The marquee matchup for today will headline Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever (24-13) vs. Sabrina Ionescu and the New York Liberty (22-15).
Two of the most popular teams will be pitted against one another as the Fever hold a two-game lead over the Liberty at the No. 4 seed in the standings. Interestingly enough, New York sits sixth in the standings, and has a slim one-half game lead over the Mystics. In other words, this is a high-stakes matchup for both squads.
Indiana leads the regular-season series 2-1, but enters today's contest as 3.5-point underdogs on the road. With a 5-1 record over the last six games, the Fever get a Liberty team that's 6-2 in its last eight games.
In the Golden State, the Los Angeles Sparks (12-24) will host the Connecticut Sun (9-26). Both teams have been eliminated from playoff contention and the Sun own the WNBA's second-worst record. Despite the Sun owning a 2-0 record against Los Angeles this season, the Sparks are 4.5-point spread favorites at home today.
Lastly, the Phoenix Mercury (13-25) will host the Atlanta Dream (23-13) in the Valley. Despite trading for Kelsey Plum, the Mercury are on the brink of playoff elimination, and Plum is questionable after missing multiple games. Sitting as the No. 5 seed in the standings, this is a must-win for the Dream, as they enter tonight's game as 7.5-point favorites on the road.
Overall, the Lynx, Valkyries, Aces, and Fever have all clinched a playoff berth. Four that haven't are the Liberty, Dream, Mystics, and Wings.

Let's take a look at my best bets, player prop picks, and predictions for the WNBA games on Saturday, Aug. 22.

If you know me, I don't like to bet unders on player props, but here we are. Today, I'm locking in Aliyah Boston to record under 9.5 rebounds.
I do want to point out that Boston is questionable to play tonight against the Liberty.
If active, let's look at the stats. Boston has cleared this line in just 11 of 34 games this season, and has failed to soar past nine rebounds against New York this season. In three games against the Liberty, Boston is averaging 7.6 rebounds per game. I especially like this prop given the fact that Mikayla Timpson has entered the starting lineup.
Replacing Monique Billings, Timpson has been clutch defensively, but has been monstrous on the boards. Although averaging just 4.6 rebounds on the season, Timpson has recorded 19 rebounds over the last two games.
Yes, this is going to affect Boston's production on the glass. Plus, she faces a Liberty team that averages the third-most rebounds per game in the WNBA (35.2). Jonquel Jones is questionable to play, but I wouldn't be surprised if she plays. Plus, Leonie Fiebich is expected to make her return for New York.
For my second-best bet, I'm locking in Cameron Brink to record 15+ points and rebounds against the Sun.
We already know the Sparks are out of playoff contention and starters have been getting reduced minutes. Normally, Nneka Ogwumike and Dearica Hamby have gotten the starting nod while Brink comes off the bench.
I do think this will be a close game with Connecticut somewhat, but Brink's minutes will most likely depend on the outcome of the game. As we saw last matchup, the Dream defeated the Sparks 124-88, which earned Brink 27 minutes.
Brink held her own against a strong Dream frontcourt, logging 14 points and seven rebounds, while shooting 3-of-9 from the field, 3-of-8 from three, and 5-of-6 from the line.
Overall, Brink is averaging just 16.1 minutes per game this season, including 7.5 points and 4.7 rebounds per game. Over the last 10 games, she's averaging 21.9 minutes, 9.8 points, and 6.8 rebounds per game. Based on the trajectory, it seems head coach Lynne Roberts is more than willing to give bench players a bigger role.
Despite the up-and-down minutes, Brink boasts a 23.6% usage rate, and is a big who can stretch the floor. This season, she's shooting 48.8% from the field and 32.9% from three with 6.4 field goal attempts per game.
I like this matchup for Brink today. This season the Sun have been decent defensively against forward/centers, but Brittney Griner and Aaliyah Edwards have been ruled out tonight. With Aneesah Morrow now in Toronto, that leaves Olivia Nelson-Ododa, Diamond Miller, and Reagan Beers to combat the Sparks' frontcourt.
For my third-best bet, I locked in Angel Reese to score over 15.5 points against the Mercury.
Reese may be going viral for her memes, but she's been on a tear lately. Aside from her game-missing layup, she's scored 41 points over the last two games and 20+ plus points in three of the last five games. That said, I'm fully expecting Reese to carry the load as Brionna Jones remains out.
Reese has been particularly more efficient post-All-Star break, averaging 17.1 points while shooting 28.6% from three compared to 12% in the first half. Furthermore, she's logging an average of 32.9 minutes post break with 14 FGA and 5.5 FTA per game.
We've seen Reese stretch the floor as of late, hitting 3-of-3 from beyond the arc over the last two games. While Reese continues to improve her 3-point shot, it's been unusual for her to be this effective. However, it's a main reason why this player prop is strong today.
Ranking among the top 10 in paint points per game (10.4), Reese leads the WNBA with 4.5 second-chance points per game. I especially like her matchup against a Mercury team that often plays positionless basketball. That said, Natasha Mack is back from injury but isn't starting. Overall, the starting five doesn't have much size outside of DeWanna Bonner.
Of course the Mercury have a taller-sized guards/forwards, such as Alyssa Thomas and Kahleah Copper, who can make a difference on the boards. However, there's a reason why the Dream are the second-best rebounding team in the WNBA (35.3 RPG). In fact, they lead the league with 10.8 offensive rebounds per game.
Conversely, the Mercury rank dead last with 6.9 offensive rebounds per game and rank No. 12 in rebounds per game (31.6). There's a very solid chance that Reese can score a bulk of her points from the line or from second-chance points alone.
