Key Points
  • There are four Commissioner's Cup games on the schedule for Saturday.
  • Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever are 3.5-point underdogs as they head to New York to face the Liberty.
  • Player prop bets involving Clark and New York's Jonquel Jones are intriguing heading into Saturday's matchup.

While the Golden State Valkyries and Las Vegas Aces will be fun to watch in their matinee clash at Michelob Ultra Arena, I'm much more interested in tonight's game at Barclays Center, where Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever visit the New York Liberty.

The Fever snapped a two-game skid with Thursday's 83-71 home win over the Atlanta Dream, while the Liberty ride a three-game home streak into the final tilt of a seven-game homestand.

WNBA Best Bets: Saturday's Top Player Props

Though the Fever just knocked off Atlanta, both them and the Liberty are still chasing the Dream in the Eastern Conference. The Liberty are a half game behind the Dream, and a half game in front of Indiana in the conference.

The Liberty took three of the four meetings last season, including the last two by double digits, while the home team has been victorious in six of the last seven meetings.

Here are my top three picks, including the game winner:

(Odds via FanDuel)

New York Liberty -3.5

I have to believe the Liberty have had this game circled, as this has seemed to become the matchup every team wants to win. And New York couldn't have asked for a better time to welcome the Fever, as it impressively answered a three-game skid with three straight wins. Sure, those victories came against the Phoenix Mercury (twice) and the expansion Toronto Tempo, but based on how the Liberty opened the season, those were much-needed wins.

The three-game win streak came via an average of 10.6 points per win. Since May 27, the Liberty scoring defense ranks No. 1 in allowing just 74.7 points per game. I'm reaching on a limb here, but I do believe pro cities can be contagious. So to conclude, I do think the Liberty will feed off Friday night's energy from the Knicks' win in San Antonio, and the NBA Finals arriving in New York for Games 3 and 4, and feed off the home crowd vibes.

Caitlin Clark UNDER 18.5 points (+100)

Indiana's sharpshooter is averaging 17.2 points per game against the Liberty during her career, the fifth-lowest against all opponents she's faced at least three times. In six career games against New York, she's scored 19 or more three times.

The problem I have with this one is that the team has flat-out said Clark will remain on the injury report, most likely listed as probable. Is that for a convenient last-minute gametime decision to rest her, or is it because of her back. Two nights back in the team's win over Atlanta, coach Stephanie White said she was "gassed" when asked about the guard reportedly throwing up ahead of the second half.

The team just traveled to San Francisco and Portland for two games in three days, returned home for Atlanta, and with one day to rest, now play in Brooklyn. Her assists may be high, but she'll struggle to find her shooting touch.

Jonquel Jones OVER 25.5 points + rebounds + assists (-125)

The former MVP is coming off a 22-point, 17-rebound performance against Toronto, and could follow that with another big game if the Fever focus their energies in the paint on Breanna Stewart. Jones has had her Windex a lot lately, cleaning the glass with 11 or more rebounds in three of the last four games.

Since May 25, Jones is averaging 15 points, 12 rebounds and three assists. That would certainly get us what we need with today's number. Historically, she should get there, considering she's averaging 15.4 points, 8.8 rebounds and 2.1 assists across 29 career games against Indiana.
