After upsetting the Minnesota Lynx last Thursday, the Wings were unable to sustain its momentum dropping two straight double-digit losses to the Seattle Storm, with the most recent being a 24-point loss on Monday.
Crafty point guard Arike Ogunbowale had 21 points while Natasha Howard and Odyssey Sims added 15 and 12 markers respectively for the Wings, who were outscored by the Storm 34-13 in the third.
They will be taking on a Phoenix Mercury squad who is also coming off back-to-back losses to the Indiana Fever and the Connecticut Sun. The Mercury, which has dropped three of their last five games, beat the Wings 97-90 in double overtime last month.
It can be recalled that the Wings blew past the Mercury earlier this season thanks to a 40-point performance by Ogunbowale. With the season series now tied at one apiece, both will look to settle the score as they battle one another in what could be a high-scoring affair.
In this Dallas Wings vs. Phoenix Mercury sports betting predictions, we’ll find out how both teams look heading into the match.
The Dallas Wings have been having a forgettable season. After going 3-2 (win-loss) to start the year, the Wings have dropped 11 straight games.
But if there is one thing to like about the Wings this year is their ability to do the sensational and the spectacular all in one motion.
Heading into their matchup against the Wings, Allen and Taurasi are currently listed as day-to-day, meaning they won’t be 100% even if they play on Wednesday. This is big for the Wings considering that Taurasi has been among the players that gave them headaches in their meetings this season.
With Taurasi’s health a concern for Phoenix, hammering the Dallas Wings to cover the spread looks even more attractive at these current prices.
It is also worth noting that the Wings have beaten the Mercury in four of their last five meetings with an average margin of 11.5 points, which is quite surprising considering where these teams currently are in the standings.
To say that the Phoenix Mercury have underachieved this season is an understatement. With plenty of talent surrounding center Brittney Griner, the Mercury should be better than where they actually are in the standings right now.
But injuries and off-the-court issues have hampered the Mercury’s rise this season with the team currently below .500 and fighting to keep the sixth spot in the standings.
She will be once again the main woman for the Mercury heading into their match against Wings, especially with Taurasi’s injury status still up in the air.
It is also worth noting that when Phoenix lost to the Dallas Wings earlier this season, the Mercury was without starting center Brittney Griner. With the 33-year old Griner in tow, the Mercury should be able to force the Wings into some tough shots, which is a key aspect to beating a Dallas Wings team that is currently the fifth-best shooting team in the league.
This was evident in their 97-90 victory over the Wings last month where the Phoenix Mercury forced them to only shoot 26.1% from the three-point country.
All things considered, picking the Mercury to cover the spread at these odds is something you might want to mull over, especially considering that the Wings have only won once in their past 14 games.
If there is one thing that these two teams have in common is they both love to put the ball in the hoop.
I like the Phoenix Mercury to win outright too but considering how both teams are too unpredictable this season, I will be sticking with the over. It is also worth noting that both teams scored an average combined total of over 167 points in three of their past five meetings.
