WNBA Best Bets for Today: Aces vs. Liberty Player Props, Odds, Game Totals & Predictions (June 23)

Lucky us! Who knew we'd get a preview of the Commissioners' Cup championship one week out? Nobody is complaining, least of all the league, as the New York Liberty visit the Las Vegas Aces on Tuesday in the lone game on the WNBA card.

The Liberty arrive in Las Vegas after back-to-back losses to teams that wouldn't make the playoffs if the postseason began tonight. New York fell to the Washington Mystics on Friday, an 86-83 setback in Brooklyn, and then opened a four-game road trip with a 98-97 walkoff loss in Los Angeles when Nneka Ogwumike drained a buzzer-beating 3-pointer for the in the WNBA's 30th Anniversary Game. No rest for the weary, either, as the Liberty will play their fourth game in as many cities, in what will be a seven-day span.

The Aces, meanwhile, have found their defense in the nick of time, as they've won their last two games while holding the Phoenix Mercury and Golden State Valkyries to 76 and 73 points — the lowest outputs for any of their opponents this season. Las Vegas also rolls into another epic showdown with the Liberty on an 8-1 roll since May 31. That said, the Aces have split their last six games at the window.

The Aces have played their best basketball the last two games, and aren't about to let the Liberty come into Michelob Ultra Arena and steal this game. Since losing their first two home games — both celebratory nights from their 2025 championship — the Aces are 4-0 at home, with wins over Golden State, Seattle, Minnesota and the Valkyries a second time just two nights back.

During their four-game home win streak, the Aces have scored an average of 94.3 points per game on a league-best 51.9 percent shooting since June 6. They've also learned to temper their mistakes at home, with a league-tying 11.5 turnovers in the same span.

My Tuesday WNBA Prediction

• The home team has won three straight meetings in this series, and because the Commissioners' Cup title game is in Brooklyn next Tuesday, the Aces will be determined to win tonight's game. Since the franchise moved to Las Vegas in 2018, the Aces are 8-3 SU when hosting the Liberty.

New York Liberty +2.5 (-106)

New York has played in three straight one-score games, having beaten the Sky by one in Chicago (96-95), losing by three at home to the Washington Mystics (86-83) and then Sunday's one-point shocker in Los Angeles (98-97). Now, against their arch-nemesis from the West Coast, who says another tight game isn't on their plate?

I can find deficiencies in both teams' defenses this season, which leads me to my thought of a potential shootout here. The Liberty have the third-worst scoring defense, allowing 90.9 points per game on the road. But they'll be facing a Las Vegas squad that has the fourth-highest allowance at home (90.0 points allowed).

My Tuesday WNBA Prediction

• While I think the Aces should win this game, it could come down to who has the ball last and who takes the last shot. And with how the Aces have been playing, it wouldn't shock me at all if Chelsea Gray or Jewell Loyd buries a buzzer-beater to win the game by a point or two.

A'ja Wilson First Scorer (+110)

A'ja Wilson has to be in the MVP conversation as we approach the halfway point in the season, right? The reigning MVP leads the league in scoring with 25.7 points per game. She comes into Tuesday's blockbuster showdown after scoring less than 20 points for just the fourth time this season. No, we shouldn't be concerned about her game total, but it's the general principle.

We're talking about the best player in the world, and she's delivered back-to-back double-doubles in her last two home games against the Liberty. As the leader of this Aces team, Wilson will want to set the tone immediately.

My Tuesday WNBA Prediction

• A'ja Wilson has scored the first bucket for Las Vegas seven times this season, followed by Chelsea Gray and NaLyssa Smith, both burying the first score three times. But in a matchup against Breanna Stewart, Wilson will want the ball on the first possession. Side note: Wilson has scored the first basket against the Liberty in four of the last seven meetings in Las Vegas.
