If you missed my previous article, I gave the odds and my betting prediction for the Starry 3-Point contest. Putting the Skills Challenge in full focus, Allisha Gray will attempt to defend her title from last year. Racking in the extra bonus check, it was Gray who was crowned winner of both the Skills Challenge and 3-Point Contest!
With five participants in line for the Skills Challenge, the timed obstacle course will test players' dribbling, bounce pass, chest pass, and outlet passes. Additionally, it places the best shooters on the line from the elbow, beyond the 3-point arc, and the corner 3-point line. Gray joins Skylar Diggins, Natasha Cloud, Courtney Williams, and Erica Wheeler as this year's STACKED participants!
This year's lineup features all guards, who will have the opportunity to showcase their speed, craftiness, and accuracy. Will Allisha Gray defend her title and go back-to-back? With $55,000 on the line, who's going to win it? For some, this could be more than half of their WNBA salary.
| Players | Team | Odds |
|---|---|---|
| Allisha Gray | Atlanta Dream | +320 |
| Skylar Diggins | Seattle Storm | +350 |
| Natasha Cloud | New York Liberty | +370 |
| Courtney Williams | Minnesota Lynx | +400 |
| Erica Wheeler | Seattle Storm | +400 |
If you're looking to bet on the 2025 WNBA All-Star Weekend and Skills Challenge, welcome!
With five high profiled WNBA guards set to compete, there's not a clear cut winner in my eyes. Set to begin at 8 p.m. ET, the Skills Challenge will air on ESPN, and will take place at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
Let's take a look at the WNBA All-Star Skills Challenge contestants, along with my best bets, predictions, and odds for the July 18 events! Stay tuned for my final prediction at the end of the article.
The favorite to win it all with +320 odds, Allisha Gray is the clear cut favorite after taking home the crown last year. While a trophy and a bonus check is nice—other's will be competing for the same thing. That's not to say Gray can't repeat, but it will be tough to do so.
This is the ultimate test that not only tests passing skills, but speed and shooting accuracy. As we've seen in the past, Gray possesses all these qualities. In fact, she's having a career-year, putting up 18.4 points, 5.6 rebounds, and 4.0 assists. Not to mention, Gray is shooting 43.8 percent from the field, 38.1 percent from three, and 38.1 percent from mid-range.
We know Gray can shoot the rock, and her 4.0 assists marks a career-high. Plus, she did win the half-court shooting contest at practice this morning. Perhaps the cash and career accolades may continue to stack up for Lish!
Believe it or not, this is Skylar Diggins first time competing in the WNBA All-Stars Skill Challenge. Considered one of the most pristine guards in the WNBA, Diggins has played 11 seasons in the WNBA, and is in her second with the Storm.
If Gray didn't win last year, I would have Skylar at the top of the odds list. Named an All-Star reserve, Diggins has proved she's one of the most elite guards in the league. In 23 games with Seattle, she's averaged 17.5 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 5.8 assists. No to to mention, she's shooting 43.2 percent from the field, and 38.2 percent from beyond the arc.
When I think of Diggins, I think of her illustrious career, Unrivaled, and her ability to be clutch. There's a reason why Diggins keeps her body in check–she's built for moments like these. With these type of competitions requires endurance, not to mention Diggins sits among the top five in assists per game!
Overall, Diggins leads the rest in 3-point percentage, and is considered one of the most competitive athletes out there. Passionate, intense, Diggins is a true competitor. We've seen how clutch she can be—I'm expecting her to bring that energy into the Skills Challenge tonight!
Minnesota Lynx All-Star Courtney Williams is a sneaky good pick here at +370 odds. The co-host of 'Stud Budz,' Courtney Williams and Natisha Hiedeman have taken over WNBA All-Star weekend. Giving a fans a glimpse of their lives and the entire weekend, it's safe to say Williams is a popular choice.
Williams brings every skill thats needed for the Skills Challenge. She arguably has the both lethal mid range in the WNBA. Plus, we all remember her four-point play in the WNBA Finals against the New York Liberty, right?
Williams is passionate, outgoing, and never backs down for a challenge. Plus, if there's money involved, Williams never shies away from that (As she should get that bag!). With decent handles and one of the smoothest jumpers in the game, Williams is averaging 14.0 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 6.0 assists on the season.
Third in dimes per game behind Alyssa Thomas and Caitlin Clark, Williams is shooting 37.9 percent from three, and 42.5 percent from the field. If anyone can survive an obstacle course on the brightest stage, it's Courtney Williams. Plus, it would be fitting since Stud Budz is in the midst of a 72 hour live stream on Twitch.
Even after last night festivities, I'm high on Courtney Williams. That's if she ever gets to properly refuel her body.
Traded to the New York Liberty in the offseason, Natasha Cloud has found her happiness after her long-term plan in Phoenix didn't pan out.
Starting point guard for the New York Liberty alongside Sabrina Ionescu, Cloud's numbers were naturally going to decline. That's occurs when you're on a championship caliber roster with an abundance of talent. Even so, she's averaging 9.9 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 6.0 assists.
An early All-Star candidate, Cloud slowed down a bit after a hot start for New York. Although Tash is a talented guard, who racks up dimes and has the speed, I'm wondering how she's valued at +400 odds here. She does hold the lowest 3-point percentage (31.6 %), and is shooting 42.2 percent from the field this season.
Although Cloud threes can be a bit streaky and inconsistent, she heads into tonight's Skills Challenge shooting 39.2 percent from three over the last four games. Mind you, the Fever, Dream, and Storm are no easy feats. Shall we ride the hot hand here? Plus, her energy and passion is CONTAGIOUS!
I do think the odds should be higher, only since her shooting percentages have been low. Either way, she's considered of of the most elite passers in the WNBA. Overall, I rather miss passes than shots.
My darkhorse candidate, Erica Wheeler gets redemption after missing last year's Skills Challenge due to an airlines issue with Delta. Both her and Cloud have the highest odds, and what better story line for Wheeler. She makes her triumphant return, and get's the opportunity to win it all in front of her former team—the Indiana Fever.
While she's spent a majority of her career with the Indiana Fever, Wheeler is thriving in her first season with the Seattle Storm. Not only does she have to compete against a list of STACKED guards, her teammate Skylar Diggins is highly favored tonight.
A 10 year veteran in the WNBA, Wheeler has endured a career resurgence with the Storm—averaging 11.2 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 3.6 assists. Not to mention, she's shooting 38 percent from three, and 41.9 percent from the floor.
From undrafted to a bona fide starter, Wheeler has the opportunity to play for pride, and an extra $55,000. Averaging under 10 points per game over the last three seasons, Wheeler is seriously blossoming over in the Emerald City.
Given Wheeler is shooting the rock from three at a high clip, I don't understand how the odds are so high. Since she's having one of the best shooting stints of her career, the books can't disrespect Wheeler like this.
