
It was a record-breaking month for the Bay State as the Massachusetts Gaming Commission (MGC) released official October sports wagering and casino revenue figures on Thursday.
A whopping $892.2 million ($879.57 million online) was generated in sports betting handle, an increase of more than $92 million, from September's then-record of $800.3 million. It also was a 19.3% increase from Oct. 2024.
The state collected more than $14.2 million on more than $71.3 million in taxable gaming revenue (8.24% hold).
With the record-breaking figure, Massachusetts joined a vibrant list of 14 other states who have achieved all-time handle highs this month (23 states have reported official figures thus far for October).
Out of the top 10 states who have reported October figures, Massachusetts ranks fourth, behind third-place Pennsylvania ($968.5) and in front of fifth place North Carolina ($811.4 million).
To date, the Commonwealth has collected approx. $353.38 million in total taxes since sports wagering began in person on Jan. 31, 2023, and online on March 10, 2023.

Massachusetts October Gaming Figures
Boston-based DraftKings generated more than $447.44 million in monthly handle to top all seven legal online platforms, besting second-place FanDuel ($237.25 million) by more than $210.19 million.
It was the second straight month DraftKings handled more than $400 million and was a 16.7% increase from Oct. 2024.
Fanatics Sportsbook posted its second straight $80 million-plus month in handle, coming in at $82.4 million to round out the top three, after $83.1 million in September. To date, they have recorded more than $500 million in year-to-date handle and over $900 million since their May 2023 launch.
The rebirth of the New England Patriots under new head coach Mike Vrabel has done wonders for sports bettors and sportsbooks the first two months of the regular season.
Under quarterback Drake Maye, the AFC East Division leaders went 4-0 in the month of October and currently is the top seed in the AFC with a 9-2 record as they will visit the Cincinnati Bengals (3-7) at 1 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 23.
The Boston Red Sox short stint in the MLB Playoffs and the start of regular seasons for both the Boston Celtics and the Boston Bruins helped the state with their record-setting month.
