With few regular-season games remaining, tonight's matchup featuring Laces BC and Rose BC is a critical one.
Led by Alyssa Thomas, Jackie Young, and Brittney Sykes, Laces BC is tied with Phantom BC for the best record in the league. Having already clinched a playoff spot, they hold the current No. 2 seed.
The favorite to win it all, DraftKings has Laces listed at +250 odds. One of the more complete teams in Unrivaled, they have a tall task tonight: Chelsea Gray and Rose BC.
Despite the late-season signing of Angel Reese, Rose BC is below .500 and remains on the cusp of playoff contention. Sitting at the fifth seed, they've dropped two straight. With the fourth-best odds (+700), Rose has just a 12.5% chance to repeat as Unrivaled champions.
As we saw last season, any team can emerge down the stretch. While Lunar Owls BC were the heavy favorites, Rose and Vinyl thrived down the stretch. Laces BC was considered my team to beat last season, but injuries unfortunately derailed them.
Oddsmakers are predicting a close matchup, as Laces BC are slim 2.5-point favorites and -145 on the moneyline. With the over/under total set for 142.5 points, the sportsbooks are predicting a higher-scoring affair.
If you're new to Unrivaled, it's a three-on-three women's professional basketball league. Co-founded by Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier, it's a league for the players, designed by the players. Featuring three seven-minute quarters and a fourth quarter target score, it's a unique, fast-paced style of hoops.

This matchup will be headlined by two powerhouse teams, including Chelsea Gray and Angel Reese of Rose BC and Alyssa Thomas and Jackie Young of Laces BC. With a clean injury report on both sides, this should be a dogfight.

OVER/UNDER (TOTAL)
This is one of those anticipated matchups, intended to be so close that it's tough to bet on. That said, I'm taking Rose BC to cover the +2.5-point spread as underdogs.
There's no doubt that Rose BC has had a tumultuous season. With a 5-7 record, they are one game ahead of Vinyl BC for the final playoff spot. With timing running out, they are riding a two-game losing streak.
I'm not making excuses for Rose; they are the defending champs, and Gray, Lexie Hull, Kahleah Copper, and coach Nola Henry are all returning from last season. With a win over Laces plus a Phantom victory over Hive, Rose will punch its way into the postseason.
In other words, this is a must-win for Rose BC. Especially since Phantom BC is waiting for them to conclude the final game of the regular season.
It's evident that Rose was dealing with injuries, and the departure of Azurà Stevens did hurt in some capacity. And although they dropped the last game to Hive, I was impressed by Angel Reese's stat line of 13 points and eight rebounds in 10.8 minutes. Mind you, Reese came off the bench for Henry.
It's fair to say Rose's defense has been one of the least efficient in the league, which is a concern. Giving up 80 points to Hive and 90 to Mist, that could play a factor tonight. If the Rose wants to stay in this, defense is a must, especially against downhill drivers in Thomas, Sykes, and Young. After all, they allow over 75 points per game.
Put that aside—Rose has the pieces to keep up with the Laces. And in some capacity, they match up better size-wise. The Laces are guard-heavy, including Jordin Canada, but lack size with Naz Hillmon and Maddy Siegrist.
Rose is one of the least efficient teams on the glass (30 RPG), and Shakira Austin and Reese should make the difference on the boards for Rose. And let's not forget, Rose is the top 3-point shooting team in the league (35.8%). While both teams are middle-of-the-road in terms of 3-point attempts, tonight may come down to the deep shots.
Last time these two clubs met, Laces BC came away with the victory, 70-66. Although Rose attempted 55 shots, Laces shot 51% from the field, led by Jackie Young with 35 points. The question remains: Can head coach Andrew Wade receive more production from Sykes and Thomas? We know he's not afraid to utilize the bench.
The last game was decided by four points, and Rose shot 43.6% from the floor and a respectable 42.1% from beyond the arc. And in this case, it will take an entire team to stop a small three-guard lineup. Henry has deployed a double-big lineup before, and it's been proven successful—will she do it again?
I do believe Reese's presence will give Rose the advantage on the boards, something that they struggled with against the Laces last time around. Plus, Austin recorded zero points. You read that correctly, zero points. Aside from two games, Austin has taken her game to new heights, scoring double-digit points in nine games. Against Laces, she logged just 5.7 minutes.
I'm aware the Laces boast the best defense in Unrivaled, allowing just 65.3 points per game. While Rose's offense can be choppy at times, buckets won't come easily. If anyone can make ugly shots turn pretty, it's Rose. They have the grit and hustle. Plus, Lexie Hull and Sug Sutton are key pieces off the bench.
