WNBA Best Bets (August 10): Tempo vs. Dream, Sky vs. Storm Odds & Predictions

Just two games on the WNBA card tonight, as we approach Rivals Week with plenty of big-time matchups forthcoming. That shouldn't take away from tonight's two games, which provide intrigue in their own right.

Tipping at 8 p.m. Eastern on Peacock, the expansion Toronto Tempo visit the Atlanta Dream, who currently reside in fourth place and could leapfrog the idle Washington Mystics into sole possession of fifth place with a win tonight. The Dream are back home after suffering a 79-74 road loss to the Mystics on Friday, and might be accompanied by plenty of anger after letting the costly loss in D.C. marinate over the weekend.

In the nightcap, the Chicago Sky visit the Seattle Storm in a 10 p.m. ET tip that will be seen on USA. Though it's quite an uphill climb for the 11th-place Sky, who are 6.5 games behind the eighth and final playoff spot, they're still eligible for the playoffs with 12 games left on their schedule. And as long as there's a chance, coach Tyler Marsh is sure to have his team prepared to play as if it's only one game off the pace. The Storm, meanwhile, are the only team eliminated from postseason contention with the worst record in the league while bringing their second 11-game losing skid of the season into this game.

Toronto Tempo at Atlanta Dream

It's a shame how the Tempo have had their season unravel, mainly due to injuries. With Brittney Sykes and Kiki Rice each missing 16 games, the Tempo lost integral pieces to their offensive attack. They come into this one mired in an eight-game slide that has seen them get outscored by an average margin of nearly 18 points per loss. It's hard to determine what's worse, that they're scoring only 80.6 points per game or that they've allowed 98.5 PPG during that stretch. Sure, the Dream rank dead last in allowing teams to shoot .485 from the floor, but during the 0-8 skid, since July 14, the Tempo are shooting a league-low .434 from the field.

The Dream have done a great job in shaking off a five-game losing streak that lasted from June 24 through July 4, as they've won seven of 10 since July 9. They're scoring 92.3 PPG during the 10-game stretch, fifth-highest in the league. And where they've thrived is converting opponents' mistakes, ranking second in the W in the same span with 18.3 points off turnovers. They also rank first with 44.1 points in the paint and with 12.5 fast-break points, while they're tied for first with 14.4 second-chance points. These are all hustle stats that come when players are clicking and playing as a team.

My Best Bet Prediction: Atlanta -14.5 (-115)

• During their 10-game run, the Dream are also 5-2 in Atlanta, part of a season-long 11-5 home mark. That doesn't bode well for the Tempo, who have struggled with a suitcase in hand this season, ranking dead last in allowing 97.2 PPG on the road in 2026, on .495 shooting, also a league low. Atlanta won the first three meetings this season, winning by 25, 7 and 19 points. Interestingly enough, Atlanta's two double-digit wins were in Toronto, while the tighter game was in Atlanta. But the Tempo have failed to cover 10 of their last 13 and don't have as much to play for as the Dream. Lay the wood with this one.

Chicago Sky at Seattle Storm

• Spread: Chicago -1.5 (-110) | Seattle +1.5 (-110)

How angry might the Chicago Sky be after Saturday's emotionally charged home game against the Indiana Fever? We've all seen DiJonai Carrington's hard foul on Sophie Cunningham, and we all have our opinions. Carrington was ejected but appears ready to return without further punishment, and that will help offensively, with the Sky missing Skylar Diggins (knee) and Sydney Taylor (groin). Even after Carrington exited the game early, the Sky were able to compete and lost by just four. They've been much better offensively, with one of the best midseason improvements. After averaging just 82.4 PPG in its first 16 games, Chicago is scoring 94.1 PPG over its last 16 contests, the third-highest mark in the league since June 24.

The Storm continue to struggle under first-year coach Sonia Raman, as they return home from a four-game road trip on an 11-game skid during which they've been outscored by an average margin of 7.4. They have also lost four in a row at home, part of an overall 4-11 record in Seattle this season. The Storm can't seem to get out of their own way, committing the league's fourth-highest 15.1 turnovers per game, and that will play into Chicago hands, as the Sky rank fourth with 10.3 fast-break points in their last 16 games.

My Best Bet Prediction: Chicago -1.5 (-110)

• From a betting perspective, most impressively, the Sky have covered nine of their last 10 games, including a perfect 4-0 when laying points. They're also on a 3-0 ATS roll away from Chicago, all covers against teams (New York, Atlanta and Dallas) that would make the postseason if it started tonight.
