The UFC heads all the way to Perth, Australia for a fight card that the fans have been waiting for since it was announced. We have the middleweight championship up for grabs when Dricus Du Plessis and Israel Adesanya finally settle their differences in this weekend's main event.
However, we have a great fight on the prelims in the featherweight division between Josh Culibao and Ricardo Ramos. Both fighters are looking to get back on track this weekend which should make for a very exciting fight.
These two featherweights are coming to throw down which should make it an absolute barnburner, so let's take a look at the matchup and our Culibao-Ramos prediction and pick.
Josh Culibao (11-3-1) has hit a bit of a rough patch in his UFC career losing each of his last two fights to Dannt Silva and Lerone Murphy both by decision.
Prior to those two losses, Culibao looked like he could be on the verge of getting a ranking next to his name with three straight victories with his biggest win coming against surging prospect Melsik Baghdasaryan.
Culibao's last loss against promotional newcomer Danny Silva was a head-scratcher after he out-landed him 87-45 in the fight while landing the more impactful shots throughout.
Culibao has a very fan-friendly style of fighting that is also looking to come forward and throw caution to the wind looking for the knockout. While he has yet to have a knockout in his UFC career he certainly has the striking to make this a very tough fight for Ramos.
As for this matchup, Ramos has hit a bit of a rough patch like Culibao and he's getting him at the best time right now when his confidence is at an all-time low.
If Culibao can avoid the takedowns and keep this fight on the feet he should be the one to land the more impactful shots throughout the fight and get the nod on the judge's scorecards.
Ricardo Ramos (16-6) has hit a rough patch losing back-to-back fights both by first-round guillotine to Julian Erosa and Charles Jourdain coming into this fight in hostile territory against hometown favorite Josh Culibao.
Ramos has the tools to be a good fighter in the featherweight division, he just needs to put it all together. His striking is crisp especially the spinning backfist that he has landed numerous times in his career. Also, he is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt with some underrated grappling skills which will be the best path to victory in this matchup.
While Ramos can certainly contend with Culibao on the feet he will be better suited to use his striking to set up his takedowns
As long as Ramos can mix it up and not get caught in yet another guillotine he has the grappling to control Culibao or even be the first to submit Culibao to get back on track this weekend.
This should be a great scrap between these two featherweights who are desperately in need of a big win this weekend.
Ultimately, Culibao is gonna be the more aggressive striker looking to bring the fight to Ramos but that will work against him as Ramos will time his takedowns, and from there is where Ramos will shine as he controls Culibao for the majority of the fight landing ground and strikes and getting the nod on the judge's scorecards.
FINAL CULIBAO-RAMOS PICK & PREDICTION: RICARDO RAMOS (+122)
