The Indiana Fever and the Connecticut Sun hope to sustain their winning momentums as both teams clash this Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at the Gainbridge Fieldhouse.
Winners of three of their last four, the Fever is coming off an 84-79 road victory over the Atlanta Dream.
Guard Kelsey Mitchell led all scorers with 29 points while Clark recorded 19 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists for Indiana, which solidified its hold of the seventh spot in the standings.
Up next for the Fever is the red-hot Connecticut squad which clinched a playoff spot after upsetting league leaders New York Liberty 72-64 over the weekend.
- Sweet shooting guard Marina Mabrey scattered 15 points off the bench while Dijonai Carrington and Oliva Nelson-Ododa had 13 and 12 points each for the Sun, which has won four of their last five since returning from the Olympic break.
Connecticut hopes to make it five wins in their last six when it battles an Indiana team which they’ve already beaten thrice this season.
Will the Sun extend its win streak to four or will the Fever have the last laugh in the season series? That remains to be seen but here are the Indiana Fever vs Connecticut Sun betting lines as of press time.

Best Odds for
Indiana Fever
vs

- The Indiana Fever is among the best Against-The-Spread (ATS) teams this season. In 13 home games this year, the Fever sports a league-leading 9-4 ATS record. DraftKings offers the best odds for the Fever to cover the +3.5 spread at -110.
- The Connecticut Sun has beaten the Indiana Fever by an average margin of 14 points in their three encounters this season. Connecticut is available at -110 on FanDuel to cover a -3 spread.
- The under hit in five of the last six matchups between the Indiana Fever and the Connecticut Sun. The best Indiana Fever vs Connecticut Sun odds for the under 165 total is available on DraftKings at -110.
Why will the
Indiana Fever
cover the spread?
The Indiana Fever opened as 4.5 underdogs across several bookmakers, and that has a lot to do with their previous performances against the Connecticut Sun this season. Across three games against the Sun this year, the Fever lost by an average margin of 14 points.
- On the surface, backing Indiana in this game does not seem encouraging considering their recent history with Connecticut.
However, the Fever is a completely different team right now. After losing their first five games to start the season, Indiana has made a complete turnaround and is currently in the thick of the playoff hunt.
- It is also worth noting that those three losses to the Sun came early in the season when Indiana rookie guard Caitlin Clark was still adjusting to the hustle and bustle of the league.
- With Clark getting her bearings and Indiana getting significant contributions from leading scorer Kelsey Mitchell, Indiana has racked up three crucial wins this month to stay two games above the eighth-place Chicago Sky.
- Speaking of Mitchell, the 28-year-old guard out of Ohio State has been going bonkers since returning from the break, averaging 26.3 points on 48.3% shooting from the field.
This is certainly good news for the Fever, who was struggling for offense in their three previous matchups with the Sun earlier this season.
- It can be recalled that Mitchell was only limited to 11.3 points in three games against Connecticut this season.
- With Clark and Mitchell now on target and Indiana’s impressive 9-4 ATS home record, there could be value in picking the Fever to cover the spread at these current odds.
Why will the
Connecticut Sun
cover the spread?
The Connecticut Sun did what seemingly has been impossible this season – beat the New York Liberty at home. Against all odds, Connecticut played airtight defense to hold New York to a season-low 64 points and notch its third win in a row.
- With the victory, the Sun became just the third team to beat the Liberty at home this season.
A huge part of the Sun’s hot streak since returning from the break has been the stellar play of new acquisition Marina Mabrey.
- In their past two games, the 27-year-old Mabrey has averaged 19.5 points while shooting 55.7% from the three-point country.
- Mabrey’s explosion comes at a perfect time for Connecticut, especially with its leading scorer Dewanna Bonner still trying to regain her offensive rhythm.
Albeit that 29-point explosion against the Dallas Wings, the 37-year-old Bonner has been struggling since returning from the break.
- The All-Star forward has only averaged 10.3 points in their four games, which is a far cry from her usual numbers.
- Good thing for Connecticut, though, is Bonner has been historically good against the Indiana Fever this season, averaging just above 20 points a game across three encounters this year.
Should Mabrey continue to shoot the lights out and Bonner regains her old form back, backing the Connecticut Sun to cover the spread at these current odds is a no-brainer.
- While one could argue that both teams are seemingly neck-and-neck as far as talent depth is concerned, the grit and experience of the Sun could be the determining factors in this game.
- It is also worth noting that while the Fever has an excellent ATS record at home, they failed to cover in two of their three matchups against the Sun this season.
Final
Indiana Fever
vs
Connecticut Sun
Prediction: Connecticut Sun -3.5 (-110)
The Indiana Fever is making believers out of doubters with how they are running roughshod against top-caliber teams this month.
However, considering past history and the recent win against the New York Liberty, I am more inclined to believe that the Connecticut Sun is just more of a complete team than the Fever right now.
