WNBA Best Bets (June 19): Top 3 Player Props & Odds for Mystics vs. Liberty

Three games on the card for Friday, and while it's clear which one might rival the marathon we saw in Indianapolis last night — tonight's clash between the Minnesota Lynx and Golden State Valkyries — some attractive player props are sitting in Brooklyn, where the New York Liberty host the Washington Mystics.

Let's take a look at my best bets and player prop plays for today!

I'll never hide the fact that I tend to take the journalist's hat off and throw a fan hoodie on for Washington's Sonia Citron, as I think she will evolve into a fantastic player. There have been times when the same can be said about New York's Sabrina Ionescu. So, it's no surprise I am hoping a 3-point shootout breaks out tonight at Barclays when the Liberty (11-4) host the Mystics (6-7).

The Eastern Conference-leading Liberty are now tied for second in the league standings with the Las Vegas Aces. I'm sure the league loves the fact that they're meeting in Sin City next Tuesday, four days before playing for the Commissioners' Cup championship, giving it an added selling point. The Mystics, meanwhile, arrive after a victory and are hoping for an upset win to bring them to .500 and keep them within reach of the eighth spot in the standings.

Sabrina Ionescu OVER 1.5 3-Pointers

The two-time WNBA 3-point shootout champion has had long-range success against the Mystics, as her .367 clip from beyond the arc against them is the third highest among all opponents. She's dropped 44 on Washington, in her 18 games against it, an average of 2.4 per meeting. And considering she's yet to go off in a game since returning to the lineup, I'm thinking this is a great spot for her to find her touch.

Ionescu, who averages 2.6 treys during her career when playing at home, should be fueled by what I'm banking on to be an energetic crowd one day after New York's basketball fans celebrated with the Knicks during the championship parade. It's very easy to see them pour into Barclays tonight to support the Liberty, who once again look like they could contend for a title. And who's been there longer than most? Ionescu.

In her three games this season, she's hit just four 3-pointers, twice canning two and once missing her two attempts. The lone goose egg? At home against these same Mystics on June 14. I was in the press conference when Ionescu was more upset about missing two 3-pointers than shattering the record for an All-Star 3-Point Shootout.

Final WNBA Betting Prediction: Sabrina Ionescu OVER 1.5 3-Pointers (-144)

• In six of the nine home games against the Mystics during her career, Ionescu has buried three or more 3-pointers. With time to get into her groove, in front of a packed house, I'm taking Ionescu to record over 1.5 3-pointers tonight.

Sonia Citron Over 1.5 3-pointers (+108)

If I'm playing one of the best to ever shoot the 3-ball over her total, I have to look for the young gunner to do the same, as Citron will look at it as a challenge against Ionescu. She's faced the Liberty six times in her career and has 12 made 3s to her credit. Easy arithmetic, that's 2.0 per meeting.

Citron will also be looking to find her rhythm, as she's made just two 3-pointers in her last three games, and comes into this one after missing all four attempts in Connecticut. There's a part of me that has to believe Citron is wondering how she could miss every attempt from beyond the arc, in a game she scored a season second-highest 26 points.

Final WNBA Betting Prediction: Sonia Citron OVER 1.5 3-Pointers (+108)

• Citron has drained two or more from long range in four of her six meetings with the Liberty. The two she failed were on June 14, when she hit one, and on May 10, when she missed all six attempts. Like Ionescu, I'd say Citron will be out for redemption.

Washington Mystics +13.5 (-115)

When you look at which team needs wins right now, the Mystics are certainly feeling the pressure much more than the Liberty. Do I think the Mystics are in jeopardy of losing outright? No. But I do think they're going to keep it close and stay inside of single digits. The Mystics should arrive with enough confidence for an inspired performance, as they've won two of their last three. The lone loss? A 22-point shellacking in Brooklyn. Just more motivation for the Mystics.

The Liberty are playing their best basketball after a 3-4 start to the season, having won eight in a row. I'll give them that much. But they also beat the banged-up Sky by one point in Chicago on Wednesday, and now are back home for a one-off in Brooklyn before heading West for a four-game trip through Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Seattle and San Francisco. Something tells me the Liberty will have one foot out the door with their bags packed for the junket.

Final WNBA Betting Prediction: Washington Mystics +12.5 (-115)

• While the Liberty have won the last 10 meetings with Washington, it's important to point out the Mystics have covered six of those games. And when the Mystics have caught double digits from New York during that 10-game stretch, they're 5-2 ATS. They've also covered three of the last five meetings in New York.
