Now that the Connecticut Huskies have won the 2023 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament, it’s not too early to look ahead to next year’s March Madness.
Oddsmakers are impressed with the dominance displayed by the Huskies on their way to a fifth NCAA hoops title. UConn won all six of their games by at least 10 points, and pulled away from San Diego State University on Monday to win 75-59.
BetMGM Sportsbook prices Connecticut at +1100 to win the title again in 2024. Ditto FanDuel. Over at DraftKings, they tap Duke as the favorite, at +1100, with UConn at +1400.
The last school to repeat as champions was Florida in 2007, under head coach Billy Donovan. In the last five decades, only two teams have repeated, the other being Duke in 1991-1992.
The oddsmakers at Caesars have UConn favored to repeat in 2024, but the odds are +1200. That means a winning $100 bet would pay $1,200. Coming into the 2023 tourney, oddsmakers at Bet365 had the Huskies at +1500 odds to win the NCAA National Championship title.

The Huskies best player, Jordan Hawkins, will likely be a first round pick in the 2023 NBA Draft. But two of their other key players, Adama Sanogo, Donovan Clingan, are both eligible to return for the 2023-24 season. Even without Hawkins, coach Danny Hurley will have the talent in his backcourt from sophomore Emmet Hendry, who could be an All-American once he gets a chance to play.
Then there’s the transfer portal, which serves like a magic supermarket where coaches can shop for whatever they need. Want a big man? Check the transfer portal. Need a three-point shooter? Find one in the portal. The Huskies roster will be familiar this fall when college hoops returns, but it could also be strangely unfamiliar: packed with new talent from who-knows-where.
The Huskies are one of the top programs in the country. Five titles in less than 25 years will go a long way to enticing young basketball players to Storrs. Hurley is one of the emerging superstar coaches in the sport. He’ll be able to point to the rafters to get the attention of young recruits. Six wins in March Madness, big games on the national stage, and competition in the Big East, are all carrots he can dangle to get young hoopers to choose the blue and white of UConn.
