Perrenial Portuguese table toppers FC Porto host to in-form Premier League team Arsenal. While Porto plays great in their league taking on the second-place English team is a different kind of animal and no team in their league is comparable to this Arsenal side. So while they have shown that they have the ability to win winning in this situation is not going to be easy.
I mentioned that Arsenal is an in-form Premier League team but that's not giving them the credit that they deserve. Currently sitting in second place in English top-flight soccer they have been dominating opponents lately. Their last five games saw them win 5-0, 6-0, 3-1, 2-1, 5-0. Yes, you read that right, they are putting up five and six-goal shutouts.
While Arsenal has most of the advantages they are on the road here but other than that not much is in Porto's favor. Arsenal will want to win this first leg so I see them pushing the pace of play and scoring goals. Lay it with Arsenal in what should be a high-scoring, one-sided game.
One of last season's hottest European teams Napoli takes on La Liga powerhouse Barcelona in what could be the best match in this round of UEFA Champions League. Last year this would have been a must-watch match with the way these two teams were playing. If you don't remember Napoli was scoring at will and Barcelona just couldn't lose.
But now Napoli sits in ninth place, on their third coach of the season. Napoli was lucky and got a good draw in the early rounds of this season's Champions League which has helped them reach the Round of 16. They could be in trouble here taking on a Barcelona team in good form who has their full attention focused on their Champions League draw.
Barcelona has been playing some great soccer lately. They've won three out of their last four matches and have scored 12 goals in their last five games. They have been a bit leaky at the back allowing goals in four of their last five and Napoli's new coach will probably look to make a statement when hosting this La Liga team so they'll be looking to score. I think Barcelona is susceptible to other teams scoring, especially when they've been allowing goals against lesser Spanish opponents. This Italian side should be able to do the same.
These two teams will be looking to score early and often and with Napoli at home and under a new coach, I think they'll for sure get on board. While Barcelona are playing the better brand of soccer right now I'm not sure they'll have enough to take down this Napoli side.
