The time has come to finally crown the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world when the two best heavyweights on planet Earth Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk collide in one of the most highly anticipated boxing events of all time. We take a look at this historic event and give out our prediction and pick for this Fury-Usyk matchup.
Tyson Fury (34-0, 24 KO)Β is finally facing off against Oleksandr Usyk to unify the heavyweight world titles and become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. The proclaimed "Gyspy King" has been the face of the heavyweight division for quite some time now. He's had his fair share of ups and downs on a personal level even having him retire while going through his personal battles. However, his resilience inside of the boxing ring helped him overcome his struggles as he made his way back to the boxing rattling off 10-straight wins in dominating fashion as if he never left the sport.
Fury will be taking on by far his stiffest competition at age 35 when he takes on the IBF, IBO, WBA, and WBO title belt holder Oleksandr Usyk. Fury fights like no other heavyweight in professional boxing today. With his massive height (6'9") and reach (85") advantages many would think he would be all power but he has much more than that. Fury moves like a middleweight with the power of a heavyweight and he utilizes both to great avail against his opposition as shown in his trilogy fights with Deontay Wilder and his knockouts of Derek Chisora and Dillian Whyte.
While Fury is skilled in many ways so is counterpart Usyk. Fury has come in with a 38.5 lbs weight advantage over Usyk and he's going to need to use that to his advantage much like he did in his second encounter with Wilder. He's going to need make this a gritty clinch fight in the early going to wear out Usyk to where he can take over down the stretch as Usyk gasses. If Fury can use this game plan mightily he can become the undisputed king in the heavyweight division.
Oleksandr Usyk (21-0, 14 KO)Β will finally get his hands on the outspoken "Gypsy King" Tyson Fury who has been talking a lot of trash leading up to this heavyweight showdown. Usyk isn't known to talk a lot as he lets his hands do the talking inside the boxing ring as he's done so in all 21 of his professional wins.
Usyk has been a staple of the heavyweight division when he made the jump up from cruiserweight to heavyweight back in 2020. From there he has since rattled off four wins in the division where he captured the IBF, IBO, WBA, and WBO titles by defeating Derek Chisora and then Anthony Joshua not once but twice. Usyk then successfully defended his titles for a second time when he obliterated Daniel Dubois knocking him out in round 9.
Now, it's for all the marbles when Usyk takes on the lumbering Tyson Fury as all the belts will be on the line and we will get a new undisputed heavyweight champion for the first time in a very long time. In this matchup, Fury is going to have a ton of size on Usyk as he's not only going to be the taller and longer man but he's also coming in 38.5 lbs heavier as well giving Fury some advantages. However, those advantages do have some drawback if Fury is not able to maintain his cardio over all 12 rounds.
Usyk is a fighter that will be there for all 12 rounds and he's going to need to make Fury work in the early round so that he can take over and drown Fury down the stretch. As long as Usyk can avoid staying out of the clinch with Fury can get past the reach of Fury he can outwork him throughout the fight to a potential late finish or a decision victory.
This fight will go down as a historic heavyweight showdown tonight between Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk. As for this matchup goes, Fury is going to need to replicate the gameplan he had against Deontay Wilder in their second fight where he utilized his massive size advantage to hang on Wilder to slow him down as the fight progresses and with the weight advantage he has over Usyk in this fight it will be smart to fight the same.
As for Usyk, he's going to utilize his speed and precision in this fight and work the body of Fury early to where he can take over down the stretch. Ultimately, Fury is going to look good early on using his reach and movement to keep Usyk at bay but as the fight progresses Usyk will start to trap Fury against the ropes where he will be able to tee off landing heavy shots to where he will slow down the lumbering Fury and take over down the stretch to win the fight on the judge's scorecards and become the undispute heavyweight champion of the world.
