WNBA Best Bets (August 9): Wings vs. Lynx, Aces vs. Liberty Odds & Predictions

Four games on the card, as the jockeying for playoff position continues in the WNBA after an intense Saturday.

For the second straight day, we have a blockbuster showdown involving the defending-champion Las Vegas Aces. One day after suffering a hard-fought loss in Minneapolis, the Aces conclude their five-game trip in Brooklyn against the New York Liberty. The game tips at 12:30 p.m. Eastern on ABC.

The Phoenix Mercury visit the suddenly surging Washington Mystics, who have won six in a row and are making a strong push for a top-four seed, sitting just one game back of the fourth-place Indiana Fever. The game tips at 3 p.m. on League Pass.

The first-place Minnesota Lynx are also on the second day of a back-to-back, as they host the seventh-place Dallas Wings, who are on a two-game slide and in jeopardy of dropping into eighth place. A Liberty win combined with a Dallas loss would drop the Wings one spot from seventh. The game begins at 3:30 p.m. on NBC.

The last game on the card finds the second-place Golden State Valkyries traveling south in California to visit the scrappy Los Angeles Sparks, who are still playing with the intent of making the postseason. The game will be televised on ESPN beginning at 7 p.m.

Las Vegas Aces at New York Liberty

After overcoming a 20-point deficit on the road and defeating the Indiana Fever in overtime with a pair of buzzer-beating 3-pointers from Chelsea Gray in both regulation and the extra frame, the Aces were unable to replicate the feat against the Lynx. The Aces cut a double-digit lead to four points in the final two minutes of the third quarter, but it wasn't enough, as they lost for the second time on their current trip.

Las Vegas, which is now 13-5 on the road, has lost three of its last five away from home. The Aces have the second-highest scoring offense on the road with 92.8 points per game on a league-best .495 shooting. They also rank first with 23.1 assists and third on the road with 34.8 rebounds per contest.

The Liberty have won three in a row, but the victories came against non-playoff teams. In fact, during a 5-1 SU run, the five victories came against teams that wouldn't make the postseason if it started today, while the lone loss was a 104-99 defeat to the Aces in Las Vegas.

My Best Bet Prediction: Las Vegas +9.5 (-104)

• The Aces are 8-1 SU and 7-2 ATS after a loss this season and arrive in Brooklyn catching nearly double digits. Chelsea Gray, A'ja Wilson and Jackie Young are all designated as questionable for today's game. It's hard to imagine all three will be held out of an important game, and with the Liberty stepping to the court mired in a 1-8 ATS skid, this is a number too big to ignore.

Dallas Wings at Minnesota Lynx

• Spread: Dallas +7.5 (-110) | Minnesota -7.5 (-110)
• Moneyline: Dallas (+235) | Minnesota (-300)

Dallas has followed a six-game win streak with a 2-5 skid that has seen the offensive-minded Wings average 86.6 PPG, three points less than what they were scoring in the 25 games prior. Their efficiency has also dipped, as they were shooting .464 and are now shooting .455 in the last seven games.

The Lynx have certainly enjoyed the return of Napheesa Collier, who is averaging 19.3 points and 7.2 rebounds since making her season debut on July 22. Rookie of the Year frontrunner Olivia Miles hasn't missed a beat, either, as she's averaged 21.7 points, 5.3 assists and 4.7 rebounds per game since finally playing alongside the face of the Lynx.

Today marks the fourth clash between the top two rookies of the 2026 class, and it's been Miles and the Lynx getting the best of Azzi Fudd and the Wings. Minnesota, which has won seven straight meetings, is 3-0 in this year's series with an average winning margin of 12.0 points per win. The Lynx are also 2-1 ATS in this year's meetings.

My Best Bet Prediction: Dallas +7.5 (-110)

• This will mark Minnesota's first back-to-back situation, so gauging how the Lynx will respond after Saturday's emotional win over the Aces remains to be seen. Though Minnesota has covered three of its last four, it's failed to cover 11 of its last 14 games. The Wings, who have failed to cover six of their last nine overall, have also failed to cash tickets in nine of their last 12 road games. That said, with both teams bringing sketchy ATS skids to the Target Center, somebody has to cover this game, and I'm backing the underdog off a day of rest and a must-win mindset.
