The Atlanta Dream and the Chicago Sky hope to return to the win column when both teams battle for supremacy on Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at the Gateway Center Arena in College Park, Georgia.
Losers of four of their last five, the Dream has been having a so-so June, only winning three of its 11 games.
Following their upset win over title contenders Connecticut Sun on June 29, Atlanta found itself on the back of the New York Liberty’s comeback victory. After leading by as many as 16 points in the first half, the Dream was unable to sustain its momentum in the second half, ultimately losing by six.
They will go up against a Chicago Sky team, who is coming off back-to-back losses against the Las Vegas Aces and the Minnesota Lynx.
Like the Dream, the Sky has also won three games in the month of June, resulting in them to further drop into ninth in the standings. What’s worse for the Sky, though, is they lost to the same Dream squad last month.
Will the Sky finally get over the hump and beat the Dream? Will the Dream tighten their hold of the seventh spot as we head into the mid part of the season? Plenty of questions should be answered after this game but for now let’s look at how the current Atlanta Dream vs. Chicago Sky betting lines stand.
The Atlanta Dream has been a middle-of-the-pack team this season. But if there is one thing to like heading into their match against the Sky is that they have actually beaten the Chicago Sky earlier this season.
Now, they return home after a short two-game road trip and take on a Chicago Sky team that hasn’t won a road game since May. After beating the Liberty 90-81 in New York last May 23, the Sky has lost three consecutive on the road.
If that’s not bad enough, the Chicago Sky is currently riding a two-game losing streak and has only won three of their last 10 games.
For Atlanta to extend their against-the-spread (ATS) win streak to three straight, they will need guard Alisha Gray and the 35-year old Charles to step up against a potent Chicago team.
In their last matchup with Chicago, Parker-Tyus tallied 18 points, four rebounds, and four assists while shooting seven-out-of-12 from the field.
Albeit an injury to Elizabeth Williams, the Chicago Sky heads into the game much healthier than the Atlanta Dream. The Dream is expected to miss the services of guards Rhyne Howard and Aerial Powers, who combined for 21 points and 13 rebounds in their last matchup against the Sky.
With Howard and Powers out, expect guards Marina Mabrey and Chennedy Carter to impose their dominance and capitalize on the absence of the Dream’s backcourt duo.
Considering that the Dream is the worst scoring team in the league, the absence of Howard should hurt them even further, especially since they are taking on a Chicago Sky team that is one of the best defensive teams in the league.
Chicago, on the other hand, is 3-4 ATS on the road.
Although it’s not impressive by any means, the absence of two of the Dream’s offensive firepower will most likely make it less challenging for Chicago to cover the spread at this current Atlanta Dream vs. Chicago Sky odds.
Plus, Chicago also has the manpower down low to limit Tina Charles in the name of rookies Kamilla Cardoso and Angel Reese.
The 22-year old Reese has been nothing short of impressive this season, averaging 13.5 points and 6.4 rebounds per game this season while Cardoso is no slouch either with season averages of 8.9 points and 7.3 rebounds.
Considering the form of the Atlanta Dream and the Chicago Sky, this is one of those games that could go either way.
This is a risky pick considering that the Atlanta Dream have beaten the Chicago Sky in their last five meetings.
Another play I will be looking at is the under 159.5 at -110. Over their past six meetings, the Chicago Sky and the Atlanta Dream have averaged a total of 157 points.
