The Chicago White Sox are one of the worst teams in baseball as they haven't even touched 20 wins yet with their 70th game of the season being played this evening. They are now on a four-game losing streak as they attempt to avoid being swept again this season when they take on the Seattle Mariners on the road on Thursday evening.
The Seattle Mariners have finally found their groove after losing two of three on the road against the Kansas City Royals. They are winners of four straight and are looking for a four-game sweep of the visiting Chicago White Sox tonight. With that said, We take a look at this matchup to make a White Sox-Mariners prediction and pick.
Chicago White Sox (17-52) has the worst record in all of baseball and is sitting in dead last in the AL Central. Their season is all but over at this point but they will not go down without a fight even when they are sometimes outmatched just like they have been in this series against the Seattle Mariners.
The White Sox have now lost four consecutive games with each of the last three coming against the Mariners on the road in Seattle. While they may be losing, they are still keeping the games close as they lost by a combined two runs in their last two games their pitching has kept them in the game giving them the chance to get the win.
He gets to take on a team the Mariners who strike out more than any other team in the Majors this season.
We can expect Crochet to have himself a game but he's going to need some help from his supporting cast to get the job done.
If he can just get the run support he's received in four out of his last 6 starts the White Sox can avoid the sweep and get back into the win column.
Seattle Mariners (40-30) had a bit of a rough patch when they headed to Kansas City to take on the Royals who took two of three from them in their series. They luckily got a 10th-inning victory to close out the series heading back home with some momentum. Now, they are riding a three-game winning streak against the lowly Chicago White Sox as they go for the sweep in tonight's matchup.
The Mariners have been able to do just enough over their three-game stretch against the Chicago White Sox winning closely contested games in their last two matchups. As they look to take game four and sweep the White Sox they will send their ace Luis Castillo to the mound.
He is also coming off a down outing against the Royals who smacked him around as he gave up five runs on six hits and one walk while striking out four in five innings pitched.
Luckily for Castillo, he gets to face off against a familiar foe whom he has a great track record against.
Half of the lineup has struggled mightily against Castillo:
If the Mariners' bats can continue their hot hitting like they have been, averaging 4.8 runs, 7.8 hits, and 1.2 home runs in their last five games, they should give Castillo enough run support to complete this sweep on Thursday night.
The Chicago White Sox are struggling mightily this season and are about to be swept coming in the series finale meanwhile, the Mariners got back on track after losing two in a row to the Royals by winning each of their next four games.
What we should expect is a pitcher's duel with Garrett Crochet and Luis Castillo on the mound against two struggling lineups.
With that said, it look like the Mariners are starting to come around now that they aren't having to face off against the daunting lineup of the Royals. Expect Castillo to shut down this White Sox offense and get just enough run support to extend their winning streak to five games.
FINAL WHITE SOX-MARINERS PICK & PREDICTION: SEATTLE MARINERS (-142)
