Sabrina Ionescu and the New York Liberty (21-11, 8-7 away) will square off against A'ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces (18-14, 10-5 home) tonight. A rematch of the 2023 WNBA Finals, it was Vegas who defeated New York in four games to capture their second WNBA Championship in franchise history.
Plus, who doesn't love a good head-to-head coaching matchup featuring New York's Sandy Brondello and Las Vegas's Becky Hammon? New York is barely hanging onto the second seed at 21-11. Three games behind them in fifth, the Aces are just 1.5 games back of the Phoenix Mercury for the fourth seed. With the season 3/4 over, each and every game matters for both teams.
The sportsbooks are predicting a close matchup tonight, giving the nod to Vegas as slim 2.5-point spread and -145 moneyline favorites. With a matchup at home, they get the Liberty, who are on the second half of a back-to-back on their west coast trip. Capturing the 105-97 victory over the Los Angeles Sparks Tuesday night, the Liberty have won four of the last five matchups.
While the future looked bleak mid-season, the Aces are trending upward, winning four straight games, thanks to A'ja Wilson. Speaking of, Wilson is coming off a historic game, becoming the first player in WNBA history to record a 30-point, 20-rebound game against the Connecticut Sun. With Wilson back and surging in MVP talks, the Aces are rolling.
Noticeably absent tonight will be Breanna Stewart, Nyara Sabally, and Isabelle Harrison for the New York Liberty. With that, newly signed Emma Meesseman and Jonquel Jones should have a larger role carved out against Wilson and NaLyssa Smith. Is tonight the night Sabrina Ionescu bounces back for a big performance?

OVER/UNDER (TOTAL)
Liberty ATS Record: 16-16
Aces ATS Record: 15-17
My first best bet for today, I placed one unit on the Las Vegas Aces to cover the 2.5-point favorable spread against the New York Liberty.
Down 2-0 against New York in the regular season series, I am more than aware how poorly and inconsistent the Aces have been this season. Not only is New York 2-0 ATS, they hold a +23 point differential in those two matchups. In both, Vegas has failed to score over 78 points.
While many question A'ja Wilson and the Aces this season, they are riding a four game winning streak, in which they covered three straight spreads against the Golden State Valkyries and Seattle Storm. Over their streak, the Aces hold an impressive +42 point differential over that span!
Now they are 2.5-point spread favorites, in which they have a 13-11 ATS as the preferred team. Plus, they are facing a New York Liberty team who will play their second straight game in less than 24 hours! Compare that to an Aces team, that hasn't played since their 94-86 defeat over the Connecticut Sun on August 10.
Fully rested, the Aces are 6-1 off two days rest, and have arguably been playing their best stretch of basketball this season as of late.
During their streak, the Aces have surged to No. 1 in offensive rating (116.3) over that span, averaging 91 points per game! Scoring 90+ points in three of those four victories, they've also maintained a decent defensive presence. No. 5 in defensive rating over four games, the Aces held the Valkyries to consecutive games under 80 points.
Post All-Star break, this is a different Aces team. Not only have they improved vastly on the offensive end, this is a team that looks rejuvenated. 7-3 in 10 games post All-Star, Las Vegas is averaging 85.1 points per game, which is nearly five points more prior to the break. There's only been increases in shooting efficiency, including production on the boards.
Of course, I have A'ja Wilson in my MVP conversation, and I expect her to continue the heavy lifting. Even though Jewell Loyd has struggled to find her footing, she's starting to settle into a role. We saw how dominant this team can be with Wilson, Chelsea Gray, Jackie Young, and Loyd combining for 78 points in their victory over the Storm.
The Aces success depends on those around Wilson, as we've seen Young erupt for an average of 20 points over the last four games. We've seen Gray and Loyd disappear at times, and Jewell Loyd has been much more productive off the bench.
Overall, the Liberty are a top top tier team however, they are vulnerable. Without Breanna Stewart, they will miss much needed spacing, scoring, and rim protection. Now, their frontcourt get's even thinner without Nyara Sabally and Isabelle Harrison.
