Paige Bueckers will return to her home state, where the Dallas Wings (0-2) will get another rematch with the Minnesota Lynx (2-0). Set to take on the finals runner-up on the road, the Wings are massive 12.5 point spread underdogs. Conceding to the Lynx 99-84 in last week's matchup, Minnesota won't be an easy feat. With victories over the Wings and Sparks, this is the largest point spread of the season for the Lynx. The Wings are fresh off a 79-71 loss, in which the offense couldn't get in sync.
For the late-night matchup, the Golden State Valkyries (0-1) will host the Washington Mystics (2-0) at home. Drawing in over 18,000 attendees on opening night, the Valkyries are the newest WNBA franchise. Having suffered an 84-67 home opener loss against the Sparks, Golden State couldn't overcome Kelsey Plum's 37 points. Plus, the Valkyries struggled to find any sort of offense aside from Tiffany Hayes and Temi Fagbenle.
The Mystics are rebuilding, yet they are extremely entertaining to watch. With two gutsy come-from-behind victories over the Connecticut Sun and Atlanta Dream, rookies Sonia Citron and Kiki Iriafen are extremely pro-ready. Don't sleep on the Mystics—they are 5.5 point favorites on the road tonight.
Last, the Phoenix Mercury (1-0) will host the Los Angeles Sparks (1-1) in the Valley tonight! No Kahleah Copper and Natasha Mack— no problem. The Mercury steamrolled the Seattle Storm 81-59 in the season opener. They are now 5.5 point favorites against an ailing Sparks team. Already without Cam Brink, LA will be without Rickea Jackson and Rae Burrell.
Team vs Team | Moneyline | Spread | Totals |
---|---|---|---|
Dallas Wings vs Minnesota Lynx | +525 / -750 | +12.5 / -12.5 | O/U 167.5 |
Washington Mystics vs Golden State Valkyries | -210 / +170 | -5.5 / +5.5 | O/U 162.5 |
LA Sparks vs Phoenix Mercury | +190 / -235 | +5.5 / -5.5 | O/U 160.5 |
With three highly anticipated WNBA matchups on the slate, welcome back! Looking to finish out May strong, I've placed all bets as separate wagers.
For the first matchup, the Wings and Lynx will tip off at 8 p.m. ET. The remaining games—featuring the Mystics vs. Valkyries and the Sparks vs. Mercury—will begin at 10 p.m ET.
Below are my three best bets and player prop picks for the Wednesday, May 21 WNBA matchups!
Are you looking to bet on WNBA player props all season long? Here at Ballislife Bets, we've gathered a complete list of the best sports betting offers here.
GP: 2 |PPG: 14.5 | FG: 41.7 % | FT: 88.9 % | 3PT : 25 % | REB: 6.0 | AST: 5.0 | STL: 1.0 | BLK: 1.0
My first best bet for today, I placed one unit on Wings rookie Paige Bueckers to record over 4.5 rebounds against the Minnesota Lynx. After an ugly first matchup with the Lynx, Bueckers returns to her home state!
Although a guard, Bueckers is listed at 6 feet tall. No. 5 among all WNBA guards with 6.0 assists per game, Bueckers joins a Wings team that's been inclined to start NaLyssa Smith and Myisha Hines-Allen in the frontcourt.
Although a small sample size, Bueckers has 14 rebounds in two WNBA games–tallying seven against the Seattle Storm, and six against the Lynx. The probable return of Alanna Smith will help Minnesota on the boards. Even so, the Lynx will continue to miss Kayla McBride, who's notorious for chasing boards.
Similar to years past, the Wings are a top five team on the boards (38.5 RPG), and are ranked No.4 in offensive rebounding percentage. Although the Wings took the loss, it was encouraging to see Dallas win the battle on the rebounds against the Lynx last week, 33-31.
After all Bueckers first WNBA bucket came off a second chance put back in the paint against Minnesota. In addition, we saw Bueckers grab rebounds not only over two Wings players—but over Jessica Shepard and Napheesa Collier.
Overall, the Lynx held the Sparks to just 29 rebounds, yet Minnesota hasn't put up monstrous numbers on the glass. With the current rebound player prop set at 4.5, Bueckers season average is well above that. With Dallas winning the second change point battle 15-7, the starters alone had 22 boards.
