The Phoenix Mercury (9-4) are set to face the New York Liberty (10-1) in a back-to-back matchup. Coming off an 83-75 victory over the Sun in Connecticut Wednesday night, the Mercury will travel to Brooklyn, where they are tabbed as massive 10.5 point spread underdogs. With their third game in five games, Phoenix is in the midst of a four-game road stretch. There's good news on the horizon— the Mercury have their big three back in Satou Sabally, Alyssa Thomas, and Kahleah Copper. While all are ramping up their minutes, perhaps their biggest test comes tonight.
10-1 on the season, the Liberty are fresh off a gritty, come-from-behind victory over the Atlanta Dream. With back-to-back 30+ point games by Sabrina Ionescu, it's the first of her career. Mind you, New York is without Leonie Fiebich (Eurobasket), and Jonquel Jones continues to ramp up after an ankle injury. Today, Liberty guard Natasha Cloud will face her former team, which traded her in the offseason. New York head coach Sandy Brondello will once again square off against the team she coached for eight seasons.
For the late-night showdown, Caitlin Clark and the Indiana Fever (6-5) will face the Golden State Valkyries on the road. Tonight kicks off a three-game road stretch for Indiana, which has found itself in the headlines as of late. 2-0 since Caitlin Clark's return from injury, how can we forget the physical matchup against the Connecticut Sun? Now 4-1 in their last five games, the Fever are heavy -750 money line favorites on the road. The Valkyries lead the WNBA in home attendance (18,064) in their inaugural season, and will get another matchup in the Bay tonight.

GP: 6 | PPG: 21.3 | FG: 44.7 % | FT: 75.9 % | 3PT : 40 % | REB: 5.5 | AST: 8.7 | STL: 1.3 | BLK: 1.0
My first best bet for today, I placed one unit on Indiana Fever star guard Caitlin Clark to top the made threes leader vs the Golden State Valkyries.
There's no doubt Clark is in the MVP conversation, and is averaging 21.3 points per game. Through six games, we've seen her explode for 27, 32, and 20 points against the Dream, Liberty, and Sun.
As we've seen on national television and college—Clark isn't afraid to shoot from deep. Contested or non contested, we saw her torch New York for nine points in under 45 seconds.
Clarks 3-point line is set at 3.5 tonight, however, I wanted to switch things up. Clark has gone bonkers over the last two outings with 20 three point attempts against the Sun and Liberty.
In those games, the former Iowa standout is 58.4 percent from beyond the arc. No. 22 hasn't dipped below 50 percent from deep over the last two outings.
Despite missing five games with a quad injury, Caitlin Clark averages the second most 3-pointers per game behind Rhyne Howard with 9.2 3PA. Leading the Fever in scoring (21.3 PPG), 3PA (9.2), and 3PM (3.7), 40 percent from three is a career-high.
Notorious as one of the WNBA's fiercest competitors, maybe we will see Clark hit some deep logo threes today. Either way, she has a prime matchup against the Valkyries.
Overall, Golden State is allowing the fourth highest 3-point percentage to opponents this season (34.1 %). In addition, they rank No. 10 in threes per game with 26.4!
I'm not saying Clark will go nuclear on Golden State today—they have some defensive juggernauts in Kayla Thornton and Veronica Burton.
However, despite ranking third in the WNBA in threes per game (29.7), the Valkyries rank dead last in 3-point percentages this season (27.2 %).
There's no doubt Golden State has some flamethrowers in Janelle Salaun (40 %) and Tiffany Hayes (35.7 %). However, they lost Cecilia Zandalasino, Salaun, along with several other players to Eurobasket. Overall, the Valkyries have 10 players who are currently shooting 26.3 percent and under from the 3-point line.
Not to mention, this is a dangerously solid Fever team on the defensive end. No. 3 in defensive rating (95.8), they are the top defensive perimeter team this season (26.1 %).
GP: 8 | PPG: 13.4 | FG: 46.8 % | FT: 65.5 % | 3PT : 43.8 % | REB: 10.3 | AST: 2.6 | STL: 0.6 | BLK: 1.1
My second best bet of today, I placed one unit on New York Liberty center Jonquel Jones to record a double-double against the Phoenix Mercury.
