It's Tuesday, and there are two HIGHLY anticipated matchups on the WNBA slate!

Breanna Stewart New York Liberty

(Photo by Catalina Fragoso/NBAE via Getty Images)

The New York Liberty (24-16, 8-11 away) will square off against the Golden State Valkyries (21-18, 12-7 home) in the Bay. Listed as questionable, Sabrina Ionescu has remained out with a toe injury since August 25. Now with Breanna Stewart back, this is a Liberty team that's coming off an 80-63 loss against Alyssa Thomas and the Phoenix Mercury.

With a 24-16 record, the Liberty have a 1.5 game lead over the Valkyries for the fifth seed. 4-6 in their last 10 games, they continue their West Coast road trip. Plagued with injuries, the reigning champions have hardly resembled a title team as of late. Today, they are tabbed as 6.5-point spread and -250 moneyline favorites on the road.

Having made history in their inaugural season, the Valkyries are above .500 in their first season under Coach of the Year candidate Natalie Nakase. Having dealt with several injuries, Golden State gets a boost to its frontcourt now that Monique Billings is off the injury report.

The Valkyries will still face their challenges since Cecilia Zandalasini, Tiffany Hayes, and Kayla Thornton are out with injuries.  Winners of three straight games, this is a crucial game for Golden State. Sitting at the sixth seed, they hold a half game lead over the Fever.

Caitlin Clark Remains Sidelined For The Indiana Fever With Groin Injury

Tonight, the Indiana Fever (21-19, 10-10 away) will face the Phoenix Mercury (25-14, 14-16 home). The Fever remain without Caitlin Clark, who's missed 28 games with groin and quad injuries. Having lost Sophie Cunningham, Sydney Colson, and Aari McDonald to season ending injuries, forward Chloe Bibby has been ruled out today.

Amid several injuries, the Fever have managed to stay alive under first-year head coach Stephanie White. Holding the seventh seed, this is a must win for the Fever. Large 7.5 point-spread and +250 underdogs on the road, Indiana will have nine players available, unless they extend Shey Peddy's hardship contract.

Given they are coming off a 75-63 loss against the Valkyries, the Fever are 4-6 in their last 10 games, and will face a dominate Mercury team that's won four straight games. With the regular season series tied 1-1, the Mercury clinched a playoff berth, and hold the fourth seed.

Both matchups are high stakes with the WNBA season coming to a close. Each and every games will count toward playoff seeding and standings.

WNBA Best Bets For Tuesday, September 2

Player Prop Bet #1: Alyssa Thomas

Alyssa Thomas 2025 WNBA Stats

GP: 34 | PPG: 15.8 | FG: 53.9 % | FT: 70.4 % | 3PT: 0  % | REB: 8.9 | AST: 9.2 | STL: 1.6 | BLK: 0.5

  • OVER 23.5 Points + Rebounds (-140 DraftKings)

My first best bet for today, I placed one unit on Phoenix Mercury star Alyssa Thomas to record over 23.5 points and rebounds today against the Indiana Fever.

Thomas remains in the MVP conversation alongside Napheesa Collier and A'ja Wilson. Although Thomas is a long shot to win the award at +10000 odds on FanDuel, I'm expecting her to have a massive performance today.

Having already clinched a playoff berth, the Mercury continue to fight for playoff seeding. Just a half game back of the Atlanta Dream and Las Vegas Aces for the second and third seed, every game matters for Phoenix.

Playing some of the most elite basketball of her career, Thomas has been incredibly consistent. Averaging career-best stats in points per game (15.8), and assists per game (9.2), Thomas is shooting a personal best 53.9 percent from the field.

The WNBA's assists leader, Thomas ranks third in rebounds per game (8.9 RPG). Nearly averaging a triple-double every night, she leads the league with seven this season, and averages more rebounds than Kiki Iriafen, Kamilla Cardoso, and Aliyah Boston.

Don't let Thomas' point total fool you. She is one of the most productive two-way players in the league, averaging the most assists (9.2 APG), and third-most rebounds per game (9.9 RPG) in August.  Not to mention, she ranks sixth in overall field goal percentage in the entire league (53.9 %).