Dallas is coming off the second highest rebound total of 44 against Seattle in the WNBA this year. Not to mention, that's not an easy task—especially against one of the best frontcourts in the WNBA (Nneka Ogwumike, Ezi Magbegor).
GP: 2 |PPG: 27 | FG: 52.9 % | FT: 85.7 % | 3PT : 33.3 % | REB: 6.0 | AST: 1.0 | STL: 1.0 | BLK: 2.0
My second best bet for today, I placed one unit on Mercury star Satou Sabally to record over 22.5 points against the Los Angeles Sparks.
The Phoenix Mercury impressed, defeating the Seattle Storm 81-59 in their season debut. Not to mention, Sabally led all scorers with 27 points in 26 minutes.
This is why the Mercury signed Sabally via free agency in the offseason. A force on both sides of the ball, Sabally was confident in pull up threes and Seattle simply gave her too much space. Her teammates understand how to screen for her—which can make all the difference in the world.
Not only that, but we saw Sabally attack inside not only over Alysha Clark, but over Li Yueru. Not healthy with the Dallas Wings last season, Sabally is back. A versatile scorer in so many ways, I'm expecting her to have a night!
The Mercury are expected to continue to be without Kahleah Copper and Natasha Mack in the lineup, which means more opportunities alongside Alyssa Thomas. While the Mercury have some solid rotational players in Sami Whitcomb, Kathryn Westbeld, Sevi Uzun, and Alexis Held— expect Thomas and Sabally to carry the team.
After all, Thomas and Sabally combined for 47 of the Mercury's 81 total points against Seattle. In fact, Sabally alone accounted for 33 percent of the offense! Through one game, Sabally leads all Mercury in scoring, field goal attempts (17 FGA), and 3-point attempts (9.0 3PA). Given Thomas isn't an outside shooter, expect Sabally to let it fly from beyond the arc.
Overall, Sabally gets another home matchup in the Valley against an ailing Sparks team. Without Cam Brink, Rickea Jackson, and Rae Burrell, the depth is limited.
Against the Sparks, the frontcourt duo of Alanna Smith, Napheesa Collier combined for 41 points. Plus, the Sparks allow the Lynx to shoot 47.9 percent from the floor, and 40 percent from deep!
With nine players available, the Sparks will heavily lean on Kelsey Plum and Dearica Hamby. Not to mention, rookie Sarah Ashlee Barker.
Over the years, Sabally has increased her 3-point shooting astronomically. Although suiting up for 15 games last season, her three-point attempts have skyrocket from 5.9 attempts to 9.0.
Since drafted by the Dallas Wings in 2020, Sabally has averaged over 17.9 points over the last three seasons including this year. Her best career in Dallas came in 2023, where she averaged 18.6 points in 38 games. Without Copper, it's up to Sabally to continue to take charge.
My third best bet of today, I placed one unit on the Sparks vs Mercury matchup to total under 161.5 points.
Both teams have yet to hit the over in three combined games this season. Aforementioned, the Sparks will be without Rae Burrell, Cam Brink, and Rickea Jackson.
While Kelsey Plum and Dearica Hamby are expected to carry the offensive load, this is a Sparks team that's only averaging 79.5 points per game.
The reason why I am sold on the under is the amount of injuries on both sides. With the Mercury averaging 81 points per game, they boast the top defensive in the WNBA with 59 opponent points per game.
While one game is a tiny sample size, the Mercury limited the Storm to 17.6 percent beyond the arc, and 33.3 percent from the field. Mind you, this is a Seattle team that's complete on both sides of the ball. The question remains—were the Storm completely out of sync or are the Mercury this good?
Either way, I don't expect a ton of scoring with multiple stars out on both teams. The Mercury rank dead last in the WNBA in pace. With that the Sparks trail right behind, ranking no. 11 in pace.
Turnovers were a problem for the Mercury (14), so Los Angeles may get some easy buckets there. Overall, the Sparks are shooting just 43.1 percent from the field, and have hit three straight under total points since last season. In two games against the Lynx and Valkyries, both games soared over 161. total points.
For the Mercury, their only regular season game against the Storm totaled 140 points. Overall, the Sparks offense hasn't looked stunning outside of Plum, and I question the Mercury's ability to carry the offensive outside of Sabally and Thomas.
