Get ready to hit the tables with my complete guide to Spades Cash at Skillz. Offering completely free play, but also the chance to redeem real money rewards, Spades Cash is one of the most popular Skillz games.
In my overview of the game, I’ll share rules, gameplay, and tell you how you can get started at Skillz. I’ll also throw in some tactics I picked up during my time playing. Spades at the ready? Let’s dig right in.
Getting started with playing Spades Cash is as easy as cutting a deck of cards, and the whole process from download to deal shouldn’t take more than a minute.
Spades Cash is a game played with four players. The aim of the game is to correctly predict how many winning tricks you can score with your hand, with the most points up for grabs the more accurate your prediction is.
The gameplay of Spades Cash is straightforward and, even if you’re totally new to the game, it won’t take you long to pick it up. I opted for a four-player game, so this is how it works:
When the game starts, you’ll make a ‘bid’ of how many tricks you think you’ll win in that round. You can pick between 0 and 13 and I found it was best to stick to a more conservative prediction here. The game will make a recommendation of how many tricks they think you can win to help you.
Top tip: If you bid 0 and then do make a trick, you’ll lose 75 points, plus you won’t score any points for the tricks you make. Bidding one or two tricks, whilst you’re learning the ropes, is a good basic option.
While playing, any tricks you make that go over your initial bid get you a ‘bag’. If you go over the limit of allowed bags by the end of the game, you’ll have 25 points deducted from your score. But, if one of your opponents gets a bag, they’ll lose points and you’ll get 100 extra marks added to your total.
If you fail to reach your number of bids, you’ll get a point penalty of 10x your prediction. You’ll score 100 points for every trick you complete.
You can score extra points during Skillz Spades games thanks to the special bonus features.
Bonus type | Reward |
---|---|
Time bonus | If you finish your match quickly you can get yourself a time bonus. Completing the game one second before the timer runs out gets you 5 match points so I was able to clock up quite a nice score by speeding up my gaming. |
Rank bonus | Coming in first, second, or third in the game gives you an individual point bonus:

Point bonus | If you were correct with your bid, you’ll get a Point bonus when the game is over. |
Spades Cash gives you the choice of a solo or a multiplayer game. A solo game pits you against one other player. You’ll both get the same deal but play separately against AI competitors.
Once you’ve built up your confidence you can go head-to-head in a multiplayer game against 4, 8, 16, 32, or even more players.
One of Skillz’s strengths is that you’ll only be matched against players of a similar level. So this should result in a competitive game that still gives you a good chance of winning and lets you build up your skills progressively.
Like all of the Skillz esports games, you can play Spades Cash completely free if you’d like. Players resident in the states listed below can only play Skillz Spade Cash in the free mode using Z Coins and Ticketz:
Players in other areas will be able to use real money to fund their play. You can make a deposit using PayPal, credit cards, or Apple Pay. Before you deposit, have a quick look for any deposit deals, such as the recent Skillz $100 promo.
Top tip: I found that the entry prices for games can be a bit confusing, particularly for first timers. Let’s say you enter a competition with an entry fee of $0.60 and a prize of $1. If you win, your actual prize will be $1 minus the entry fee, so $0.40. Keep a look out for Spades Cash Skillz promo codes giving free entry to games too (they’re often released on Facebook)
If you’ve taken Spades Cash for a spin and you’ve got a hankering for some more Skillz games, then these ones might be right up your street. Have a look at our full Skillz review for more inspiration too.
Mixing up elements of poker and solitaire, this fast paced game is played with the whole deck of cards. Like the occasional promo code for Skillz spades, you might find free entry codes for 5 Card Frenzy are released randomly by Skillz on their social media.
This gin rummy style game lets you pit your wits against an opponent to try and build the best hand. This version is ideal for those who have never played gin rummy before, as well as experts looking for some decent competition.
The classic game is given a modern makeover. This version of the card game solitaire is very easy to learn and has simple rules that mean you can be playing in no time. Like me, you might have played a lot of freecell on your first family PC in the mid-90s and, if you did, then you’ll find this game is a nostalgic treat. As with Skillz Solitaire Cube, it’s also one of the most popular games.
Last but not least is the sequel to Spades Cash. This version has a pretty similar look to the original but a more interactive gameplay and enhanced graphics.
Spades Cash is spades of fun to play and, if you’re playing in an area where real money gaming is allowed, can help you to dig up real money prizes. Z Coins fund free and practice play, and Ticketz can be redeemed for real world prizes, including gift cards and cash. Before you sign up, have a quick check in with Ballislife.com to make sure you’re not missing out on a Skillz spades cash promo code which could give you free entry to a game.
It’s easy to get started with Spades Cash too, and the app works seamlessly on any iOS or Android device. The tutorials and practice rounds mean that anyone can master this game in no time, which sets you up perfectly to move onto the Pro games against other players.
Yes! The game provides a full tutorial and you can play as many practice games as you like using Z Coins. You can also get lots of hints and tips from the player chat to help you to build up your skills.
Spades Cash isn’t available across the whole of the US due to individual state legislation. But players in Louisiana, South Dakota, and other states where real money prize redemptions aren’t available, can still enjoy the game for free.
The aim of the game in Spades Cash is to predict how many tricks, or winning cards, you can score from your hand. You’ll score the highest points for making an accurate prediction, but you can also pick up bonus points for beating the clock and for not coming in last.
As soon as you join Skillz and download the Spades Cash app, you’ll discover a range of bonuses. A 2 hourly bonus gives you free Z Coins throughout the day like clockwork, and you can gain more Ticketz and Z Coins through the twice daily reload. There is no Skillz promo code required to claim these; simply go to the app and they’ll be waiting for you.
