NFL Predictions Sunday: Chiefs vs Falcons Betting Odds and Best Bets on September 22

Publish Date: 09/21/2024
Fact checked by: Allan Howe

With 2 weeks in the books there are nine unbeaten teams left in the NFL and one of those teams in the Kansas City Chiefs.

The Chiefs may have not been clicking offensively just yet this season and now lost their lead running back Isiah Pachecho to injury, they will still look to remain unbeaten when they head out east to Atlanta to take on the Falcons in Week 3.

This should be an exciting game between these two playoff hopeful teams, with that said let's check out our Chiefs-Falcons prediction and pick.

Why The Kansas City Chiefs Will Cover The Spread

The Kansas City Chiefs are looking to do something that has never been done before this season and that is to 3-peat as the Super Bowl Champions. They did get off to a roaring start winning back-to-back games against two of the AFC-division's best the Baltimore Ravens and the Cincinnati Bengals.

  • Patrick Mahomes has had a pedestrian start to the 2024 season with 442 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 3 interceptions through 2 games.
  • The Chiefs defense gave up just 45 combined points against Joe Burrow and Lamar Jackson keeping them in the game to get the close victory in each contest.

The Kansas City Chiefs Are -3 Point Spread Favorites Sunday

The Kansas City Chiefs are still coming into their own offensively with new pieces and they are starting to gel together. However, with the absence of Pacheco players like rookie Carson Steele and veterans Samaje Perine and Kareem Hunt will need to step up in his absence.

  • Carson Steele combined had 3,780 yards and 30 touchdowns from scrimmage in his college career.
  • Atlanta Falcons have given up 161.5 yards per game on the ground through the first 2 weeks of the season.

This bodes well for Patrick Mahomes that if they can get their running game going it will take a lot of pressure off his shoulders. From there, Mahomes can start to light up this Falcons secondary with speedsters Xavier Worthy and Rashee Rice as well as Mahomes' favorite target Travis Kelce.

It will be up to the Chiefs defense to hold this new-look Falcons offense with Kirk Cousins at the helm in check as Mahomes and company come away with the victory in Atlanta to remain unbeaten on the road.

Why The Atlanta Falcons Will Cover The Spread

The AtlantA Falcons didn't start off the year so hot dropping Week 1 to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Kirk Cousins and this new-look Falcons' offense looked anemic under the new coaching staff that Raheem Morris runs as they scored just 10 points against that Steelers defense that had them in shambles all game.

However, in Week 2 the Falcons came out with a purpose when they took on the Philadelphia Eagles. They were down early against the Eagles but turned it up in the second half just squeaked out the 22-21 victory in Philadelphia.

Now, the Falcons get to head back home and welcome Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in time in hope of scoring the upset.

  • Kirk Cousins has thrown for 396 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions through the first two weeks of the season.
  • This Falcons defense held both the Steelers and Eagles to just 39 combined points.

As Cousins became more healthy and confident with the play calling and supporting cast around him he looked like the Cousins we saw thrive in Minnesota.

After throwing just 155 yards, 1 touchdown, and 2 interceptions against the Steelers, Cousins came back against the Eagles throwing for 241 yards, 2 touchdowns, and 0 interceptions.

While the offense is still in need of some gelling together, they seem to be finding their groove. The Cousins to Drake London combination looked exactly how many Falcons fans hoped it would look against the Eagles and Bijan Robinson is starting to finally ramp it up.

They have a lot riding on this game going against the defending Super Bowl Champions as they look to avoid having to dig themselves out of a 1-2 hole to start the season. This Falcons team has the pieces on offense and on defense to make this a very difficult game for Mahomes and the Chiefs as they look to come through with the victory on Sunday Night Football.

NFL FINAL CHIEFS-FALCONS PICK & PREDICTION

What a great way to end football Sunday for Week 3 with a matchup between playoff-hopeful teams as the defending champions the Kansas City Chiefs head out on the road for the first time this season to take on the Atlanta Falcons.

While the Chiefs will need to trek across the country for this game, they should still walk away victorious in this matchup. If it wasn't for some very questionable calls on the Eagles part the Falcons would be 0-2 coming into Week 3.

This will be no easy game for Mahomes and the Chiefs but they have enough firepower on both sides of the ball to get this win and cover the spread.
