The stage is set: Game 3 of the first round between the No. 7 Wings and No. 2 Valkyries will dictate who will advance to play A'ja Wilson and the Aces in the semifinals.
Under head coach Natalie Nakase, the Valkyries finished with the WNBA's second-best record of 32-12 and boasted the regular season's best defense led by Veronica Burton, Gabby Williams, and Kiah Stokes. While only in their second WNBA season, the Valkyries have quickly become the blueprint for WNBA expansion teams.
Heading into the first round, the Valkyries finished as the second seed and swept the Wings 3-0 in the regular season. Holding the Wings to 80 points and under in each of the three games, Golden State posted an average point differential of +12.3 per game.
Someway, somehow, the Wings are still alive after losing Azzi Fudd, Sug Sutton, and Alanna Smith to season-ending injuries. Under first-year head coach Jose Fernandez, Dallas made a complete turnaround this season as they more than doubled its win total in 2025. A team that finished with a combined 19 wins across 2024 and 2025, Dallas finished seventh with a 27-17 regular season record in 2026.
Earning back-to-back first-overall draft picks, the Wings selected former UConn stars Paige Bueckers in 2025, and Azzi Fudd in 2026.
The Valkyries were the first-ever expansion franchise to make the playoffs in 2025 but fell short in the first round. Not only did they earn nine more wins than their 23 last season, but Golden State emerged as one of the top teams in the WNBA.
Rather than being led by a superstar or Big Three, the Valkyries pride themselves on defense and grit. It's been a collaborative effort behind Burton, Williams, Stokes, Kayla Thornton, 3-point stalwart Janelle Salaün, Kaitlin Chen, and more.
It's no secret the Wings were massive underdogs heading into the series, and the Valkyries defeated the Wings at home in Game 1, 104-80. Scoring 108 points, Golden State outscored Dallas 37-11 in the second quarter, and five players produced points in double figures.
In fact, the Valkyries' bench scored 40 points alone. Shooting 50% from three, the Wings had zero answers as Paige Bueckers led the way with 21 points, 6 rebounds, and 2 assists. In Game 1, Most Improved Player Jessica Shepard and forward Awak Kuier combined for just two points.
Facing elimination in Game 2, Arike Ogunbowale scored a WNBA playoff-record 45 points, including a game-tying shot in the fourth quarter and 11 points in overtime. Leaving the Valkyries speechless, the Wings dropped 108 points, the most points ever scored against Golden State.
The Wings head into a sudden-death Game 3 as massive 8.5-point underdogs on the road. The Valkyries have the third-best odds to win the WNBA Finals +390 on DraftKings, while the Wings have the longest odds at +7000.

Let's take a look at my three best player prop bets for Wings vs. Valkyries on Friday, Oct. 2. All of my bets can be found at Fanatics, DraftKings, and FanDuel Sportsbook.
There's no way that I'm fading Wings star Arike Ogunbowale tonight. I'm locking in Ogunbowale to score 15+ points in a must-win game.
There's no question that Ogunbowale's scoring has been up and down, but she steps up when it matters most. She's considered one of the premier shot creators and clutch players in the WNBA.
Arike's scoring production took a hit in 2026, but she still put up 15.5 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 3.3 assists per game, while shooting 40.6% from the field and 32.6% from three.
In Game 1, Ogunbowale couldn't get anything going as Paige Bueckers led the way. In 25 minutes, Ogunbowale finished with just 10 points on 2-of-7 shooting and 0-of-1 from beyond the arc. Mind you, she played minimal minutes due to a 24-point blowout.
Arike has no choice to step up tonight as both teams face elimination and the Wings are dealing with crucial injuries. Last game truly showed me why the Wings re-signed her to a multi-year deal in April.
Everyone was watching as Arike Ogunbowale exploded for a WNBA playoff-record 45 points, including a 3-point shot at the buzzer to force overtime. Perhaps the most impressive part of the night was her 11 overtime points and a go-ahead 3-pointer.
And she did so against the top defense in the WNBA, the Valkyries, who boasted the No. 1 regular season defensive rating (99.1). We are talking about a Golden State team that takes pride in the defensive grind. They allowed a league-low 75.1 points per game during the regular season.
Yes, the series moves to "Bahalla," where the atmosphere is loud and electric. Ogunbowale won't have her home crowd behind her, but shot 12-of-23 from the field, 5-of-8 from three, and 16-of-18 from the line in 42 minutes on Wednesday.
