WNBA Best Bets Today (August 27): Player Props, Odds & Predictions

It's Thursday, and the WNBA is back with a two-game slate on Prime Video. In this article, you will find my best bets and player props for today's games.

Gabby Williams and the Golden State Valkyries (27-11) will face Sabrina Ionescu and the New York Liberty (23-15) on the road today. Golden State is fresh off a 25-point victory over the Connecticut Sun and will travel to New York for a back-to-back. Currently sitting at the No. 2 seed in the standings, the Valkyries remain 3.5 games back of the Minnesota Lynx for the top spot, but remain 1.5 games ahead of the Aces for the second spot.

It's been a tumultuous season for the Liberty, but they are sitting sixth in the standings with the Washington Mystics. The good news is that both squads have locked in a playoff berth, but now the seeding is to be determined. New York remains four games back of the Valkyries for the No. 2 spot.

Golden State leads the regular season series 2-0 and is 3-0 against New York since 2025. The Liberty received a much-needed win over Caitlin Clark and the Fever on Saturday and enter today's contest as 2.5-point spread favorites.

On the West Coast, the Washington Mystics (23-15) will face the Phoenix Mercury (13-25) in the Valley. Despite trading for Kelsey Plum, the Mercury have fallen out of playoff contention and have parted ways with DeWanna Bonner. Conversely, the Mystics are back in the playoffs for the first time since 2023 and remain a half-game ahead of the Dallas Wings for the No. 7 seed.

Today, the Mystics enter the matchup as 4.5-point favorites and hold a 2-0 lead over the Mercury in 2026. Fresh off two straight wins, the Mystics have won seven of their last 10 games and will face the Mercury for the second time in three days. On Aug. 25, the Mystics defeated the Mercury 94-84.

Golden State Valkyries vs. New York Liberty Best Bets

Jonquel Jones 15+ Points

For my first bet, I'm locking in Liberty center Jonquel Jones to record 15+ points against the Valkyries.

Yes, I know this is a tough matchup for the Liberty. The Valkyries boast the WNBA's best defensive rating (100.3) and are lethal on the defensive end. The Valkyries are up 2-0 on the Liberty this season, but let's talk about JJ's success.

In two games against Golden State, Jones has soared over this player prop line twice. First, she scored 16 points in 28 minutes. On June 28, she erupted for 21 points in 27 minutes. In those two games, she's averaging 18.5 points, while shooting 55% from the field and 44% from beyond the arc.

Golden State is strong on the interior, but lacks size beyond Kiah Stokes. At 6-foot-6, Jones is averaging 5.8 points in the paint per game. And yes, the Valkyries are unforgiving in the paint, but the good news is that Jones can stretch the floor and move like a guard.

Golden State has a ton of talent including Kayla Thornton, Gabby Williams, Janelle Salaun, and Tiffany Hayes just to name a few. Truly, can anyone stop Jones here, especially given the fact that the Valkyries are on a back-to-back? While the Valkyries are middle-of-the-road when defending centers, Jones is one of the few centers that has found success against Golden State.

Final WNBA Betting Prediction: Jonquel Jones 15+ Points (FanDuel)

I like this prop even more if Jones can stay out of foul trouble. Even though her points scored have been up and down, she's cleared this prop in two of the last three games. And if we want to look at minutes, she's scored 15+ points in 11 games where she's played at least 29 minutes.

• I'm taking Jonquel Jones to score 15+ points today. She's cleared this line twice against the Valkyries this season and has the clear size advantage. Plus, she's averaging 15.2 points in August while shooting 53.8% from the field and 35.7% from three. Jones has been one of New York's top scorers and should be able to stretch the floor tonight. In fact, Jones is shooting 41% from above the break 3, a zone where opponents shoot 36% from against Golden State.

Washington Mystics vs. Phoenix Mercury Best Bets

Washington Mystics -3.5

For my second-best bet, I locked in the Washington Mystics to cover the 3.5-point spread against the Phoenix Mercury.

As mentioned before, the Mystics are locked in as a playoff team whereas the Mercury have been eliminated. Not only is Kelsey Plum questionable to play, but DeWanna Bonner has cleared waivers and signed with the Atlanta Dream. With just 13 wins on the season, it's been a disappointing season for Phoenix.

Meanwhile, the Mystics are a dangerous, young, up-and-coming team. This team isn't driven by one star. It's driven by youth, defense, and grit. Not only does Washington deploy one of the strongest frontcourts with Shakira Austin and Kiki Iriafen, but Sonia Citron is one of the most lethal guards in the WNBA.  This team is also full of bench talent.

Overall, the Mystics are 21-6 ATS and 11-7 ATS on the road. Conversely, the Mercury are 16-22 ATS  and 6-12 ATS at home. Washington is fresh off two wins, and we've seen this team boast an 8-5 record when favored by 3.5 points or more.

In fact, the Mystics are 12-8 ATS against the top 8 teams in the WNBA and are 2-0 ATS against the Indiana Fever alone. So why are they favored by so little tonight?

Phoenix does have home-court advantage, but there's little suggestion that they can keep up tonight. Not only have they lost three straight games, but they've dropped six of their last seven. Over that span, they are 1-6 ATS during that stretch.

Even with injuries and players leaving, the Mercury offense hasn't been atrocious, as they've scored 84+ points in four straight games. Their defense has been an issue, as the Mercury rank No. 12 in defensive rating (109.5).

It's not as if both squads aren't familiar with each other. The Mystics defeated the Mercury 94-84 on the road just two days ago, and that was with Kelsey Plum delivering 10 points in 17 minutes off the bench. The Mercury have Alyssa Thomas and Kahleah Copper, but I don't believe in this supporting cast.

In the last matchup, the Mystics scored 94 points while shooting 51% from the field and 43% from three. Not only did they dominate on the boards, but Iriafen and Austin combined for 34 points and 16 rebounds. Offensively, the Mercury shot just 3-of-17 (18%) from beyond the arc. Two of their five starters combined for just eight points ...

• I'm laying the points with Washington today. They once led by 20 points last game and are 3-0 ATS against Phoenix over the last three games. Washington defeated Phoenix by double-digits in both matchups this season and boasts an average margin of victory of +15 points. Unless Washington completely collapses, I'm riding with them all day.
