Arizona Releases Official June Sports Wagering Figures

Bettors in the Grand Canyon State wagered more than $663.93 million in June on sports and events as official monthly figures were announced on Tuesday by the state's Department of Gaming. The number is an approximate 22.3% increase year-over-year compared to June 2025.

June's wagering handle was down slightly (1.9%, $12.8M) month-over-month from May ($676.7M) and ranked as the lowest monthly figure in the state thus far this year.

This continues the seasonal softening after the NBA/NHL playoffs and into the early World Cup period, something that is expected to change considerably when July official figures are released.

Numbers for the first four months of the year were: January ($881.1M); February ($722.6M); March ($836.9M) and April ($737.2M).

June's figure ranks third nationally behind New Jersey's $917M, and New York's $2.25 billion. Ohio ($658.9M) was fourth and Massachusetts ($615M) rounded out the top five.

Since the launch of legal sports betting in the state on Sept. 9, 2021, residents have wagered approx. $36 billion, generating approx. $193.7M million in event wagering privilege fees.

Looking Ahead

Thanks in large part to the World Cup this year, the summer doldrums of sports wagering were tempered as everyone in the state is looking forward to the upcoming NFL (Arizona Cardinals) and college football seasons.

There are 3 NCAA Division I college football programs in the state: Arizona, Arizona State, and Northern Arizona.

Northern Arizona begins their 2026 campaign on Saturday, Aug. 29 as they host Eastern Washington in a Big Sky Conference matchup (4 p.m. EST). One week later, Arizona State hosts Morgan State at 9 p.m. EST and Arizona will host the aforementioned and in-state opponent Northern Arizona at 8:30 p.m. EST, both on Saturday, Sept. 5.
