The Jacksonville Jaguars visit the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday afternoon, in a game that could have huge implications in the AFC playoff race. The Jags are enjoying a four game winning run and victory here would cement their place at the top of the AFC South.
Meanwhile, the Steelers are somewhat fortunate to have a 4-2 record, but a statement win here would really enhance their playoff credentials.
After a slow start to the campaign, the Jaguars have put together a solid four game winning run that has put them two games clear in the AFC South. Central to that winning run has been the form of running back Travis Etienne. The young RB has seven rushing touchdowns already this season, and the Jags run game is paving the way for QB Trevor Lawrence to utilise his array of offensive weapons.
The Pittsburgh Steelersβ 4-2 record is largely down to their stellar defence, led by MVP candidate TJ Watts. The linebacker has 8 sacks to his name this season, and is becoming almost impossible for offensive lines to contain.
However, the Steelersβ offence is still searching for an identity. Young QB Kenny Pickett is showing some promise but is yet to convince as a regular NFL starter. Throw in a receiving core that is lacking in depth and it is easy to see why many NFL sports picks and predictions suggest that the Steelers will miss out on the playoffs this season.
The two teams have met 25 times previously, with the Steelers holding a narrow 13-12 lead in the head-to-head. That record includes a big 27-3 success when the teams last met, back in 2020. However, the Jags were victorious on their last trip to Pittsburgh, a 30-9 win in 2017.
The Jacksonville Jaguars are favourites for the game and can be backed at -138 for the win. Meanwhile, the Steelers are available at +125.
Itβs hard to make a case for a Steelers victory here. Yes, they do have a solid defence, but it is hard to see them putting up many points against a stout Jags D. With the precision of Lawrence, the running of Etienne and their explosive talent at WR, we think the Jags will have enough to secure the victory in a low scoring contest.
