The Seattle Mariners are coming off a series defeat to the Miami Marlins when they head down to Tampa Bay to kick off their three-game series with the Tampa Bay Rays.
With that said, We take a look at this matchup to make a Mariners-Rays prediction and pick.
Seattle Mariners (45-35) surprisingly is coming off a series defeat to the Miami Marlins on the road. They lost two of three in the series and most recently dropped the rubber match with a 6-4 defeat.
They were downed in the series opener with yet another walk-off victory for the Marlins but were also to come back in dominating fashion in the second game of the series with a 9-0 victory before their dreadful loss in Sunday's matchup.
The Mariners are now just 5-5 over their last 10 games and 1-4 in their last five as they head into this match against the Tampa Bay Rays on Monday night.
They will be sending starting pitcher Bryan Woo to the mound who's had mixed success this season.
He gets to take on a Tampa Bay Rays team that surprisingly struggles at home this season.
Woo is going to need some run support unlike he did against the Guardians his last time out and while the Mariners have only been averaging 3.5 runs and hitting just .214 over their last 5 games they still have a good matchup against Taj Bradley who while strikes out a lot of batters also gives up a ton of hard contact.
If Julio Rodriguez (3-6, 1 HR) and Cal Raleigh (1-3, 1 HR) can keep up their hot bats against Taj Bradley in this matchup they should help kickstart this Mariners offense as Woo limits the damage from the Rays and get the much-needed win in this series opener in Tampa Bay.
Tampa Bay Rays (38-40) is surging at the right time with wins in 6 out of their last 10 games and has now won 4 out of their last 5 games. They also took two of three from the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Now, the Rays get to head home to Tropicana Field as they get ready to face off against the visiting Seattle Mariners who come into this series slumping losing against the worst team in the National League the Miami Marlins.
While the Rays have struggled on their home field this could be the matchup that they need to gain some momentum at home in front of their home crowd.
Bradley gets to face off against the Seattle Mariners who strike out more than any team in the Majors at 10.00 per game and they have struck out the 2nd most out of any team in the league against right-handed pitching with a whopping 581 strikeouts.
This should give Bradley ample opportunities to rack up a bunch of strikeouts in this Monday night home matchup.
They will have a tough matchup ahead of them against Bryan Woo but seeing as Woo is not an elite strikeout pitcher this will give the Rays the chance to hit the ball in play.
If the Rays can just give Bradley enough run support he can limit the Mariners' bats who have been struggling at the plate as of late and keep their momentum going on Monday night.
The Seattle Mariners are struggling to come into game one of this road series meanwhile, the Rays are starting to come alive as they head home to welcome the Mariners to town.
With that said, it look like the Rays are starting to come around now after a long road series. Expect Bradley to shut down this Mariners offense and get just enough run support to extend their winning streak to two games.
FINAL MARINERS-RAYS PICK & PREDICTION: TAMPA BAY RAYS (-104)
