Unrivaled is back, and there's a highly anticipated matchup between Phantom BC (9-3) and Hive BC (4-8).

Oddsmakers didn't have faith in Phantom BC, but they are sitting atop the Unrivaled standings with a 9-3 record. Tied with Laces BC for the top seed, Phantom already clinched a playoff spot. With the season winding down, this is a crucial matchup for both clubs.
There's one game of separation between the top three seeds, so a win is vital for Phantom BC to retain top seeding. At 4-8, Hive was all but eliminated from playoff contention. That was until they traded for Azurá Stevens from Rose BC, and are tied with Vinyl BC for the 6th and final playoff spot.
Following Vinyl's 77-56 loss to Breeze BC, Hive remains alive. With six games remaining until the playoff, this weekend's matchups will give a clearer picture of the postseason seeding.
Unlike traditional basketball, Unrivaled is a three-on-three women's professional basketball league. Co-founded by Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier, it's for the players, designed by the players. Including three seven-minute quarters, the final quarter features a target score. With unique free-throw rules, there's no overtime in this league.

OVER/UNDER (TOTAL)
Initially, I was all in on Hive BC. With a 4-8 record, they remain tied with Vinyl BC for the sixth and final playoff spot. With just two regular-season games remaining, every matchup counts.
While Hive started out rocky, it's understandable given that none of its players held Unrivaled experience prior to the season. Not only did they keep things close between Vinyl BC and Breeze BC, but this club has won two of the last three games.
Most impressively, they defeated the reigning Unrivaled champion Rose BC 80-78 on Friday. Yes, you read that correctly—they spoiled Angel Reese's Unrivaled season debut.
Hive has shown glimpses of greatness, especially by capturing victories over Breeze and Rose twice. The offense was quite stagnant over the first half of the season, and this is a club that averages the fewest points per game (66.5) and ranks toward the bottom of the standings in 3-point percentage (30.1%) and two-point percentage (51.6%).
Squeezing out a two-point victory against Chelsea Gray and Rose BC, it was Monique Billings and Azurà Stevens who combined for 38 points and 18 rebounds. While both teams have struggled defensively, I was more impressed by Kelsey Mitchell's continued dominance with 27 points.
Now that Stevens and Hiedeman are both ruled out, I don't believe Hive stands a chance. Hiedeman hasn't been extremely effective in her minutes and on offense, but can provide a quick spark in transition off the bench. Without Stevens, Hive will miss a floor spacing big that is needed to combat the boards against Phantom's Aliyah Boston and Kiki Iriafen.
The last time these two clubs met, Phantom BC came away victorious, 71-59. Not only was Hive's offense stagnant, but it also showcased Phantom's defensive prowess. Led by Boston and Kelsey Plum, the two combined for 42 points alone in their last meeting.
All eyes are on Phantom tonight. A win tonight would not only clinch a playoff spot for Paige Bueckers and Breeze but also secure a top-two seed and first-round bye for Phantom.
Tied for the best record in Unrivaled, Phantom BC has been one of the most dominant and consistent clubs all season. Boasting a league-best +74 point differential, they've been one of the most efficient teams on both sides of the ball. Putting up 72.6 points per game, they allow just 66. Offensively, they are a heavy 3-point shooting team (19.7 3PA), and have the perfect mix to drive downhill and score inside.
Am I really going to fade a Phantom club that's won five straight games? When I mean they've been destructive, I truly mean that. With recent wins over top teams such as Mist BC, Laces BC, and Breeze BC, it holds a +34 differential over that span. Limiting opponents to an average of 63.8 points per game, Phantom notably held Lunar Owls and Laces BC to 49 and 58 points.
The defense alone has been paramount. Holding opponents to 66 points per game, the Phantom is the best at guarding the perimeter. Limiting opposing teams to 25.5% from beyond the arc, players such as Natasha Cloud and Boston provide that two-way presence.
I know this is a must-win game for Hive to stay alive, but injuries may be its downfall. While they defeated Rose, this is a club that lost to Laces BC by 15 points and to Mist BC by 13 points.
Phantom is one of the most well-built teams for three-on-three basketball. Plum (21.6 PPG) and Boston (19.6 PPG, 10.3 RPG) rank among the top ten in scoring, and Cloud and Tiffany Hayes have been speedy guards off the bench. Plus, let's not forget how dominant Iriafen has been, filling in when Boston gets into foul trouble.
As a team, Phantom is the superior team on both sides of the ball. I know 5.5 points is a lot to give, but I don't feel Hive can keep up with Phantom defensively. Now that Saniya Rivers departed via a four-team trade, this team lost a step defensively. Overall, they allow nearly 75 points per game, with opponents shooting 49.5% from the field.
Overall, Phantom is putting up 74.3 points per game over the last three games. While they've been in close games, Hayes and Cloud have been critically effective in the second half of the season. Plus, I'm taking Phantom on the boards all day.
