For the early matchup, the Laces (7-7) will face Rose (8-6). Two-point underdogs, I have the Laces to win the first-ever Unrivaled championship at +650 odds. For injuries, Kate Martin will not suit up for the Laces, while Angel Reese and Kahleah Copper will not suit up for the Rose. Jackie Young is questionable for Laces, which will shift the landscape dramatically.
Due to injuries, Naz Hillmon and Natisha Hiedeman have been assigned to Rose from the player relief pool. In addition, Ariel Atkins has been assigned to the Laces. Don't sleep on Atkins! What an incredible addition to this team.
In the late evening matchup, the Vinyl (5-9) will face the Lunar Owls (13-1). The Owls are the favorites to win the championship at -350 odds, and they are massive favorites with a -2000 money line on FanDuel.
Let's take a look at the Sunday, March 16 Unrivaled Semifinal schedule and FanDuel odds. Every game will be high stakes, especially since every player on the championship team will receive $50,000 each!
*Napheesa Collier has been downgraded to QUESTIONABLE as of 6 p.m. ET *
TEAM VS TEAM | MONEYLINE | SPREAD | TOTALS |
---|---|---|---|
LACES VS ROSE | +112 / -146 | +2 / -2 | 126.5 |
VINYL VS LUNAR OWLS | +790 / -2000 | +12.5 / -12.5 | 150.5 |
With two days of Unrivaled left, let's finish out the season strong! If you're here to support and bet on women's basketball, great!
With the games set to tip-off at 7:30 p.m. ET and 8:30 p.m. ET, both games will air on TNT, TruTV, TSN+, and Youtube Live.
Let's take a look at my two best bets for the Sunday, March 16 Unrivaled Semifinal matchups!
As I mentioned before, the Laces are my top team to win it all, despite the Lunar Owls 13-1 on the season. The Laces are healthy for the most part, aside from Kate Martin. In fact, if Jackie Young is able to suit up, this will strengthen my decision even more.
Having three top scorers within the top 13, Kayla McBride is a sure candidate to win the Unrivaled MVP award alongside Napheesa Collier. Starting the season off a strong 4-0, they declined quickly due to various injuries. The Laces suffered injuries to Alyssa Thomas, Tiffany Hayes, Jackie Young, and Kate Martin just to name a few.
Backed by Andrew Wade, this is one of the most talented teams in Unrivaled filled with three-point shooting. First off, the Laces have the innate ability to get downhill with McBride, Thomas, and Hayes. Second in three-point shooting, this team will take a ton of looks beyond the arc. Especially with McBrides fast release. Their 6.5 three-pointers per game ranks second in all of Unrivaled.
While not the highest offensive powered team, this squad has the ability to do so when healthy. Putting up 86 points in the first week, the Laces averaged 77 points over the first three weeks. In fact, they soared over 80+ points over that span.
Despite a cold streak with injuries, the Laces finished out the season strong with a 2-0 finish. With a +21 point differential over the Phantom and Mist, we saw the Laces shoot an impeccable 41.7 percent beyond the arc in the season finale. While Hayes and McBride combined for a total of 33 points, let's talk about Jackie Young.
We finally saw Young have her first breakout game with 27 points the last game of the season. With nagging knee injuries, I'm rooting for Jackie tonight. Truly unstoppable, Young was crucial in the Laces last victory against the Mist. With the ability to get to the line, Young's three-point shooting (5-8) was truly unmatched.
Then you add the "Engine" in Alyssa Thomas, could grabbed 12 rebounds and dished out six assists in the season finale. This team as it all. While the Owls lead the league with a +170 point differential, the Laces rank No. 3 with a +20 point differential. Mind you, that's been with injuries.
When it comes to the Rose, Nola Henry could have been the Unrivaled Coach of the Year. After starting 1-4 on the season, the team looked disheveled with minimal chemistry. Then came the eruption from Chelsea Gray. By working with Lisa Leslie, Angel Reese earned Defensive Player of the Year.
There's no doubt the Rose have a secret weapon in Chelsea Gray. Named All First-Team, Gray leads Unrivaled with six clutch buckets on the season. Not to mention, she finished third in Unrivaled with 21.4 points and 5.4 assists per game.
There's no doubt the Rose will be hurting without Reese and Copper. Without Reese, Rose automatically lose that incredible connection between Angel and Gray. Don't sleep on Azurà Stevens, she's been incredibly efficient. However, Rose will lose a ton of second chance points and rebounding opportunities.
Finishing out the season 4-1, we know how dangerous this Rose team can be. Heck, we even saw them defeat the No. 1 seed Lunar Owls.
2-1 on the season, the Rose conceded to the Laces 71-66 in week one. Since then, the Rose have two victories and a +20 point differential over the Laces.
With Reese out, Stevens, Brittney Sykes, and Lexie Hull will be the ultimate x-factors. Going up against a fairly healthy Laces team is nothing to sniff at.
My second best bet for the Unrivaled semifinal matchups, I bet on the Vinyl vs Lunar Owls matchup to total over 150.5 total points.
These are two of the top offensive teams in the league, with the Lunar Owls scoring over 80 points per game. The first team to score over 1,000 points in Unrivaled, 80.7 points is a ton. With MVP candidate Napheesa Collier leading the league with 25.7, this squad has been dominant from top to bottom.
Allisha Gray, Skylar Diggins-Smith, Shakira Austin, Courtney Williams, what a powerhouse supporting cast. And to think of Cameron Brink was healthy this season?
With full steam ahead, the Lunar Owls offense has been on a tear. Scoring 92 points against the Mist in the season finale, Lunar Owls have scored 88+ points in three of their last five final games. In that span, they averaged 83.2 points per game.
Leading the league with a massive point differential, the Lunar Owls lead in several statistical categories. That includes points per game (80.1), field goals made (31.3), field goal percentage (52.6 %), and total assists.
While the Vinyl have a defensive mindset, they have the fifth worst point differential in Unrivaled with -3.85. Having two of the most prolific scorers in the league with Dearica Hamby and Rhyne Howard, this team should have plenty of offensive fire power. Plus, Arike Ogunbowale will return from injury.
Powered by Rhyne Howard, team Vinyl will get their shot of three point attempts. Plus, these are two of the best passing teams in Unrivaled with minimal turnovers.
With two out of their three matchups soaring over 150.5 points, I'm confident in this number tonight.
Aside from a disastrous 74-46 season finale loss vs Rose, Vinyl averaged 73 points in the previous two games before that. Averaging 65.7 points vs the Owls, it's unlikely they will explode for 80+ points. However, the Lunar Owls averaged 76.7 points vs Vinyl this season.
The question remains, will we see a low-scoring matchup like we saw in the Owls 67-57 defeat over the Vinyl early in the season? Or will the last two matchups resemble tonight? Either way, I trust the Lunar Owls offensive by themselves alone.
