Now that we are officially in the second half the NBA MVP race is really starting to heat up. While there are many players with listed odds for the MVP race there are only a few players who actually have a chance. So, let’s dig into what NBA stars can really win The MVP title in 2024.
It may not seem like it but the 15th overall selection in the 2013 NBA draft has been a force in the league for a decade. He may never be a Steph Curry nailing threes from a ridiculous distance, but his shooting has definitely improved. Giannis is a player who can score 64 points on a single night and it’s no big deal.
Last season he made just 64.5% of his shots from the free throw line but if Antetokounmpo could return to the 77% rate we saw in 2017, his MVP voting stock would receive a huge boost.
Either way, the Antetokounmpo ranks third in points per game, sixth in rebounds per game, and has the Bucks on track for a top seed in the East come playoff time.
He still has a lot of work to do to secure this MVP title and with +1450 odds the books agree. But if he can continue to win and put up big numbers on a nightly basis he could at least improve his chances of winning the MVP race.

We all know what Luka Dončić is capable of. He is the clear leader of the Dallas Mavericks and puts on a show most nights. This season Doncic even had a triple-double in just one half versus the Utah Jazz. Doncic also put up 73 points against the Atlanta Hawks. Performances like those happen all the time for Doncic but he still doesn’t have all the pieces like some of the other players on this list.
Doncic isn’t a great defender but we saw from Jokic’s MVP win that voters aren’t focused on defensive play they want to see offense.
For Luka Doncic to win the MVP title this year he has some serious work to do. He might want to start praying for an injury from one of the MVP race leaders, just kidding. But if Doncic can continue to put up big numbers on a nightly basis his MVP title will come eventually. Maybe not this year but soon.
Last season Shai Gilgeous-Alexander turned the Oklahoma City Thunder into play contenders with his elevated play that put him in the MVP conversation. This season, he has become one of the NBA’s most lethal scoring threats, and the Thunder are one of the best teams in the West because of it. It’s not just SGA’s offense that separates him from most players in the league, his defense is elite.
Gilgeous-Alexander’s a complete player who brings the intensity across the board, and is the NBA leader in steals.
SGA has become a legit MVP candidate. I don’t know if all that will be enough though. His team doesn’t look complete enough to make a deep run and that’s important. SGA however has the second-best odds for MVP and is worth taking a shot on.
Nikola Jokic has spent the follow-up season to last year's MVP award with an epic run of games that look like he was stat stuffing but he wasn’t that’s just how he plays.
He may not be the league’s top scorer, but Jokic is an efficient player who controls the court and who somehow came close to averaging a triple-double last season and is on track to do it again.
Of course, Jokic is a top 2024 NBA MVP candidate. Ranking among the NBA’s leaders in total rebounds. Denver is on track for one of the NBA’s best records, so you can expect Jokic to finish as the frontrunner.
