Here’s what I know about the MegaBonanza weekly bonus event

It’s called the MegaBonanza Winner’s Weekly event, taking place once a week on a Friday. It starts at midnight Pacific Time, so bear that in mind if you’re in a different time zone, so you can adjust your times to maximize your play. It concludes at 11.59pm PT on the same day.

🎮 How to take part

The idea is to play one or more of the highlighted slots on the MegaBonanza website. When I visited to check out the latest details for the event, I found eight slots I could choose from. They included Power Sun and Hawaii Riches, both from 3 Oaks Gaming (as were the other titles I could play).

I’d suggest checking the official MegaBonanza website to see whether those titles change each week, just to make sure you’re playing participating titles. I soon realized I could select any title - even before logging in - to find out three things:

Minimum GC per play
Maximum GC per play
Volatility level (low, medium or high)

📊 How to work out your points

You don’t get points just for playing these casino-style games. Instead, you’ll need to play using Gold Coins and win on a spin to collect points. One win puts you in the running for the Winner’s Weekly event.

All you need to do is to divide the amount you win in Gold Coins with the amount of GCs you played on that spin. When I tried this for the first time, I played Power Sun for 75 GCs per spin. I managed to get 750 GCs on one spin, so here’s the calculation:

750 GC winnings divided by 75 GCs to play = 10 points

🎯 How to approach play

That calculation means that if you play with more Gold Coins, you’ll receive more GC winnings if you get a matching combo landing on the reels of the slot you’re playing. It also means you’ll blow through your Gold Coin stash faster though, since you’re likely to get plenty of spins with no successes.

I went for low GC plays per go, which gave me more spins and therefore more chances to find a successful combination of symbols on the reels. You might decide to take a different tack, but it does at least allow players to decide how to approach the event.

What could you win in this MegaBonanza event?

Since it’s based on GC gameplay, you might guess you can try and win the same Gold Coins in return. You need to rank among the top 180 players to do this. Here’s how the prizes are allocated at the end of the event.

So, you can’t get any MegaBonanza free spins, but since winners receive Gold Coins, you’d use those to get spins on casual free-to-play slots instead. Just remember that even if you landed in first place, you couldn’t redeem those GC winnings for any actual prizes. They’re great to let you play a wider range of slots though.

My take on the weekly 24-hour play format

Remember you’ve got 24 hours to play participating slots - and it’s based on Gold Coin winnings rather than participation. I’m not sure whether I prefer that or not, but it does mean you might stand a more equal chance to players who have lots of GCs to play with, I guess.

According to the small print, you’ll be able to check the leaderboard positions throughout the event and see the winning names at the end. Note that if two players finish in the same position, the prize goes to the first person who achieved that spot. I thought it would be split between them, but that’s not the case.

How do you claim your prize if you land in one of those winning positions?

You’ll receive the relevant prize directly into your Gold Coin balance. I didn’t find confirmation on timing, but the T&Cs say ‘promptly’ so I’m guessing it’ll be very soon after the event concludes.

Yes, but there’s a caveat here. When I signed up to check out this sweepstakes casino, I became an Iron member of their VIP program. I found six available levels to reach:

Iron
Bronze
Silver

How it works

You play to collect points and those points get you closer to the next level. That’s pretty standard, and it’s where I found details of the Weekly Wheel, too. Here’s the caveat I mentioned earlier - you can’t spin the Weekly Wheel as an Iron member. Instead, you need to progress to Bronze or higher to get a spin on that wheel. I had to get 150 points from playing the casino-style games to reach Silver, so it didn’t take that long.

What can you get from the Weekly Wheel in the VIP program?

Assuming you qualify for it, you’ll see various segments with a chance to scoop some Sweeps Coins. The maximum SCs available on the wheel increase as you reach higher VIP levels.

So, for example, the Silver wheel gives you a chance to get up to 10 SCs. If you reach the Platinum wheel, that gives you up to 100 SCs. It looks like Diamond is via invite only, which cranks up the potential to 250 SCs.
