The 2026 World Baseball Classic begins with games in Tokyo on March 5
Team Japan seeks to defend its title in the 16-team tournament
The World Baseball Classic final will be played in Miami on March 17
It doesn't seem like three years have passed since Shohei Ohtani struck out then-MLB teammate Mike Trout for Japan to win the 2023 World Baseball Classic. But here we are, only days away from another tournament.
This March, Ohtani will once again represent his home country trying to win a record fourth WBC title for Team Japan. But to do so, the Dodgers' superstar will need to get past the U.S. team, which oddsmakers have priced as favorites in the WBC.

Even before the Major League Baseball season begins, fans have a chance to place bets on their favorite sport. For many (including me) the World Baseball Classic is more exciting than the regular season, and on par with the World Series for thrilling competition.
Quick primer on the World Baseball Classic
Here's the most important things to know about World Baseball Classic 2026:
20 national teams compete in four pools of round-robin play from March 5-11 in San Juan, Tokyo, Houston, and Miami.
The top two teams from each pool based on record advance to quarterfinals in a single-elimination format in Houston and Miami.
Quarterfinal winners compete in the semifinals in a one-game elimination at Miami's LoanDepot Park on March 15 and 16.
Finals will be played March 17 at LoanDepot Park.
A few rules to be aware of:
Players can compete for a nation they were either born in, OR are citizens of, OR have a parent who was born in or a citizen of that nation.
Pitchers are under pitch limits (between 65 and 95, depending on the round).

Championship Odds for 2026 World Baseball Classic
DraftKings
has the latest 2026 World Baseball Classic odds available:
The United States has a deep roster led by Aaron Judge, Cal Raleigh, Bobby Witt Jr., Paul Skenes, and Tarik Skubal. Meanwhile, Team Japan return Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and Seiya Suzuki.
Many of the Latin American teams have had difficulty securing some top MLB players due to insurance reasons. Francisco Lindor and Carlos Correa, for example, wished to play for Puerto Rico, but neither were cleared by the insurance company that would have to pay off their lucrative MLB contracts if they were injured.
The U.S., which lost the finals three years ago by one run, are favorites because of an amazing talent-laden lineup:
Bobby Witt Jr. ... SS
Aaron Judge ... RF
Bryce Harper ... DH
Cal Raleigh ... C
Alex Bregman ... 3B
Paul Goldschmidt ... 1B
Kyle Schwarber ... LF
Gunnar Henderson ... 2B
Pete Crow-Armstrong ... CF
Toss in Skenes, Skubal (who will only pitch in pool play), and Logan Webb at the top of the rotation, with Mason Miller as your closer, and the Americans will be tough to beat.
But the WBC has shown that the world has many talented baseball players, and the success of Japan, which has won the tournament three of the five times it's been held, reveals that fact.
Best Long Shot Odds for World Baseball Classic 2026
Japan is an excellent play at +430 if you're seeking long odds for the 2026 World Baseball Classic. Team Japan plays a "team concept," building a roster less about superstars and more about cohesion and depth. The pitching staff is designed to match well against the left-handed power in the U.S. lineup, and to present problems for right-handed free swingers like Judge.
