For the first time since 2009 a team has an opportunity to win a second consecutive World Series. The Los Angeles Dodgers not only represent that chance: the NL champions are favored to win the 121st World Series.
Sportsbooks list the Dodgers as heavy favorites to defeat the Toronto Blue Jays.

The first game of the 2025 World Series will be played on Friday, October 24, in Toronto.
What is the best strategy for betting on the World Series? Which team will win? Are there good betting odds on Series MVP? Let's look at the series and identify odds, betting possibilities, and make a pick.
Odds in this World Series betting guide are from FanDuel and DraftKings.
Are the Dodgers ruining baseball? Hardly. The team has made remarkable efforts the last decade to be competitive. No tactic the Dodgers have employed are against the rules. Sign a free agent pitcher? Sure. Add a booming bat to the lineup? You bet? Give the modern Babe Ruth a $700 million contract? Of course, Mt. Ohtani.
The Dodgers are loaded, but beatable. I just don't think the Jays can beat them this October. The Dodgers are playing well in every aspect of the game.
LA has too many players who can carry the load, produce big moments, and win games. Count among them Shohei Ohtani, Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts. Teoscar Hernandez, Kike Hernandez, Max Muncy, Will Smith, Blake Snell, Tyler Glasnow, and Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
The Jays are led by the scary bat of Vladimir Guerrero Jr., a second-generation megastar finally getting a chance to shine on the biggest stage of his sport.
But Vladdy Jr. can't do it by himself. Toronto has nice set pieces, decent co-stars, if you will. But, the pitcjhing especially is not deep enough to hold off the barrage of Dodger bats.

I have a series prop pick and one awards prop pick.
There will likely be oodles of money on the Dodgers to win the series quickly. Sportsbooks will see plenty of bettors hopping on a sweep by LA. However, there could be reason to place your money on Toronto to win Game 1.
In the last 25 years, there have been four teams that have waited at least six days between clinching the pennant and playing Game 1 of the World Series. Those teams LOST Game 1 three out of four times. Those teams went on to win two series and lose twice.
It's possible. Of course, it will also be four days for the Jays between their ALCS victory and the first pitch of Game 1 of the Fall Classic.
If I was going to pick one of the Series Double Prop Bets, I'd go with Dodgers Win Game 1/Win Series. The odds are currently +100 from FanDuel and DraftKings.
But if you subscribe to then theory that LA's week layoff will be an advantage for Toronto, hop on the +320 odds for the Jays to win G1. They won't even need to win the series for you to cash that in for $320 on a $100 bet.

Those are the four MVP odds that have my attention. I expect one of those four to be MVP. There's always an opportunity for a pitcher. But of the last 20 World Series MVPs, only three have been pitchers.
Ohtani has a leg up: he can make an impact with his arm and his bat. He will likely start Game 3 or Game 4 in Los Angeles. By that time, the Japanese superstar could already have a few home runs on his ledger.
Smith at +3500. A catcher can really get support if he has a few clutch hits and puts up good offensive numbers.
But, I'll land on Freeman, who won the award in 2024. A winning $100 bet on Freeman would pay $1,600 plus my stake.
The only other player in this series, besides Freeman, to win the Willie Mays World Series MVP Award is George Springer. His odds are currently priced at +1000. I don't like that knee injury he suffered in the AL playoffs. Stay away from George.
