Connecticut and Indiana met four times in the regular season with the former winning three of them. Game 1, however, marked the biggest win of the Sun against the Fever this year.

  1. Sweet shooting guard Marina Mabrey had 27 points off the bench to lead all scorers while versatile forward Dewanna Bonner added 22 to help the Sun secure a 93-69 victory in Game 1.
  2. Connecticut has covered in four of its five meetings against Indiana this year but it is worth noting that the latter has an impressive Against-The-Spread (ATS) away record.
  3. Indiana opened as 7.5-point underdogs as per the current Connecticut Sun vs Indiana Fever betting lines but the line has closed to seven points as of press time.

With Clark possibly playing the final game of its historic rookie season, expect the Fever to come out strong here in hopes of extending their season.

Can the Fever extend it to a do-or-die Game 3 or will the Sun knock them out? That remains to be seen but let’s look at the current state of both teams in this Connecticut Sun vs Indiana Fever sports prediction piece.

Best WNBA odds for Connecticut Sun vs Indiana Fever

  • The Connecticut Sun are currently riding a two-game ATS win streak and have covered in four of the five matchups against the Indiana Fever this season. Pinnacle offers the best Connecticut Sun odds to cover the seven-point spread at -108.
  • The Indiana Fever have beaten the Connecticut Sun once this season. Pinnacle has the Fever to win outright at +270.
  • The under hit in the five of the past seven meetings between the Connecticut Sun and the Indiana Fever. The best Connecticut Sun vs Indiana Fever odds for the under are available on Pinnacle at -106.

Why will the Connecticut Sun cover the spread?

While scoring guard Marina Mabrey led the Connecticut Sun’s offensive attack in Game 1, the offensive explosion of Dewanna Bonner that proved to be the key factor in their victory.

Struggling and failing to reach the 20-point mark in its last seven regular season games, the 37-year old Bonner exploded for 22 points on top of six rebounds and five assists to end a month-long shooting slump.

  • Connecticut’s strong finishing kick proved to be the determining factor in Game 1 as the Sun outscored the Fever 25-12 in the final canto to secure the win.
  • The Sun’s perimeter defense was another thing to behold as they forced the Fever to only make 21.4% of their shots from the outside.

Considering the manner the Sun has beaten the Fever this season, one might argue that the seven-point line at these current odds is somewhat generous.

  • It is worth noting that Connecticut has beaten Indiana by an average margin of 16.5 points this season.

With Mabrey on fire and Bonner seemingly regaining her old offensive form back, there could be value towards backing Connecticut to cover the spread here, especially with the way they manhandled Indiana last time.

Why will the Indiana Fever cover the spread?

The Indiana Fever were right in the thick of things in Game 1 until the dreaded fourth quarter where they found themselves bleeding for offense in the final canto.

Fortunately, they have a chance to rectify their mistakes and beat a well-oiled Connecticut Sun offense. The good news is they’ve done it before.

  • Losing their first three meetings of the year, the Fever made the necessary adjustments and were able to pull off an 84-80 win in their final regular season matchup.
  • It can be recalled that Indiana came in as four-point underdogs in that game and more than covered the spread with a four-point win.

One thing that needs to happen in this game though for the Fever to cover the +7 spread here is to get everyone going, especially Caitlin Clark.

The 22-year-old Clark was only limited to 11 points on a dismal 2-for-13 shooting from downtown in Game 1.

  • In four regular season games against the Sun this season, Clark was every bit as impressive, averaging 16.5 points on 36% shooting from the three-point area.
  • A positive thing Clark can look back on in Game 1 is the fact that she only turned the ball over twice, which is something impressive considering her league-leading average of 5.6 turnovers per game.

Besides getting Clark going, Indiana also needs to find ways to contain Sun forward Dewanna Bonner and guard Marina Mabrey from finding their shooting rhythm or else it would be a long night.

With the Fever’s backs on the line and Clark’s remarkable rookie season possibly coming to a close, expect Indiana to show its fighting resolve and keep the game tight, making the seven-point line an attractive betting spot for some.

Final Connecticut Sun vs Indiana Fever WNBA Prediction: Indiana Fever +7 (-110) Under 163.5 (-108)

On paper, there is no doubt that the Connecticut Sun is talented and has a little more depth than the Indiana Fever. However, it does not mean the Fever cannot hang with the big guns.

Of course, speculating is one thing, actually doing it is another. Rookie guard Caitlin Clark should come into this game with all the motivation in the world, considering her terrible showing in Game 1.

For that reason, I am picking the Fever to cover the spread here in what could end up as a tightly-contested battle.

Another betting spot I am keen on is the under. While Connecticut and Indiana have well-oiled offenses, I expect both teams to tighten the defensive screws here considering the game’s magnitude.