Why Alyssa Thomas Deserves 2025 WNBA MVP Consideration

Thomas is a ferocious player who will beat anyone in transition, down hill, or coast to coast.  Looking at her statistics the last 10 games, Thomas has been outstanding. Averaging 15.7 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 9.5 assists, she's well cleared this player prop line over that span.

Not only has Thomas been extremely durable since returning from injury this season, she's logging heavy minutes for head coach Nate Tibbetts. Over the last five games in particular, she's recorded two triple-doubles alone against the Sparks and Valkyries!

Against Los Angeles, Thomas erupted for 12 points, 16 rebounds, and 15 assists. Against the Valkyries on August 22, she exploded for 13 points, 12 rebounds, and 16 assists.

Over the last five games, Thomas, nicknamed "the engine," is averaging 14.2 points and 10.5 rebounds per game.

Now she gets a decent matchup against the Indiana Fever, who additionally are in the midst of playoff contention. Without Caitlin Clark and several other players, Thomas has cooked against the Fever this season.

Recording 18 points and 11 rebounds against Indiana on August 7, Thomas had 32 points and 15 points against them on July 30. In two head-to-head matchups against them, she's averaged 25 points, 13 rebounds, and 8.5 assists.

Averaging 38 points and rebounds against the Fever this year, this is a strong prop bet for several reasons. This is an prime matchup for Thomas, given the Fever allow the second-most points and fourth-most rebounds to forwards.

Named WNBA player of the week for the second time this season, Thomas gets a Fever team that ranks in the bottom of the rankings on the boards. Averaging the ninth fewest rebounds per game (33.6 RPG), they allow the second-most paint points per game (40.1).

Final WNBA Player Prop Betting Prediction: Alyssa Thomas OVER 23.5 Points + Rebounds (-140 DraftKings)

This is a dream matchup for Thomas, who averaged 11.1 paint points per game, and should be effective on the fast break (3.3 points per game). The Fever allow over 10 opponent fast break points per game, and Thomas is shooting 47.4 percent in the paint, and 66.7 percent in the restricted area.

While Boston has been more effective on the boards, the Fever lack rim-protection despite Boston and Natasha Howard in the frontcourt.

With injuries, the Fever lost their defensive prowess. Over the last five games, they've slid to tenth in defensive rating (108).

  • I'm taking Alyssa Thomas to record over 23.5 points and rebounds today. Both the Mercury and Fever love to push the pace, so therefore, I'm confident in this bet on DraftKings).

Player Prop Bet #2: Breanna Stewart

Brenna Stewart 2025 WNBA Stats

GP: 27 | PPG: 18 | FG: 46.3 % | FT: 82.6 % | 3PT: 21.8  % | REB: 9.0 | AST: 3.6 | STL: 1.4 | BLK: 1.3

  • OVER 14.5 Points (-140 DraftKings)

My second best bet for today, I placed one unit on New York Liberty star Breanna Stewart to record over 14.5 points against the Golden State Valkyries.

Back after missing several games due to a knee injury, it seems head coach Sandy Brondello has increased Stewart's minutes. While Stewart is having somewhat of a "down" year from a betting perspective, 14.5 points is a bit low. However, we have to account the month missed due to injury.

Stewart is one year removed from the WNBA MVP, and is more than capable of putting up 20+ points. If Sabrina Ionescu is unable to lace up, I love this prop even more. Even if she does, I'm not expecting Ionescu to play heavy minutes.

This is a crucial game for New York, who can clinch a playoff spot with a victory over the Valkyries. Either way, I'm expecting Stewart to log at least 27 minutes today.

Recording 14 and 12 minutes against the Mercury and Mystics, bettors have to take into account both matchups were large spread blowouts. In her return back from injury, Stewart recorded 19 points in 21 minutes in the Liberty's 81-79 victory against the Connecticut Sun.

Why Breanna Stewart Can Clear This Player Prop Bet Today

I'm not expecting a large margin of victory for either team, meaning I expect Stewart to remain a vital part of the offense.

