NFL week 3 is approaching, and I have some fun player prop bets for Sunday! First touchdown scorers is a unique, risky, yet exciting way to make some coin.
If you're betting on the NFL and want to improve your betting game, you've come to the right place. While these types of bets require the average bettor to think outside the box, it's a pleasurable bet to place.
While the slate of games isn't the most exciting, I've compiled my three best bets for first-touchdown scorers. All with great value, I've selected a rookie tight end, a backup running back, and an elite veteran receiver.
If you plan to make some bets on the NFL this Sunday, this type of prop can be incredibly precarious, especially if a bettor is placing high units on a play.
However, who doesn't love a potential payout? Especially when your favorite player scores the first touchdown of the game. Let's dive into my top first touchdown predictions for Sunday, September 22!
I'm brave this week, placing half a unit on Raiders rookie tight end Brock Bowers to score the first touchdown Sunday against the Panthers. Embrace yourselves NFL bettors, the next generational talent is here.
An elite receiver at Georgia, all signs point to the standout tight end having a standout rookie season. As we saw in week 1, Bowers torched the Ravens defense for 98 receiving yard on nine receptions.
While his stats are surely impressive, it's Bower's hands and route running that stands out to me. It's not everyday a rookie tight end smokes Marlon Humphrey up the middle for a first down.
Not to mention, Gardner Minschew and Bowers connected for a 25 yard gain all the way down to the one. Had the entire Ravens team not tackled Bowers, the tight end would have found the end zone.
It's not often you see chemistry between a quarterback and a rookie tight end flourish right before your eyes. A solid veteran under center, it's clear that Bowers becoming a favorite target for Minschew.
Trailing behind star receiver Davante Adams by one target, Bowers been thrown to 17 times.
Although we are only through two games of the NFL season, Bowers has been flawless in running short routes over the middle, especially through several defenders. There were several times against the Ravens and Chargers, the former Bulldog was found wide over the middle on numerous occasions.
That's what makes this +1000 odd first touchdown scorer so appealing. While I'm anticipating Adams will be lined up with Jaycee Horn, Bowers should have a prime matchup.
With the Raiders 1-2 in first touchdown opportunities this year, they are a team that has a 50 percent touchdown rate in the red zone. With Minschew averaging a touchdown pass per game, they face the Panthers, who allow 2.5 thrown touchdowns per game in the red zone.
While some bettors are banking on Andy Dalton to bring the Panthers back to life, it doesn't change the landscape of their defense.
This is a Panthers team that allowed Saints tight end Foster Moreau to find the back of the end zone starting at the five yard line. Even better, New Orleans tight end Juwan Johnson scored as well.
This next prop is one of my favorites! I'm betting on Seahawks running back Zach Charbonnet to find the end zone first against the Dolphins. With Seattle back Kenneth Walker III listed as doubtful, all signs point to Charbonnet as the matchup favorite first touchdown scorer.
As we head into week 3 of the NFL, 24 running backs have scored first, which makes me love this player prop even more.
A substantial uptick in snap count, we saw Charbonnet plow through the Patriots d-line for the one yard touchdown.
Yes, Charbonnet struggled, rushing for a total of 38 yards on 14 carries against New England. Yet to truly have that breakout game, you have to credit the Patriots defense. Stifling against the run, there's wasn't much production from the former Bruin.
As a big fan of Charbonnet from his college days, I see why the Seahawks drafted him in the second round.
Although the Seahawks haven't nearly been efficient in the red zone, it's been Charbonnet that's had at least two rushing attempts from the 20 yard line. Though he's been inefficient, averaging 1.5 yards per attempt, there's good news on the horizon!
Seattle gets the Dolphins, who's defensive unit should be on the field more than anticipated. With Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovaioloa out with a concussion, it will be Skylar Thompson under center.
With one career touchdown, I envision the Dolphins offense becoming stagnant.
One of the biggest letdowns of the NFL season, the Miami Dolphins defense hasn't lived up to par.
Yet in another possession, Cook read Miami's man defense extremely well, and was found wide open inside the 20 for the touchdown. Needless to say, Miami's defense isn't stellar. After watching that career performance, it's the Dolphins that's allowed opponents to score 83 percent of the time in the end zone.
Saving the best for last, I have Buccaneers receiver Chris Godwin to score the first touchdown against the Broncos on Sunday. Back to full health, Godwin has certainly rejuvenated his career after suffering an ACL tear in 2021-2022.
In fact under new offensive coordinator Liam Coen, Godwin seems to be adjusting to his new role in the slot just fine. Formerly an outside receiver, it's pretty evident Godwin's a bonafide stud no matter where he lines up.
Receiving a hefty amount of targets, Godwin should have a favorable matchup with the Broncos, especially since Patrick Surtain II will likely cover Evans. If that's the case, expect Mayfield to let it fly to Godwin. Although Denver's defense isn't the worst I've seen, they couldn't stop the Seahawks if they wanted to.
A team that's scored a touchdown in the first two games, we can't forget how Godwin torched Commanders Mike Sainristil for a four-yard touchdown in week 1. K
Overall, Chris Godwin is one of my favorite receivers to bet on, who's won me a ton of coin previously. Given receivers are the highest percentage of first touchdown scorers, both Evans and Godwin have both found the end zone.
Although Denver's yet to give up a touchdown to a wide receiver, Tampa Bay has proven they can score in the red zone, especially throwing the Ball. High in the standings with the Saints, look for Mayfield to air out the ball plenty Sunday.
With one long target inside the 20, Godwin now get's a chance against a Denver defense that hasn't given up a ton of passing touchdowns. With a new role on the offense, don't let the defense get caught in the crosshairs of Godwin.
Aging like fine wine, Godwin's game is more crisp than ever. With significant target volume and chemistry with Baker Mayfield. I'll take this prop for +700 odds.
