Teams like UCLA, UConn, Texas, and South Carolina treated fans to an incredible season and an exciting Final Four. Congratulations to the UCLA Bruins on winning the program's first national championship in the NCAA era. But now that the confetti has been cleaned up, it is time for the inevitable: it's time to start thinking about who's going to win next season.

To that end, we need to take the first step and review the NCAA women's basketball national championship odds for the 2026-27 season at your favorite online sportsbook.
Here are the 2026-27 national championship odds for the top fifteen teams listed on FanDuel's betting board:
Defending champions often open as the betting favorite for the following season, which makes it a little surprising to see UCLA open at +5000. But when you examine the current roster, it is not so shocking. The Bruins had eight seniors (out of 12 players). Every point in the national title game win over South Carolina was recorded by a senior. So, your national championship odds are going to be long when you lose as much talent as UCLA will.
At this stage, there is a solid chance the odds could change for many teams in the offseason. It all depends on who has the better incoming recruiting and transfer portal classes. But with the season just ending, it is too early to see what impact the transfer portal can have.
However, this is also when the odds are bound to be at their longest for many of the top contenders. Unlike the men's game, contenders seldom (if ever) come out of nowhere for the women's national championship. So, if you want to maximize your potential payout, you may want to consider putting something down now.
However, keep one thing in mind: what the transfer portal gives, it also takes away.

No one would fault you if you were to take the easy route here and go with Connecticut or one of the other teams at the top of the betting board. After all, we did just have a Final Four with the same teams as the year before. It is not unusual to see women's teams come back as strong, or even stronger, the following season.
But where's the fun in that?
For my picks, I'll consider every team a fair game with the exception of UConn. With Sarah Strong leading a solid core of returning players, it would be shocking not to see them in the mix. However, at +170 and the offseason still to come, there is no value in betting on the Huskies right now.
On that note, here are my early favorites to win the national championship next season:
I know what some of you are thinking: Really? A team that went 18-14 and lost in the second round. Yes, and I have a very good reason, and her name is JuJu Watkins. The budding superstar missed the last season after suffering a knee injury in the second round of the 2025 NCAA Tournament. She is over a year removed from the injury and is expected to be 100% when practice resumes.
Factor in this past season's leading scorer, Jazzy Davidson, incoming 6-foot freshman Saniyah Hall, and the rest of the Trojans' young, talented roster, and this team will almost certainly be a national championship contender next season.
After two Final Four runs, it would not be shocking to see the Longhorns slip next season, since they have to be losing players after such prolonged success, right? Actually, they are not expected to lose much, and do have one of the best players in the country coming back in Madison Booker.
Losing Rori Harmon will sting, but head coach Vic Schafer has a solid recruiting class coming in that includes three top-20 players (Brihanna Crittendon, Addison Bjorn, and Aaliah Spaight). With such a strong core returning, Texas is bound to be a popular destination for transfer portal talent as well.
For those of you who like to roll the dice on a long shot, give the Commodores some thought. They had the No. 6 offense in the country last season with an average of 84.3 points per game. With Mikayla Blakes and Aubrey Galvan coming back, the Commodores could have another top-10 offense.
But they are losing several role players they'll need to replace, and the defense could use some work. They'll have a solid recruiting class to work with (i.e., Olivia Jones, Jhai Johnson, and Sther Ubakaand) and could still find some help via the transfer portal.
