WNBA Player Props (August 14): Best Bets, Odds & Predictions Featuring Caitlin Clark

Just two games on the WNBA card for Friday night, with the spotlight showdown taking place in Indianapolis in the early game.

The short-handed Dallas Wings visit the Indiana Fever in what could end up being a lopsided game with the guests missing three key pieces to the lineup. Missing from Dallas will be Azzi Fudd (knee), Aziaha James (leg) and Jessica Shepard (ankle), leaving much of the heavy lifting to Paige Bueckers and Arike Ogunbowale.

Not an ideal road trip to be missing players, as the Wings head to San Francisco for a battle with the defensive-minded Golden State Valkyries on Monday. The Fever have won seven of their last nine and continue to boast the No. 1 scoring offense in the WNBA, averaging 96.2 points per game. Tip-off is set for 7:30 p.m. Eastern with the game being broadcast on ION.

Evening Matchup Featuring Portland and Seattle

The late game finds the Portland Fire and Seattle Storm in another battle for the Pacific Northwest, as the two meet for the fourth time this season. The expansion Fire have won the first three meetings, winning by an average margin of 5.6 points per victory. While Seattle has nothing to play for as the only team officially eliminated from the playoffs, the Fire are sitting in ninth place, 6.5 games behind the New York Liberty for the eighth and final spot in the postseason.

The Fire arrive after having their two-game win streak snipped by the league-leading Minnesota Lynx on Wednesday in a tight 85-81 decision. The game will tip at 10 p.m. on ION.

Arike Ogunbowale OVER 16.5 points (-130)

In missing Jessica Shepard (14.2), Azzi Fudd (13.1) and Aziaha James (6.1), that's 37.5% of the Wings' scoring absent against the highest-scoring team in the league. And since Paige Bueckers leads the Wings in scoring this season, with 20.1 points per game, it's not too difficult to figure out who the Fever will focus their defense on in this game.

Arike Ogunbowale is the team's second-leading scorer, with 14.6 PPG. She is averaging a career-low 12.1 FGA per game this season, but could end up with a season-high tally from the floor if the Fever zero in on Bueckers. The four-time All-Star and 2020 scoring champion has attempted 13 or more shots 14 times this season, and in those games is averaging 20.5 PPG. She comes into Friday's game after a 21-point performance against the Toronto Tempo on Wednesday. She's also averaging 18.7 PPG in 19 career appearances against Indiana.

Caitlin Clark OVER 9.5 assists (-110)

Caitlin Clark has served 10 or more assists in six of her last nine games, and could turn in a season-best total in this one. She's averaging 8.2 assists per game, but since July 17, she's seen that increase to 9.3 per contest. And, again, Dallas is short-handed, which means Clark has a huge opportunity to get whoever is on the court involved every time down the court. Though she had just seven assists in her lone game meeting with Dallas this season, she's averaging 11.8 assists in five career games against the Wings.

It doesn't hurt that the Fever have seen their offense explode of late, going from 93.3 PPG through 22 games, to an average of 101.2 PPG over their last 12. During that first stretch, their top four scorers not named Caitlin Clark — Kelsey Mitchell, Aliyah Boston, Sophie Cunningham and Monique Billings — were averaging 55.1 PPG. Since then, that quartet is averaging 62.8 PPG on 22.8 made field goals. That's a whole lot of assists for Clark to serve.

Bridget Carleton OVER 16.5 points (-114)

With Sarah Ashlee Barker out for the season, and Carla Leite questionable with a sore knee, the Fire have to get their scoring from someone. That would be Bridget Carleton, who ranks second on the team with 14.7 PPG and has scored 16 or more points in four of the last five games — including 24 or more in three of them. Most importantly, in three games against Seattle this season, she's averaging 20.6 PPG.

Carleton, who competed in the 3-point contest at WNBA All-Star Weekend, has been on a heater from behind the arc since July 18, averaging 4.0 3-pointers the last eight games. In the three games against the Storm this season, she's tallied a combined 12 3-pointers, also an average of 4.0 per clash. This certainly sounds like an over play from beyond the arc. But I'm not interested in laying -180 to go over 2.5. I'd rather bank on her to turn in another 20-point performance, bare minimum.
