There is the precipice, there is the depths, and then there is the abyss. The Toronto Blue Jays are on the precipice.
But it's a slippery, dangerous slope: Toronto is down two games to none in the American League Championship Series. They must win at least two games in Seattle to avoid being sent packing back to Canada. This is the state of things following two dreadful losses to the Mariners in Toronto this week.

When Seattle entered the American League in 1977, it seemed like a minor league city. The franchise had a logo that didn't seem serious, a ballpark that appeared to be about five times larger than it needed to be for the rabid fans in the city at that time.
But the M's are getting pitching and timely hitting. In the postseason when those two are working, the results are favorable.
In the National League the Dodgers have a 2-0 lead as those teams prepare to shift that series to Chavez Ravine in southern California on Thursday.
Which is why I'm making four betting picks for Blue Jays vs Mariners in Game 3. On Tuesday I was 2-for-5 in my picks for the NLCS, winning $85.
Odds in this betting preview are from BetMGM Sportsbook.
Seattle has scored 32 runs in seven games, or 4.5 runs per game, which is the most of any team remaining in the postseason tournament. The lineup has several dangerous bats, including MVP candidate Cal Raleigh, Eugenio Suarez, Julio Rodriguez, and the ever-flash Josh Naylor.
Don't sleep on playoff hero Jorge Polanco and also Randy Arozarena, who has one of the three highest slugging percentages in MLB postseason history.
There was a time when Shane Bieber struck fear in opposing lineups. There was a time when the righthander won awards (the AL Cy Young Award in 2020). There was a time when he struck out more than 14 batters per nine innings.
He only managed seven starts in his first season with Toronto in 2025. An arm injury has kept the former All-Star from toeing the rubber much. But yet here he is: the most important Bieber for Canada, even including Justin.
He didn't make his debut for the Jays until late August. The fanbase wouldn't be blamed for not knowing much about the thin righty. But, many of the Mariners have faced Bieber several times. Which is why we know Seattle will be able to work deep in counts.
That's why I like the UNDER on outs for Shane Bieber and the Jays in Game 3. Manager John Schneider will have the quick hook tonight: his season depends on keeping this game manageable.
This postseason, Cal Raleigh is hitting like Ty Cobb: a .357 average with 10 hits in seven games.
The Seattle catcher is the focal point of the Mariner lineup. Game 3, with a chance to go up three games to none seems like as good a time as any for the switch-hitter to hit his 63rd jack of the season.

In the regular season, the Mariners ranked fifth in MLB in runs scored in the first three innings, and were also fifth in being OVER runs expected in first two innings.
So far, Toronto's potent lineup has been stymied by the Mariner pitching staff. I suspect the first few innings will be anxious for the Blue Jays, who are quite frankly up against the wall.