Jones has returned from an ankle injury, and is coming off a 10-point, 10-rebound performance in Tuesday's victory over the Dream. Joining Angel Reese as the only two players to average a double-double this season, here's why I like this player prop today.
Averaging 13.4 points and 10.3 rebounds on the season, Jones is one of the most dominant centers in the WNBA. Her ability to stretch the floor, yet provide security on the glass is unmatched.
Sabrina Ionescu has been on a tear with back-to-back 34 point performances. With that has decreased Jone's scoring production. Either way, Jonquel has scored at least 10+ in all games but one (Jones was injured vs the Mystics). Plus, she's notched a double-double in six of eight games.
Overall, we've seen Jones record a double-double against top teams. The Dream have a dynamic duo of Brittney Griner and Brionna Jones. In addition she recorded double-doubles against the Sun, Mystics, Fever, and Aces.
With Ionescu's big performance, there's no doubt Jone's shot attempts have dipped. If we look at the stats, they are slightly screwed. Sure, Jones shot 4-10 from then field against Atlanta, including 2-4 from three point range. We can't take too much account into the fact Jones had only 8 shot attempts against the Mystics and Sun. Jones played just six minutes after getting injured against Washington, and 4-7 against Connecticut in a historic blowout victory.
Jones is averaging the most boards since the 2021 season when she was a member of the Connecticut Sun. Without Leonie Fiebich in the lineup (Eurobasket), New York loses quite a bit of length and versatility. This is where I think Jones can make up ground.
Today, the Mercury get Alyssa Thomas and Natasha Mack back, however Kahleah Copper has been ruled out for tonight's matchup. With that said, the Mercury have been one of the more surprising teams on the defensive end. Limiting centers to 11.2 points per game, the Mercury allow the fourth most rebounds per game (35.4).
The Mercury held Tina Charles to just 1-5 from the field, but rookie Aneesah Morrow exploded for 16 points and nine rebounds against Phoenix.
Jonquel recorded a double-double last matchup in just 25 matchups, and the Liberty get the Mercury who are off a back-to-back. Although Mack is back, Phoenix lacks a true dominant center.
My third best bet for today, I placed one unit on the Indiana Fever to cover the large 11.5 point favorable spread against the Golden State Valkyries.
At 5-6, the Valkyries have prove they can hang in games under head coach Natalie Nakase. The newest expansion franchise in the WNBA, the Valkyries looked a bit flat in their last 80-71 loss against the Dallas Wings.
There's no doubt the Valkyries have lost some players to Eurobasket, the Valkyries recently announced the signings of Laeticia Amihere and Aerial Powers and Bree. Plus, Tiffany Hayes has returned to the lineup for Golden State. Heres the downside and reality of the situation—the Valkyries lost Janelle Salaun, Cecilia Zandalasini, Julie Vanloo, and Temi Fagbenle to Eurobasket.
The Valkyries may not have bona fide star player, however, Kayla Thornton has led with Valkyries team in every which way. The team's leader in scorer, the offense isn't potent. Especially with key players out today.
We've already seen Golden State come up with impressive victories over the Storm and Aces. Not to mention, they've covered Large 10, 7.5, 12.5, 14.5 (twice), and 10.5 underdog spread this year. 7-4 ATS, the Valkyries are 4-1 ATS in front of their home crowd.
With that, I truly feel this is where the Valkyries next player up mindset stops. I'm not taking the Fever will destroy the Valkyries, but they are clicking on all cylinders. Now they have their sniper in Caitlin Clark back, who's responsible for facilitating the offense.
With Caitlin Clark back, this is a team that's averaging 95 points per game over the last two outings. With players missing, both teams are trending in the opposite directions. The Fever are headed to the Commissioner's Cup Championship, and boast the third best defensive rating in the WNBA (95.8). In addition, Indiana is fourth in offensive rating (105).
As for the Valkyries, the offense has been abysmal. Ranking No. 11 in offensive rating (95.9). Golden State ranks No. 7 in defensive rating (98.8). Over the last two matchups, they've failed to eclipse over 76 points.