This week, we saw the Liberty get routed by the Lynx, 83-71, and mind you, that was without Napheesa Collier. Emma Meesseman is a strong addition, however, New York has struggled with turnovers. Over the last four games, they hold the third-highest turnover percentage (15.8 %), and Ionescu has struggled to find her footing as of late on the offensive end. Over the last four games, she's averaged just 12.3 points per game.
We've seen the Liberty unable to cover spreads against the Wings, Sun, and Lynx. Although this game is predicted to be much closer, the Liberty are just 3-11-1 ATS on the road.
GP: 28 | PPG: 22.2 | FG: 49 % | FT: 84 % | 3PT : 28.9 % | REB: 9.6 | AST: 3.4 | STL: 1.6 | BLK: 2.1
My second best bet for today, I placed one unit on Las Vegas Aces star A'ja Wilson to record over 22.5 point against the New York Liberty.
Standing firm in my MVP conversation alongside Napheesa Collier and Alyssa Thomas, Wilson has been on a tear. Recently earning her 25th Player of the Week honors, she's coming off a historical 32-point, 20-rebound performance against the Connecticut Sun.
We know Wilson has dealt with injuries, and has been trending upward ever since. During the Aces four game run, not only does A'ja have three 25+ point performances, she's averaging 28 points over that span!
Not to mention, Wilson has seen some serious uptick in usage, averaging 24.5 FGA over the last two games. Logging heavy minutes for Becky Hammon, Wilson has soared over this player prop line in four of the last five games.
Since the All-Star break, A'ja has seen significant increase in scoring efficiency, shooting 50.3 percent from the field, 41.7 percent from beyond the arc, and 88.5 percent from the charity stripe. Plus, she's averaging 21.9 points through 10 games post break.
Wilson doesn't have the easiest of matchups today. The Liberty allow the fourth fewest points to centers, and Wilson has moved to the five following the acquisition of Nalyssa Smith.
However, there's a lot in her favor. Sure, she has to go through Jonquel Jones and Meeseeman, but the Liberty will roll with just nine players. Without Stewart, the Liberty lose a ton of length and rim protection, and they have lacked in that area as of late.
Last matchup against New York, Wilson went down with injury, recording two points in just 14 minutes. In the season opener, she exploded for 31 points in the Aces 92-78 loss in Brooklyn. In 36 minutes, A'ja tallied 16 rebounds, and went 11-22 from the field, and 8-8 from the free-throw line.
GP: 5 | PPG: 14.6 | FG: 51.8 % | FT: 86.7 % | 3PT: 50 % | REB: 5.4 | AST: 4.0 | STL: 1.0 | BLK: 1.2
My third best bet for today, I placed one unit on New York Liberty forward Emma Meesseman to record over 14.5 points against the Las Vegas Aces.
Considered one of the most decorated players in the world, Meesseman couldn't have signed with the Liberty at a better time. At 6 foot 4, I'm expecting head coach Sandy Bronello to heavily lean on both Meesseman and Jonquel Jones today.
Against the Aces, on primetime television? The Liberty need all the help they can get, and Meeseman has been a consistent scoring threat for them. Through five games, she's averaging 14.6 points, and is coming off a massive 24-point performance against the Sparks last night.
The Sparks had trouble containing Meesseman, and helping when it came to the mismatch. Soaring over 14.5 points just once in five games—Meesseman has her role carved out for her tonight.
Although the Aces added Smith, this is a good matchup for Meesseman, since the Aces give up the fifth most points to forwards. She's been an x-factor, as the Liberty are 4-1 since she's joined the team.
Overall, Meessman should feast tonight, and her usage has only increased. Logging a season high 32 minutes last night, she shot a team high 9-15 from the field. Aforementioned, the Liberty will only have nine players available tonight. Losing Isabelle Harrison will only put increased usage on both Jones and Meesseeman.
A true pro, Meesseman is a six-time EuroLeague Champion, and three-time MVP for a reason. Consistent since her arrival, she's shooting an efficient 51.8 percent from the field, and 50 percent from downtown.
Don't let her 6 foot 4 frame fool you, Meesseman can score anywhere on the court. Plus, she gets an Aces team, who allow the fourth most paint points per game (36.8).
