It’s finally here! This Sunday, the State Farm Stadium in Arizona will host Super Bowl LVII. Whether you’re tuning in because you’re a die-hard fan, you love the ad breaks, or you just want to watch Rihanna do her thing during the halftime show, this year is going to be an event to remember.
On Sunday, the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles will go head to head to fight for the coveted Vince Lombardi Trophy. With such a well-matched battle, who will emerge victorious and how can you bet on the match? Read on to find out more.
With two teams as evenly matched as this, it’s not as easy as just comparing the lineups. We’ve seen on many occasions that there’s a surprise and the favourites on paper end up failing. Both teams have a host of players that may just make the difference, like the Chiefs Chris Jones and Philly’s Haason Reddick.
With the Chiefs partnership of Mahomes, Kelce and Reid, this feels a lot like an updated version of the exceptional Patriots lineup of Belichick, Gronkowski and Tom Brady. This gives Kansas City a strong chance to upset the Eagles defence. That being said, it’s not going to be easy against the Eagles’ defence.
Philadelphia have conceded the least passing yards per game this season and also managed the lowest passer rating. They also have the ability to put a huge amount of pressure on quarterbacks. The Eagles' defense has been applying pressure 54% of the time this post-season. On top of that, they also have 78 sacks this year, which is the third-best of all time.
We’re expecting Jalen Hurts to be a nightmare for the Chiefs as he is well-equipped to challenge their defence. Hurts, with his NFL-best 123.4 on throws 25 yards or more has shown impressive performance on deep balls. The challenge for the Chiefs, is even if they can stop Hurts through the air, he can be just as lethal with his legs, especially with a defence that has been one of the season’s weakest against rushing yards by quarterbacks.
The biggest matchup in this game is probably going to be Patrick Mahomes against the Eagles pass-rush. Through 19 games, the Eagles have totaled 78 sacks on the season, which is the third-most in NFL history behind only the Bears 1984 and 1985 performances.
Given that this is going to be a close match, the odds on the overall winner are pretty tight. So this might be a difficult one to call. The latest odds at the time of checking are:
As of Friday, this is how the Moneyline and Spread numbers look:
As expected, Hurts is a strong favourite to take the MVP this year. But with some good odds on some of the other key players, there could be a surprise here and a good chance to win big. Mahomes in at a close second isn’t 100% at the moment with his recent ankle injury, and remembering back a few years, Mahomes tried to play through injury at Super Bowl LV and that didn’t end well. There’s a half-decent chance that going for one of the others for MVP could be a well-placed bet. Here are the five favourites for MVP:
Prop bets can be an easier way to bet on the Super Bowl if you’re not sure who’s going to win. Here are some of the prop bets generating a lot of interest this year:
What if you don’t care too much about the teams or the players. Well, the good news is that there are a number of obscure prop bets that have nothing to do with the action during the game. Here are a few ideas:
Betting on the colour of Gatorade thrown over the coach at the end of the game has become one of the most popular prop bets. This is a pure gamble, but can be quite entertaining.
Chris Stapleton is singing the anthem this year and some people believe that emotions run high when you’re part of something so big and that causes even veterans to rush through, even if only a little.
Is the halftime show performer is going to show up with a sensible black or brown hairdo, or maybe red or blonde dyed hair? Who knows.