Ogunbowale is a three-level scorer: We saw her get buckets off turnovers, beat Burton downhill, and hit contested jumpers over both Burton and Williams. Let's count on her to not score 45, but to at least put everything on the table tonight.
The Valkyries had guards on lock all season, allowing just a combined 33.2 points per game in the regular season. However, Ogunbowale cleared this player prop line in 57% of games this season and is averaging 21.4 points and 4.8 3PA over the last 5 games.
I'm confident with this pick today as Arike Ogunbowale has cleared this player prop line 5 of the last 7 against Golden State. Despite the Valkyries' suffocating defense, Ogunbowale has a career average of 19.0 points per game against them.
Tonight, I'm locking in Valkyries forward Janelle Salaün to record over 14.5 points and rebounds against the Wings.
A native of France, Salaün knows a thing or two about big games. A member of the 2024 French Olympic Team, she's a Ligue Féminine champion. Salaün brings an international two-way presence and is a major X-factor for Golden State. In fact, she's a front-runner to win the WNBA's Sixth Woman of the Year.
In 2026, Salaün made WNBA history for making the most 3-pointers as a bench player and did so with 69 in July. This season, she finished with 93 triples, which is good for top eight in the WNBA.
Salaün brings size and versatility to Golden State's lineup at 6-foot-2. Not only can she shoot from deep, but she also brings incredible defense. In fact, she's also one of the most clutch shooters in the league.
In 40 games, Salaün averaged 12.7 points, 4.0 rebounds, and 22.1 minutes while shooting 42.5% from the floor and 39.2% from beyond the arc.
Yes, Golden State has several scoring options, but Salaün was the second-highest scorer behind Williams this season for Golden State. And yes, I'm aware she's averaging just 7.0 points and 3.0 rebounds in the playoffs.
There's a reason for that: Salaün logged just 21 minutes in the Game 1 blowout, but it's evident that Natalie Nakase trusts her. In fact, Salaün is averaging the third-most minutes per game for Golden State in the WNBA Playoffs (25.5 mpg) behind Williams and Burton.
It's unclear if Game 3 will result in a blowout or if Dallas will hang in, but Salaün put up 11 points and four rebounds in 30 minutes on Wednesday. Shooting 5-of-14 from the field, 0-of-3 from three, and 1-of-2 from the line, Salaün had the second-most shot attempts behind Gabby Williams.
That's encouraging, right? And how many times have we seen Salaün shoot zero threes? It doesn't happen often as she shot 0-of-3 from deep range in just five games this season.
I do think Salaün will hit this mainly from a points perspective as she's scored 11-plus points in 2 of the last 4 games and 10-plus points alone in 3 of the last 5 against Dallas.
Aside from Sheppard, it's clear that Dallas is lacking frontcourt size, even with Awak Kuier. With the amount of crossmatches and switching, I'm expecting Salaün's production to come during non-critical minutes.
It's no secret the Valkyries have scored 100-plus points against the Wings in back-to-back games and Dallas holds the worst playoff defensive rating (126.7) in the WNBA.
I'm confident in this prop if tonight is not a blowout. Salaün is averaging 17.3 points per 30 minutes and she's coming off four rebounds alone last game. Given the Wings injuries, Salaün should have no trouble on the boards as Dallas gives up the third-most rebounds per game (15.3) to forwards.
I'm locking in Valkyries guard Tiffany Hayes to record 8-plus points tonight. At 37, Hayes can be the difference maker off the bench, as we saw her score 21 points in 19 minutes in Game 2.
Hayes often draws fouls and gets into foul trouble herself, but is a tough, gritty player who fits perfectly in Nakase's system. And while she may not play a ton of minutes (17.0), she's been extremely efficient.
In fact, Hayes is averaging the second-most points per game (13.5) on the roster alongside Cecilia Zandalasini. Hayes is one of the best at getting downhill, but can stretch the floor as she's shooting 60% from deep in the playoffs.
Hayes not only cleared this line in 17 games this season but averaged 9.0 points in 42 games. She's the spark plug off the bench and has cleared this line in 5 of the last 7 against the Wings (11.8 PPG).
I'm taking Tiffany Hayes to record 8-plus points tonight. She was limited to just 3 shot attempts last game, but shot 7-of-10 in Game 1. I'm not expecting Hayes to repeat zero 3-point attempts tonight either as she shot 3-of-5 from beyond the arc in Game 1.
