The UFC is heading back to the Apex for a stacked fight night event. Headlining this fight card is a heavyweight matchup between two top contenders as No. 8 Marcin Tybura and No. 9 Serghei Spivac battle it out in the Octagon.
This should be an exciting scrap between these two heavyweight competitors so let's take a look at this matchup and our Tybura-Spivac prediction and pick.
Marcin Tybura (25-8) was looking like he was going to make a run in the heavyweight division late in his career after back-to-back wins against Alexandr Romanov and Blagoy Ivanov.
Then he met the current interim heavyweight champion Tom Aspinall in the Octagon in his return fight and that didn't end well as he was knocked out in just 1:13. However, he got back on track in a big way by choking out Tai Tuivasa in the first round.
Marcin Tybura has been in the UFC a long time and has amassed a 12-7 record fighting the who's who of the division.
In their first encounter, Tybura utilized his strength and his grappling to his advantage where he was able to land 2 of his 8 takedowns but had over 8 minutes of control during the 15 minutes of action between the two.
When Tybura gets into a fight he normally loves to put his grappling to work each and every time he steps in there. On the feet, Tybura does a good job at maintaining his distance until he is able to get within range to get in the clinch and land his takedowns.
In this matchup, Tybura will need to avoid getting into a barnburner with Spivac on the feet, close the distance, and take this fight to the mat. From there he should be able to dominate on top and control for the vast majority of this fight and get the nod on the judge's scorecards.
Serghei Spivac (16-4) was riding a three-fight winning streak into his second main event spot against Ciryl Gane where he was ultimately knocked out in front of Gane's hometown crowd in France.
Spivac gets his shot of not only getting back on track but also avenging one of his four losses in the UFC when he takes on former foe Marcin Tybura this weekend. This will certainly be a grueling grappling type of fight between two straightforward grapplers.
Each of these two likes to throw heavy strikes into their takedown attempts so we should see some heavy leather being thrown around out of both corners. However, as for the striking goes Spivac will be the faster of the two on the feet and will possess more punching power.
While Spivac loves to take the fight to the mat, it might be best for him to keep the fight standing and look for the knockout. If he can fight a smart fight and not get caught underneath Tybura he can right the ship and avenge his loss to Tybura this weekend at UFC Vegas 95.
This is a great matchup between two of the top-ranked contenders in the heavyweight division. Ultimately, we should expect more of the first between these two where Marcin Tybura will be using a ton of his grappling to stifle any type of offense Spivac throws his way and controls him for the majority of this fight to continue his winning ways this weekend.
FINAL TYBURA-SPIVAC PICK & PREDICTION: MARCIN TYBURA (+134)
