
The state of Virginia saw a dip in sports betting handle as the Virginia Lottery released their official April sports wagering figures on Monday.
At three casinos and 12 mobile operators, Virginians wagered more than $613.89 million, a $59 million dollar decrease (8.8%) from March (more than $672.82 million). It was also the second lowest handle month of the year thus far and is the ninth highest total since January 2025.
March numbers showed an increase with heavy volume due to both the men's and women's college basketball tournaments.

For April, bettors won more than $544.22 million total (11.35% win).
The Old Dominion state collected $9.69 million in taxes (15% of $64.6 million Adjusted Gross Revenue (AGR)).
The state implements a 15% tax on each operator’s AGR. Of this, 97.5% goes to the state’s General Fund, while 2.5% goes to the Problem Gambling Treatment and Support Fund.
April's tax number was a minor $684,305 uptick from March ($9 million, from 10 operators).
Sports betting revenue in the state increased to more than $64.6 million, marking a 15.1% increase from March.
Since January 2021, the state has handled more than $30.707 billion in sports betting, with more than $2.600 in revenue (8.47% total hold). More than $391.91 million in state taxes has been collected.
