There are many bets to be made at this year's Super Bowl between the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles. Some are silly, some are tough, and some seem much easier. That’s certainly the case with both teams scoring 10+ points in the first half.
However, the bet is not as straightforward as it first might seem. Scoring is something that happens a lot in the NFL, but the Super Bowl is a strange time. Sometimes the touchdowns come early, and sometimes it takes a while for everything to get going.

Both teams in Super Bowl LIX have strong offenses, but they are also both happy to rely on their defense and grind out the game. Despite that, the statistics show they are both more than capable of finding the endzone multiple times before the half.
The Eagles averaged 13.1 points in the first half of all of their games this season. Not only that, but they’ve averaged 16.7 points in the first half during their last three contests including a 27-point effort against the Commanders.
Those numbers put them well above the 10 point mark. The Chiefs do a decent job against the pass and have a strong secondary, but they are rather weak up front. Even in their recent wins, opponents have been able to run all over them in a variety of ways.
That’s an important note because the Eagles have one of the best run attacks in the league. Saquon Barkley is coming off a historic season, and Jalen Hurts is also a great rusher in his own right. They both find the endzone quite a bit too.
Taking that into account, along with the Eagles first-half scoring ability and the Chiefs weak run defense, the Eagles should get over 10 points in the first half.
While the Patrick Mahomes-led Chiefs won their previous two Super Bowls on a high-powered offense that threw the ball down field and scored in droves. This season has been a bit different. They are still winning, just doing it in a more muted way.
The Chiefs like to grind games out, which typically means being content to score every once in a while and let their defense handle the load. The statistics back that up as well.
This season Kansas City has averaged 12.9 points in the first half this season. That’s a good jump up from the 10 mark, but those numbers are down to 11.3 over their last three contests. Both of those numbers suggest they don’t score as much as they used to.
Even so, the Chiefs always seem to find ways into the endzone early. They love to strike on their first drive, and are going to need to take some shots if they want to beat Philadelphia. They will likely get more than ten points, especially because Harrison Butker is such a reliable kicker.
Taking the above information into account, it seems likely that both teams will have more than ten points at halftime. They each know how to score and can do a good job of exploiting the other team’s weakness.
Not only do the stats back that up, but the over under for first half points (23.5) does as well. The Eagles could struggle if their NFL-leading run game doesn’t get going early, and the Chiefs might have problems if their creative play calling doesn’t result in big plays. Looking at the rest of this season, however, neither of those seem particularly likely.
