Reports of the Warriors’ imminent demise appear to have been greatly exaggerated. The team, after an up-and-down 2023 season, lost Klay Thompson and it seemed that they were on the downswing with a lot of their young talent not living up to expectations.
However, never count out a team with Stephen Curry at the helm. Even battling an early season ankle injury that sidelined him for four games, the sharpshooter has shown why he’s still one of the (if not the) best point guards in the league.
He’s putting up a strong campaign so far, averaging 21.2 points, 5.2 rebounds, 7 assists, and 2 steals across five games. That’s then backed by an incredible 42.2 three point percentage, which still gives him the ability to stretch the floor unlike anyone else in the league.

That’s quite impressive, but what’s really pushed Golden State over the top is their supporting cast. The role players have come together in a big way, and they show no signs of slowing down.
Kyle Davis and Buddy Hield have both proved to be big additions to an already solid lineup, while Trayce Jackson-Davis and Moses Moody are solid pieces that help facilitate the likes of Andrew Wiggins and Draymond Green.
Deep teams always do well in the NBA, and the Warriors proved that by going to Boston and taking down the Celtics in what proved to be one of the most exciting matchups of the early NBA season.
The Warriors (7-1) have one of the best records in the league. Still, there have been many doubters despite their hot start due to speculation that they don’t have what it takes to beat real teams. Most of their wins came against lesser squads, with their only loss coming against the Clippers.
In fact, of their seven wins, five have been to teams with a losing record. They didn’t have Curry for some of those, but it still led to many naysayers doubting if the Warriors' cast could hold up against some of the more elite teams across the NBA.

They silenced all doubts in Boston. A six point win against the Celtics in their stadium is a big deal. It showed that Curry is back from the ankle injury and will continue to play at an extremely high level. On top of that, it also cemented that Golden State’s role players are capable of supporting the team.
Such stats are significant because beating the Celtics wasn’t just another win, it showed that the Warriors are truly one of the strongest teams in the current NBA.

Many teams in the NBA are carried by superstars, but sometimes a squad emerges that’s much more well-rounded. That’s a formula the Heat have found success with the past few seasons, and it’s something the Warriors hope to emulate going forward.
While missing Curry hurt, the team still did a good job while he sat out. With him back and healthy, it seems the sky might be the limit for the young team. They aren’t just one strong guard backed up by a cast, they are a well-oiled machine that contributes in several ways.
Even more interesting is that their next two games are against the Cavaliers and Thunder before moving into the group stage of the NBA cup where they will face the Mavericks. Those three games will show their resilience and help shape the early playoff picture.
No matter what happens, all it takes is going 2-1 during that stretch to show that they belong. It might be too early to talk about championships, but if they can beat the Celtics on the road they have the potential to take down anyone in the NBA.
