With the 2025 MLB season right around the corner, it's about time we take a look at who will rise above the rest of the league to capture the MVP award in their respective leagues.

We'll begin in the American League, where a trio of young offensive talents may be primed for breakout campaigns, as we preview the MLB Futures market.

Unfortunately, the AL MVP market looks like it'll be dominated by the two men atop the odds -- and between Bobby Witt Jr. and Aaron Judge I think there's a very clear choice.
That can be the recipe for an MVP season, sure, but Judge is approaching 33 years of age and coming off a disappointing postseason which will set the expectations very high to begin this season. He's already started slow this spring, hitting just over .100, and on top of that a player who has had injuries plenty of times before will enter with an increased health risk at this age.

Witt does just about everything on the diamond, and with Judge moving over to right field and potentially DHing more this season to fill in for the loss of Stanton, I think these odds are correct.
The shortstop finished fourth in wRC+ last season behind Judge, Soto and Yordan Alvarez, but out-paced the latter in the second half and won't have to deal with Soto or even Kyle Tucker in this race now. This award is his to lose.

Believe it or not, Wyatt Langford found his way onto the top 30 in wRC+ in the American League over the second half of the season with a solid .199 Isolated Power, and he'd be sitting even prettier if he made a bit more contact or simply made it on base more often in any scenario.
Langford owned excellent contact numbers throughout his impressive minor-league career, and I think you want to strike while the iron is hot here.
Β
Langford has all the talent in the world, but seemed to succumb to massive expectations at the beginning of last year after being anointed something of a franchise savior. Clearly he settled in as the season wore on, and now with the benefit of a fresh start and most of his attention being diverted to a new crop of prospects, I expect a big leap forward in 2025.
Team success can have a large say in an MVP race, and Langford should be front and center as this team's projected three hitter. If this is to be the year where he takes a leap, his odds should plummet, and the data will tell you there's a very talented hitter waiting to be unleashed.
Speaking of talented hitters, there may only be one or two better in the American League than Royce Lewis. The former No. 1 overall pick was one of the five best in the league after returning from injury in 2023, but an Opening Day injury derailed what could have been a breakout 2024.
You know the injury risk which Lewis carries, but you should also know this is a guy who came back twice from a torn ACL without losing any of his ability. Minnesota's medical staff has also been incredibly cautious with him -- to the point where he's voiced frustrations -- but in a make-or-break year for this build I wouldn't expect them to keep him on the shelf longer than necessary.
That's a big reason why I like this bet, too -- the Twins are expected to win this division, but they've got no real lead man. If it's to be the season many are anticipating, then Lewis is going to need to flash that MVP form again -- and if he's on the field there is no good argument as to why he wouldn't.
At this number, it simply doesn't make any sense not to bet on one of the best hitters in the game.
