The expanding effort to protect consumers from online gaming products received a boost today when the Responsible Online Gaming Association announced a partnership with BetBlocker.
The two organizations will provide software to block betting apps and sites for all Americans seeking such a service.

The Responsible Online Gaming Association (ROGA) is a not-for-profit group that consists of large gaming operators cooperating on responsible gaming initiatives. The members are Bally's Corporation, BetMGM, bet365, DraftKings, Fanatics Betting and Gaming, FanDuel, Hard Rock Bet, and PENN Entertainment.
ROGA members make up roughly 90% of the total handle in the United States from legal online betting.
The software effectively blocks nearly any type of legal or unregulated betting platform from use. It's available for both iPhone and Android devices.
“The single most effective way for BetBlocker to reach the audience that stand to benefit from our tool is via partnerships with the industry,” said Duncan Garvie, the founder of BetBlocker. “ROGA represents a coordinated by the U.S. industry to improve responsible gaming standards throughout the sector.
Having their backing for the BetBlocker project is a significant step forward for our organisation and will ensure that people who want support to structure where and when they can play online will be able to do so anonymously and for free.”
The software is free of charge. It's unclear how the eight betting companies will make this service evident to its millions of customers in the United States.
Most states require sports betting and other betting operators to provide messaging on responsible gaming and access to hotlines for gambling addiction. Betting platforms, online and real-world casinos, are also required to have methods of self-exclusion for consumers.
So far, no states have expressly required gaming operators to offer blocking software.
The Executive Director of ROGA chimed in with enthusiasm over the collaboration.
“Making resources like BetBlocker more visible and accessible is one way we put that mission into action. We’re equipping individuals with practical tools that support their decisions and well-being,” Dr. Jennifer Shatley said in statement from the ROGA.
