On Wednesday night the 16-ranked Xavier Musketeers travel to the 11-ranked Marquette Golden Eagles. This should be an exciting showdown between the Number 1 and Number 2 teams in the Big East conference. With a conference season Championship on the line, this game should have a March Madness feel.
Xavier comes into Wednesday night winning seven of their last ten and averaging an eye-popping 80 points in their last ten games. Xavier has been playing lights-out basketball over the past month. Led by Souley Boum who is averaging 16.1 points and 4.9 assists per game. Xavier has played good basketball all season but has played extremely well against conference opponents this year currently sitting at 11-3 against Big East rivals. Xavier’s Best Chance in this game is to have better-than-average scoring nights out of leading scorers Souley Boum, Zach Fremantle, and Jack Nudge down low.
Xavier has been one of the most well-rounded teams in College Basketball all year with all five of their starters averaging over 10 points per game. Having four other scores on the court is a key reason why Souley Boum leads college basketball in assists with 5 a game.
Xavier and Marquette met exactly one month ago in Cincinnati Ohio where the Musketeers were able to secure an 80-76 victory at home. Since 2009 these two teams have met 23 times with Xavier winning 12 of those games. Since 2020 the two teams have rotated wins depending on who has had home-court advantage

This is an interesting spread to me even though the Golden Eagles are playing at home these two teams have played each other relatively closely over the last couple of seasons with Xavier winning by 4 in their last matchup at home just a month ago. I think this comes down the wire again with it being a one-possession game at the end. If you are one to follow trends, the trends say Marquette will come out with the win at home, but really this is anyone’s ball game. The best bet here is to bet on Xavier to cover the spread.
Both teams are averaging almost 80- points per game and on paper, it certainly looks like this game could be a barn burner. In the last matchups between these two teams, they scored 156 points combined. However, I think defense is going to play a key role in this game and would be supervised if both teams were able to score over 80 points. I think the best bet here would be to look at the scoring history between these two teams and bet the under.
