With 14 games scheduled for the NFL Sunday slate, there are several high-profile division matchups ahead! For some, the stakes are high, and playoff hopes are still alive as we approach the end of the season.
An afternoon clash will feature the Detroit Lions (8-5, 3-3 away) and the Los Angeles Rams (10-3, 5-1). We all remember the Matthew Stafford trade for Jared Goff, right? Featuring those two top quarterbacks, Stafford remains the NFL MVP front-runner, and there should be plenty of offense in this one. A one-two punch—the Rams lead the NFL with 49 touchdowns, and trailing is the Lions with 48.
In an AFC East rivalry matchup in Foxborough, the 9-4 Buffalo Bills will face the 11-2 New England Patriots on the road. With expected cold temperatures, it's a high-stakes game for both squads, and plenty of touchdowns can be scored. Who doesn't love a good showdown between two quarterbacks in Josh Allen vs. Drake Maye!? The Bills score the third-most touchdowns in the NFL (47), while the Patriots rank top seven with 40 touchdowns scored this season.
Perhaps the biggest news is the Indianapolis Colts' signing of 44-year-old Phillip Rivers following an Achilles injury to Daniel Jones. Yes, you heard that right—Phillips came out of retirement. Getting the starting nod Sunday, the 8-5 Colts are in danger of losing their playoff spot, and face a stingy 10-3 Seattle Seahawks defensive unit. Can Phillips live up to the hype? They've scored the fourth-most touchdowns this season (44), but now get a challenging test in the Emerald City.
Perhaps a high-scoring affair can take place between NFC Division rivals Washington Commanders (3-10, 1-6 away) and the New York Giants (2-11, 2-3 home). Although both are eliminated from playoff contention, both teams allow a combined 55.4 gams this season! With Jayden Daniels out as quarterback, Marcus Mariota will once again get the starting nod.
Other key matchups include divisional showdowns between the Panthers vs. Saints, Chargers vs. Chiefs, and Ravens vs. Bengals. In this article, you will find my three best bets and touchdown predictions that include top quarterbacks, running backs, and wide receivers. Let's take a look at my top plays for Sunday, December 14. If you're tailing my picks, I placed all of my bets within Fanatics and DraftKings Sportsbook.

GP: 12 | REC: 93 | TGTS: 118 | Receiving Yards: 1,186 |AVG: 12.8 | Touchdowns: 6 | Receiving Long: 39
My first-best bet for Sunday, I placed one unit on Rams wide receiver Puka Nacua to score a touchdown against the Detroit Lions.
Davante Adams was the play here, but the price was simply too high. The stakes are high for both teams, and the sportsbooks are predicting a high-scoring matchup with a 54.5 over/under total. I do believe plenty of players will cross the plane this afternoon.
With less than four weeks remaining in the NFL season, Matt Stafford remains the leading MVP front-runner (-180 odds) and is in line to win his first MVP award ever. That means I'm expecting him to throw today. The Lions are desperate to make the playoffs, and may have an extra pep in their step. However, they allow the second-most touchdowns to wide receivers (20).
Despite boasting an eleventh-best defensive DVOA, losing Brian Branch to the IR is the worst possible outcome for the secondary. With several injuries to the defense, this is where Nacua could shine.
There's no doubt Adams has been the red zone guy, but Nacua has proved himself as a top receiver in the NFL with Jaxon Smith-Njigba. The NFL's leader in receptions (93), Pacua ranks among the top five in receiving yards (1,186), target share (30.3 %), YAC (432), Targets per route run, catch percentage (78.8 %), and MORE!
Puka is elite, and there's no denying that. Although cracking outside the top 10 with six touchdowns per year, he found the end zone twice last week against the Arizona Cardinals. He may be in line as the top option, as Adams is coming off a hamstring injury.
Last week, Nacua played just 44 percent of snaps, but have a more competitive matchup with the Lions on Sunday. Coming off a 167 receiving yard performance, he looks to keep it rolling against a banged-up Lions squad. Not only did Detroit give up 121 receiving yards to CeeDee Lamb last week (Cowboys), but Dontayvion Wicks (Packers) found the endzone twice against Detroit on Thanksgiving.
Overall, the Lions have allowed four touchdowns to wide receivers over the last two games. Likely to be paired up with D.J. Reed, we've seen him get torched this season, especially on Thanksgiving.
While Nacua is much more than a red zone threat, he falls behind Adams in that department. Even so, he's recorded eight receptions for 53 yards and two touchdowns inside the 20.
GP: 13 | Carries: 129 | Rushing Yards: 625 | Avg Rushing: 4.8 | Rush TD: 5 | Rec TD: 1 | Receiving Yards: 199 | Rush long: 69
My second-best bet for Sunday, I placed one unit on Patriots running back TreVeyon Henderson to score a touchdown against the Buffalo Bills.
It's snowing in New England. Now is in the forecast, along with low temperatures and nearly 7 MPH winds at kickoff. If anything, I'm expecting the Patriots to keep the ground game going against a Bills defense that allows the most rushing touchdowns to running backs this season, with 16!
It looks as though head coach Mike Vrabel is committed to a running committee between Henderson and Rhamondre Stevenson, who both got looks against the Giants last week.
While Stevenson outsnapped Henderson 58 to 49 percent, Stevenson rushed for 40 yards on 11 carries, and Henderson for 67 yards on 11 carries. Injuries have plagued the Patriots' running game this season, but Henderson has made the most of his opportunities.
Leading the Patriots' rushing core with five rushing touchdowns on the year, Henderson has been by far the most efficient back in the red zone. Rushing for 63 yards on 23 attempts, he's scored four touchdowns inside the 20 alone.
While the Bills stuffed Chase Brown last week for 23 rushing yards, he scored three touchdowns. If we look at the stats, they do not lie. The Bills have given up 12 rushing and receiving touchdowns to backs over the last five weeks. You heard that correctly, 12!
We've seen several players have multiple touchdown performances against Buffalo, which include Sean Tucker (3), Chase Brown (3), Jaylen Warren (2), De'Von Achane (2), and Derrick Henry (2).
GP: 10 | CMP: 145 | Attempts: 228 | Passing Yards; 1,556 | Passing TD: 11 | Int: 3 | Rushing Yards: 337 | Rushing TD: 7
My third-best bet for Sunday, I placed one unit on Giants quarterback Jaxson Dart to score a touchdown against the Washington Commanders.
Dart is back from concussion protocol and back in the lineup. Blanked 33-15 by the Patriots last week, the Giants' offense was abysmal.
With just two wins on the season, it's all but over for the Giants, but Dart now gets to continue to show New York why he's the quarterback of the future. While the plan is to get Dart to run less, that's a significant strength of his game. Similar to the Bills, Josh Allen WAS supposed to run less.
The Giants' options are limited with Cam Skattebo and Malik Nabers out for the season. And to be fair, Dart has produced the most offense with seven rushing touchdowns this season. He's been extremely impressive as a rookie, adapting to the highest level, and has used his legs quite a bit this season.
Overall, the Commanders have given up one lone rushing touchdown to the Bears quarterback Caleb Williams, but Dart has scored a touchdown in six games this season. Now, without Jayden Daniels, the Commanders remain one of the worst defensive teams in the NFL. Ranked No. 27 in defensive DVOA, they allow the fifth-most points per game (27.2 PPG).
