The Texas Rangers come into this series finale with the Seattle Mariners looking to avoid the sweep after dropping the first two games of the series by a combined 3 runs. They hope the third time is the charm as they look to cash in as the underdog before heading home.

As for the Mariners, they are streaking at the right time winning six out of their last seven games, and are looking to complete the sweep against the Rangers which is something they couldn't accomplish against the White Sox in their last series. With that said, We take a look at this matchup to make a Rangers-Mariners prediction and pick.

Texas Rangers

Texas Rangers (33-37) are not playing their best baseball right now losing six out of their last 10 games and now are on the verge of getting swept by their divisional rivals the Seattle Mariners this Sunday afternoon. The Rangers thought they'd gain some momentum coming into this series after taking two of three from the Los Angeles Dodgers but that momentum wasn't long-lived.

The Rangers got a solid outing from their Andrew Heaney who allowed just three runs in 4.2 innings but Nathan Eovaldi couldn't keep the Mariners off the scoreboard as he was four runs in just 3 innings.
The Rangers send Dane Dunning (4-5, 4.80 ERA) to the mound in hopes they can change their fortune around. Dunning has pitched well over his last five games with a 2-3 record and a 2.80 ERA.
However, he was roughed up mightily against the Dodgers in his last outing giving up six runs in just 3.2 innings.

Luckily for Dunning, he's got a better matchup ahead of him with the Mariners who strike out the most out of any team on a per-game basis.

Also, the Mariners have been slumping at the plate as they are just averaging 3.7 runs and a .185 batting average per game over that span.

While the Rangers haven't been doing a great job of putting runs on the scoreboard just averaging three runs over their last five games but they have been hitting the ball better than the Mariners despite losing their last two games.

If Dunning can keep this Mariners team in check, the Rangers have the chance of getting back on track and avoiding the sweep before heading back home.

Seattle Mariners

Seattle Mariners (42-31) are playing their best baseball right now with wins in six out of their last seven games on the backs of some great pitching from their starting staff. Their starting pitching has gone at least six or more innings in each of their last four games keeping them in their games.

The Mariners have been taking it to the slumping Rangers as they've been doing a great job at limiting their bats early on and getting after their starting pitching. This has made the Rangers need to make a comeback in each of the first two games of the series, making it difficult for them to overcome.

They send Logan Gilbert (3-4, 3.19 ERA) to the mound in hopes of getting the same production from him as they did with George Kirby and Luis Castillo in the first two games of this series.
Gilbert is coming off a good outing against the Chicago White Sox where he allowed three runs on six hits and no walks while striking out eight batters over 6.2 innings in a no-decision.

He now gets a struggling Texas Rangers team that hasn't been lighting up the scoreboards as we've been accustomed to seeing from them. Just barely scoring three runs per game over their last five they should end up struggling against a solid pitcher like Gilbert on Sunday afternoon.

It's going to be up to the Mariners to give Gilbert much-needed run support as they look to keep the good times rolling and sweep their divisional rivals.