Given the last two games weren't close in points, Stewie averaged just nine field goal attempts in both. However, she's historically performed well against Golden State this year.

Monique Billings is off the injury report, although it's unclear if she will remain under minutes restriction for Golden State. This would be a massive break for Stewart, who's scored 24, 27, and 23 points in three head-to-head matchups with the Valkyries this season.

I'm not saying I'm expecting Stewart to break out for 30+ points. Despite the Valkyries limiting forwards to the least amount of points per game, that hasn't been as issue for the former UConn standout.

Whether or not Stewart is 100 percent healthy, we've seen A'ja Wilson (34 points), Satou Sabally (19 points), Napheesa Collier (24 points), and Dearica Hamby (20 Points) have success against the Valkyries this season.

Final WNBA Player Prop Betting Prediction: Breanna Stewart OVER 14.5 Points (-140 DraftKings)

I would still rank Stewart in that tier of players, given she was once again voted an All-Star this year.

The Valkyries are a gritty team, the points won't come easy. However, missing three players is crucial on the defensive end, especially Kayla Thornton. Along with Temi Fagbenle, the Valkyries have size in Iliana Rupert and Monique Billings.

  • With an important game on the line, I'm taking Breanna Stewart to record over 14.5 points per game. Averaging 24.7 points per game against Golden State this year, this line is well below what she is capable of producing..  In their first team matchups, Stewart went 23-25 from the free-throw line. This may be in Stewart's favor since the Valkyries allow 18.2 free-throw attempts per game.

Best Spread Bet: New York Liberty vs Golden State Valkyries

Liberty Record ATS: 14-25-1, 3-15-1 away
Valkyries Record ATS: 25-14, 14-15 home

  • Golden State Valkyries +6 (-114, +110 FanDuel boosted)

My third best bet for today, I placed one unit on the Golden State Valkyries to cover the six point spread against the New York Liberty. For plus money (+110 odds), this bet has great value. It's important to note I did use a 25 percent boost on this bet.

It's truly difficult to fade a team that not only gets a home game, but has a 25-14 spread record, and 14-15 home spread record.

Compare that to the Liberty, who have been dreadful covering this season. 14-25-1 ATS, the Liberty are just 3-15-1 covering the spread on the road!

New York has hardly maintained its championship image from last season, in large part to injuries. Even so, we've seen a lack of interior defense and high turnovers in games.

Why The Golden State Valkyries Can Cover The Spread

It's the next player up for the Valkyries, and this is why Natalie Nakase is considered a strong Coach of the Year candidate.

Although New York is 3-0 against Golden State this year, the Valkyries covered large 9.5 and 14.5 point (underdog) spreads. Although they haven't faced one another since June 25, both rosters are dramatically different.

For New York, Sabrina Ionescu is questionable, and Nyara Sabally remains out For Golden State, Tiffany Hayes and Kayla Thornton (OFS) are out.

Despite being without two of their top scorers in Thornton and Hayes, Veronica Burton has stepped up dramatically, and remains a top Most-Improved Player candidate. Riding a three-game winning streak, Iliana Rupert is coming off a career-high 21 points with five 3-pointers.

While the Liberty are favorites, the books are not predicting a close game. I think otherwise, given the Valkyries boast the fourth best net rating (10.3) over the last five games. Compare that to the New York Liberty, who have a -2.7 net rating over that span.

Final WNBA Betting Prediction: Golden State Valkyries +6 (+110 FanDuel)

The Valkyries hold a massive international presence on the roster, and player such as Janelle Salaün and Kaila Charles have been snipers from beyond the arc.

Defense has been their mantra all season long, and Golden State ranks fifth in defensive raking (100.1). They've held the Fever and Mystics under 64 points in back-t0-back matchups, and get a Liberty squad who will play their third game in six days.

  • Aside from victories over Washington and Connecticut, New York's offense has been dreadful. Scoring 63 points and under against the Mercury and Dream, I truly don't trust them right now. Plus, if Ionescu is out, I expect the line to narrow even more. I'll lay the points with the Valkyries. 7-2-1 ATS, expect their defense to carry.
