while the 49ers have +2500 odds to raise the Lombardi trophy. Tonight, the Rams are +7.5-point spread favorites at home.

BEST ODDS FOR SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS VS LOS ANGELES RAMS
2025-2026 Season Stats
GP: 4 | Carries: 69 | Rush Yards: 225 | Rush Avg. 3.3 | Rush TD: 0 | Rush long: 15 |REC: 31 | Targets: 43| Receiving Yards: 305 | Rec Avg. 9.8 | Receiving TD: 2 | Receiving long: 29
My first best bet for today, I placed one unit on San Francisco star running back Christian McCaffrey to record over 54.5 receiving yards today.
Coming back from injury, it's been McCaffrey who's led the 49ers this season. Considered one of the best running backs in the NFL, it's been his receiving capabilities in the backfield that's made the difference.
There's no doubt Brocky Purdy has sustained injuries this season, and is out for tonight's game with a toe injury. Former Patriots and Jaguars quarterback Mac Jones will lead at the helm tonight.
Under head coach Kyle Shanahan, this is a 49ers difference that looks vastly different with the departure of Deebo Samuel. With several injuries, I'm expecting Jones to utilize McCaffrey a fair amount in the backfield. After all, McCaffrey is the 49ers second leading receiver with 305 yards.
Yet to score a rushing touchdowns, we've seen McCaffrey log 73, 52, 88, and 92 receiving yards against the Seahawks, Saints, Cardinals, and Jaguars.
In fact, he's the team's top player in receptions (31) and targets (43). Through four weeks, he has logged more receiving yards (305) than rushing yards (225).
Rushing wise, McCaffrey hasn't been super efficient, failing to top 100 rushing yards. Averaging 3.3 yards per carry, again, he's been far more valuable in the passing game. This make sense given the 49ers run passing plays 63.2 percent of the time.
He has a difficult matchup against the Rams, who rank 11th in defensive DVOA, No. 7 in passing DVOA, and No. 3 in rushing DVOA. Contrary, this is a 49ers team that ranks top 10 in offensive DVOA. We are talking about a Rams team that gives up 11.5 receiving yards to running backs.
Let's face it, the 49ers are without several of their top offensive stars: Purdy, Persall, Jennings, Aiyuk, and Kittle. That's practically the entire receiving core. Sure, the 49ers have receivers in Kendrick Bourne, Demarcus Robinson, and Skyy Moore. However, with injuries, I expect McCaffrey to remain a fixture in tonight's offense.
Mac Jones has been fairly efficient in place of Purdy, putting up 279 and 284 passing yards against New Orleans and Arizona. In both games, McCaffrey was a factor in the receiving game, tallying 56 and 88 receiving yards. With Jones at the helm, he's averaged 8.0 receptions alone.
Overall, I'm confident in this prop given McCaffrey played 91 and 85 percent of snaps over the last two weeks. San Fransisco has backs in Brian Robinson Jr., and sometimes utilize fullback Kyle Juszczyk in the receiving game. However, I don't believe there's much competition for McCaffrey.
2025-2026 Season Stats
GP: 4 | Rec: 42 | Targets: 50 | Receiving yards: 503 | Average: 12.0 | Touchdown: 1 | Long: 31 | First Down: 26
My second best bet for today, I placed one unit on Los Angeles Rams star receiver Puka Nacua to record over 7.5 receptions against the San Francisco 49ers.
Aforementioned, this Rams offense is rolling under Matt Stafford. Let's face it, Nacua IS the Rams offense. Yes, Los Angeles has receivers in Davante Adams, Tutu Atwell, Tyler Higbee, and Jordan Whittington.
Not only does Nacua lead the Rams in receptions (42), targets (50), and receiving yards (503), he leads the others by a mile. In fact, he leads the entire NFL in receptions, yards, 20+ yard receptions, and targets (50).
Stafford may have lost Cooper Kupp to the Seahawks in the offseason, however, Nacua is arguably the top receiver in the NFL through week 5.
Playing 91 and 81 percent of the snaps over the last two weeks, Nacua has put up some monstrous numbers. Last week, he logged a career-high 170 yards against the Colts. In three of four weeks, he's tallied 112+ receiving yards.
With that, the receptions have been high, with Nacua logging 10, 8, 11, add 13 against the Texans, Titans, Eagles, and Colts.
While this player prop is a bit juiced at -158 odds, 7.5 receptions is a great line here. Overall, this is a 49ers defense that allows 10.2 receptions to receivers per game, and just 110.2 yards per game to wideouts.
Overall, Nacua is one of the best playmakers in the game, and he continues to lead all receivers in the NFL. The 49ers have strong linebackers in Fred Warner, Luke Gifford, and Dee Winters, however, I don't fully trust the Rams secondary.
I'm confident in this prop given Stafford targets Nacua heavily on first, second, and third downs. With that, he's continued to log heavy reception numbers. According to PFF, Nacua is the first player since 2006 to record 40+ receptions without a single drop. Plus, his 432 receptions through four weeks ties an NFL record.
My third best bet for today, I placed one unit on the 49ers vs Rams to tally under 44.5 points tonight.
While the over has hit in four of their last five head-to-head matchups, we have to take into account both the Rams and 49ers rank 11th and 12th in defensive DVOA.
The Rams offense has been on a tear, scoring 25+ points in three straight games. As for the 49ers, they put up 26 points in week 2 vs the Saints, however, they've been limited to 16 and 21 points over the last two weeks.
However, tonight marks a divisional matchup, which usually means they are close scoring. In December 2024, the Rams defeated the 49ers 12-6. Mind you, that was with Purdy, Kittle, Jennings, and Pearsall.
Both the 49ers and Rams have a 2-2 over/under record, and Thursday night games have hit the under three times in four weeks. Plus, the 49ers will be missing a chunk of their offense. Without Pearsall and Jennings, the passing game is severely damaged. While McCaffrey has been a top receiving option, the run game has been off to a slow start.
I do think the Rams will win tonight, and are massive favorites. With that, the 49ers don't have the firepower to keep up with LA on the offensive end. 44.5 points seems like a fair total; however, this is a 49ers team that excels when they hold a lead under Kyle Shanahan. If that's the case, I could see LA leaning more on the run game and Kyren Williams.
